http://www.riverhounds.com/cgi-bin/dist/news.cgi?id=1207953580 Justin Evans, who spent time with Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes, Chicago Fire and Dallas Burn has been signed to play for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds for the 2008 season. Evans, a native of Peters Township and a standout at Penn State University was actually the first player ever signed by Pittsburgh's pro soccer franchise in 1999, the team's inaugural year. After his first stint in Pittsburgh, Evans played in Poland's First Division. He jumped between MLS, Europe, and the USL's former A-League (now the USL First Division) spending time with the Riverhounds and the Charleston Battery. Evans also played indoor soccer for Cleveland, and most recently, Kansas City.
Justin Evans, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds stellar midfielder, has been named to the United Soccer Leagues Second Division 2009 All-League Team. It is the second consecutive season that Evans, a native of Venetia and a graduate of Peters Township High School has been so recognized. Not only did Evans enjoy another great year on the pitch, he also helped Gene Klein coach the side in his first season as an assistant. Justin was the first player ever signed during the Hounds’ inaugural year (1999). This season, he was joined by Tenywa "T-Bone" Bonseu as the only original Riverhounds on the current roster.
Checking back with former Battery star and '03 champion, Linval "Rudi" Dixon http://charlestonbattery.com/news.asp?id=474
was never really a Battery player, other than preseason, but that's how they have him listed, he is a Charleston native. Lawrence Smith started up top for VPS and went the full 90 minutes as the team from Vaasa wrapped up the season with a boring tie against their visitors from Åland on Saturday afternoon. The teams were level throughout the game, both finishing with four shots on goal, though the home team had a slight edge in corners: 7 to 5. The hosts had a late chance to win it but Jyrki Saranpaa shot wide in the 90th minute, missing a chance to score against the team his father coaches. Smith, the former Charleston Battery striker, finished the season with three goals and one assist in 22 contests.
For those of you who still remember him, I saw Lazo Alavanja tonight playing indoor in Chicago. Still has that rocket shot.
Louie Rolko came to the Riverhounds invitational combine in February and impressed the coaching staff with his ability to perform in various positions on the field which landed him a place on the squad. Rolko played two years for the Charleston Battery and has the desire to get back in the game. We look for good things from Louie. http://www.riverhounds.com/home/411505.html
He didnt see much time on the field here but here is a pretty good interview with Steve Clark, http://90soccer.com/wordpress/?p=1581
Dont think any of the current crop are working there. not sure if many of the former ones do either. quite a few are still in the area, many play on local teams and several in the Battery Over 35 and Over 40 league
I know Jeff Terry is still there and I think Jon Kelly still has some relationship with them. In the over 35 league on any given night there could be Clark Brisson, Paul Conway, Vince Jajuga, David Hoffman, Mike Anhaeuser, Patrick Olelare, Mark Lloyd, Jeff Terry, Thomas Moore, Jamie Posnanski, Craig McCully and Chris Albrecht did play, but I think he moved away.

I always thought the Beast would work well last year. We really didn't have anyone doing the dirty work up top after Bundu left like Tommy did. Him playing with his back to goal with the likes of paterson, Cuevas, donatelli, and coming from midfield would have been deadly.
add Kyle Hoffer to the list of former Battery players. http://vsi-fc.com/index.php?option=...first-signing-in-franchise-history&Itemid=849 I thought he had a good season and kind or surprised by this announcement. good luck Kyle
It's crazy. As a Rays fan, I know about all the struggles the area is going through. One of the teams is going to fold most likely.
