Whatever name they were going to make, it was always going to have those who like it and those who hate it. It's impossible to please everyone. Having said that, Im very surprised at the selection myself. I dont hate nor like it at this stage...im just not used to it. Sounds better KCL rather than KLC though. EDIT: I guess the term "Classic" comes in because 2013 marks the 30th (or is it 31st?) year of Korean domestic football.
The schedule for both Classic and K-league are yet to be made. It will be made sometime later this month. The K-league (2nd division) thread should be made when the schedule comes out fully.
im actually digging the new logo and it is their 30th year in existence. i remember that they changed the name of K2-League to N-League since they didn't want it to sound like an inferior league (although everyone knows how much of a gap there truly is between K-League and N-League). nevertheless im really excited for this season and Korea's 1st ever promotion and relegation season. Forza Suwon!
I thought the name was a joke at first although I think it's growing on me. I'd prefer they (the media) simply call it the Classic League as the short hand.
Anybody know what the final # of teams will be? I think 14 teams for the top flight is a bit too much. I think 12 is a perfect number.
This is what will happen... The split system (at the end of round 26) will be in force - this is where teams ranked 1-7 will be in Group A & are in the safe zone. Teams ranked 8-14 will be in Group B and will HAVE to fight in the relegation battle. By the end (the Split league goes for 12 rounds)...the 13th and 14th ranked K-league Classic teams will be automatically be relegated to K-league. But there is also an addition this season. The 12th ranked team will play in a play-off with 1st ranked K-league club. The similar play-off we see in European leagues ya know. By 2014, the K-league Classic will start with 12 teams (should everything go accordingly..which hopefully should....hopefully).
And to add, 2014 season for K-League (2nd tier) will feature 12 clubs. 2 clubs from K Classic relegated and 2 more additions on top of that (whether it be a N-League club joining or a new found club).
March 2nd is the date of K-league Classic match-day 1. 26 rounds are played before the teams are split into Group A and B depending on their ranks. November 30th is when the season ends, and the playoffs (home-and-away ties) between K-league winner vs K-league Classic 12th placed team are played afterwards. Also, an All-star match is expected to be held somewhere in June.
