The word on the street is that Javier Morales (fmrly from Lanus) had a hand in convincing Diego to join MLS. In addition, Javier Morales told media yesterday that he turned down an offer from Espanyol for more money to stay with Real Salt Lake.
Well, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the best player and winning the league all by himself, kinda like Guillermo Barros Schelotto did a few years ago. If he really gets involved and gets his mind into it, he's more than capable. And 10 years younger than GBS was.

I don't think it will be very hard for Valeri to fit in. I mean, look at Federico Higuain. He flopped fat every club he was at- River, Independiente, Godoy Cruz, Colon- and he went to Columbus at immediately became the figura. Guillermo was done at Boca and completely dominated MLS. When he went back to Gimnasia, we went to the B. I see Valerie becoming one of the best players in the league really quickly
Guille and Federico Higuain have had a lot of success in MLS. Even Mario Gori was very popular in the early days of MLS. Matias Donnet was less succesful.
The thing you need to know, is that this time you're not getting an old player at the end of his carreer, or a mediocre player who sees more money and prefers to be a comfy starter in MLS than to struggle for a place here, or a leftover that nobody wants, or something like that. This guy, Valeri, has real talent. Enough to be playing in Europe. The reason he wasn't playing so much lately was because he had trouble re-signing a contract with Lanus (him being the best payed), and yes, he might've been playing at a not so great level in the final matches, but anybody can have an offseason and you still don't forget how to play football. He's still got what it takes and is only 26. But to unfold it he needs to take the league seriously, like GBS did and I think Higuain is doing, according to what you're saying. Valeri has more skill than both of them, easily, but also not as much competitive spirit (like GBS got in busloads), that's what I mean by saying he's got to take MLS seriously.
Marcelo Gallardo was another one who didn't have much success, though it was mainly because he was injured and he really just went there to get paid. I'd like to see more clubs go to the MLS to do preseason. I remember when River played in Canada a few years ago against Toronto and Everton (golazo de Ortega) I'd love to see a River-Boca in Miami again one day
Yup. If Valeri plays hard, the Timbers Army will adore him. He'll probably like the log slices that he'll get for successful play.
Gallardo scored a couple golazos for DC. He just wasn't on the same page as his teammates. When was River-Boca in Miami?

It was at the Orange Bowl. I didn't go, but I know people who did. They said it was a great time out. Last year Almeyda was saying he wanted to play the Super in Miami, but I don't think there was much serious discussion, it just seemed like his personal preference.
