Sounds like the College of Charleston boys did well at the USL combine, Lundy set up Ferguson goal on the first day. Lundy was mentioned on a couple of USLPro tweets for some good crosses and a couple close shots. De Silva scored two over the weekend as well.
Both Cuevas and Ellison where released by Seattle today. Will look to see if they hook up another MLS team or come back to Charleston. also sounds like Kevin Klasila and Taylor Mueller are both currently on the long road trip cross country from the West Coast to Charleston.
I might be reading into the press release the Battery put out a few days ago about four Battery players on trial. they listed Richter, Paterson, Cuevas, and Ellison. put it didn't mention Keeper Alex Kann who is up in Chicago. So I wonder if they have options for those four but not Kann. I know the Battery have always released players that can move up to MLS so I imagine that if they don't move up, the Battery may have first right of refusal so to speak.
Ralphie is a great technical player, but not fast or defensive minded. DeSilva's downfall will be, that he is foreign
I imagine De Silva will have a bit of interest from around the league as he did well at the combine. and Mr. O is right about his foreign status possibly hurting him.
Sounds like De Silva was on the roster for San Jose yesterday during their preseason friendly against Houston Dynamo and had a good match.
Hope to see a press release soon! several other players arrived yesterday. From what I am hearing their is a good number of players returning from last year (well a good number by USL standards) cant wait to see it all come together!
following up to my last post, not sure if it mean any thing but the roster page on the USL website was recently updated below are the names Cuevas, Jose 5' 8" 150 6/12/1989 Fresno Feugo Ellison, Kenneth 6' 4" 190 10/22/1989 Fresno Feugo Falvey, Colin 6' 1" 185 6/20/1985 Charleston Battery Mueller, Taylor 6' 2" 180 9/20/1988 University of Washington Paterson, Nicholas 5' 11" 165 1/19/1985 Charleston Battery Richter, Ryan 6' 2" 180 4/12/1989 Philadelphia Union Sanyang, Amadou 6' 0" 165 8/1/1991 Seattle Wiltse, Mark 6' 0" 160 5/29/1988 University of South Carolina I have heard a few more names from last year are in town but I'm pretty happy with the names on that list if its accurate. of course, we all wish Paterson and Richter the best of luck on their trials with MLS teams.
yeah unless MLS wants him, I dont see the Battery stopping him from moving to Red Bulls if they offer him a contract. In fact likely something in his contract that releases him. All that said, its good to know he'll be back if it doesn't work out for him.
I imagine a few more will be added over the next couple weeks . De Silva is still on trial with San Jose .
Mikey, what are the surprises on the 12 man list so far? And other than patterson and Cuevas, who do you feel could have a big year for us?
I think both Azira and Sanyang will have big years. Sanyang was solid all last year and Azira really started improving toward the end of last season (it was his goal that won the Championship game) Trials are this weekend and I plan on poking around there to see if anyone interesting is floating through...
We waiting for some papers from immigration so the time can officially sign Cooper, Chang o Cordovés. We expecting that they finish all the paper work in one or two weeks, even that they have to wait for the international transfer from Cuba, a formality (Cuba never answer to the US Federation) that going to take 1 month, before them can play with the team on the next season. For what I know coach planning use them on the Challenging Cup, because them don't need any contract or international permission to play on the Cup.
This article says it's a 3 year extension. http://charlestonbattery.com/news/c...s-extension-with-midfielder-nicki-paterson-2/ I've been keeping up with the Nickster up in Yankeeland and they had a scrimmage against Swedish side Malmo yesterday. Of course, the Bulls played a ton of players but he wasn't one of them. http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/teams/redbulls2.php?article_id=32810 They're also heading out to Tuscon for the preseason tourney there so I wonder if him not playing is a sign he won't be traveling to Arizona and his trial is over. Makes sense that the club won't spend travel money on a player they don't think they're going to sign. As for DeSilva in San Jose, his trial seems to be getting mixed results. After they beat the Crew in their 1st preseason match, he got some good comments. But then they lost to the Rapids and the midfielder trialists were all deemed "poor" except for a few dead ball kicks from DeSilva. Said they were too slow. Of course, take all this with a very large grain of salt since the coments were from fans and not coaches. But to be fair, fans are used to watching their club and what the level of play is and how their team normally performs. At the end of the day, there are so many players trying to grab a very limited number of spots, you really do have to stand out to be noticed.
