I think a few things are certain now (if they weren't before).

    1. Defense really needs to be taken seriously and emphasized as much as everything else. Pick a consistent backline and stick with it and use the players in their natural positions for heaven's sake.

    2. Kroos is a great squad option but not a viable starter in the current formation.

    3. Löw needs to branch out a bit tactically and experiment to avoid dependency/reliance on Klose. Basically be more open to deviating from the norm given all the versatile and diverse players he has available.

For me, Kroos and Gotze have no real place in the current squad. Moreso Kroos, at least gotze can play out wide.

If we can do muller up front with reus and gotze on the wings and Ozil right behind all 3 of them. We could be very effective and not rely on Klose..

Still feel bad about kroos.. But unless there's its a 3-5-2 formation or he's used to sub someone off at 60th..

Mueller just isn't a CF, I wish he was, he'd solve a lot of our problems. But he isn't he's best playing besides the striker.

However, what is supposed to happen - is that there be a flexible, interchangeable system. Players have fixed positions yes, but there is a degree of flexibility. This is hopeless if we have Podolski and Gomez in the lineup because they're 1 dimensional.

Kroos is just like Fabregas in the Euro 2008 and WC2010, relegated to the bench because he isn't good enough yet. He can always be a starter, but it'll take time because his development is pretty slow compared to the others. He's mad talented, and this season looks to be his superstar year.

But he'll always compete with Ozil with our formation.,..

Kroos is of course good enough and he has been since 2010 (there is a reason why he started in so many NT games). I don't know how one can describe his development as slow. The guy played a very good season in last years CL and pretty much won the direct playmaker duel against Özil.
The problem in his case is to find a position for him and that's the similarity to Fabregas.

Kroos has been amazing in the last 2yrs and has developed quite well, The only problem is that the NT playing the current formation doesnt have a role for him.

He combines a bit of Schweinsteiger and Ozil, He can play as a sub for both but he wont be first choice if everyone is fit

I think you're overlooking some key issues here. First of all, Kroos did not win the duel with Ozil because Mourinho shifted the focus of the midfielders towards the flanks to neutralize Robben and Ribery. Secondly Kroos was a CM at the time filling in for schweini.

Don't get me wrong, he had a fantastic season and many clubs like United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool would kill for a player like that, but as a #10, Ozil is simply a genius and his development has been phenomenal.

The only way Kroos could ever start is if he continues to score the way he is now. Hes already scored 6 goals in 16 appearances, despite the incredible amount of competition in bayerns midfield. He is much better at finding empty pockets of space than Ozil, and his finishing is simply unparalleled at this point. However, he isn't the greatest playmaker - and thats what the NT needs.

If Kroos can rack up 20 or so goals in midfield, there's no reason why he should not start.

We played a 3 man midfield in both matches. Schweini, Gustavo and Kroos all started. Kroos was playing in the number 10 position.

I don't really think the NT needs a player like Oezil as much as you say. We have tons of creativity coming from Reus, Goetze, Mueller, Klose, Schweini, etc. If Loew wants to play a possession oriented game I think Kroos is more suited to our midfield trio than Oezil.

    I don't think so.

Oezil's movement is unparalleled by anyone in the team, including Reus and Goetze. He moves seemlessly through center and comfortably out wide. It is the creative glue to the team.

Kross is not even close to being this kind of player. He doesn't create chances with his movement and he'd rather drive up the field and shoot or rely on the movement of others. We would look different with him in the role.

For me Oezil is the ONLY player we can't afford to lose at this point.

Exactly. And Schweinsteiger offers a more complete game whereas Oezil's vision and passing is on a different level. Which makes both of them better at their respective roles than Kroos.

What about a striker-less formation? This is from my latest blog post (http://tollkuci.com/blog/post/Nationalmannschaft-multitude-of-choices-)

Bayern just beat Arsenal in the first match for the round of 16 in Champions League 3-1 and virtually sealed their place into the last eight. Schweini controlled the game, Kroos was everywhere and scored a great volley while Muller as usual the hard working, untraceable be-in-the-right-place-in-the-right-time striker. At the same time in Dortmund Reus and Gotze are in fire with the former scoring a hat-trick in the last Bundesliga game. On top of that add Ozil and it seems there are so many players and so few places in Nationalmaschaft. So how should Low pick the right players...well my suggestion is to play of all them :) Sometimes to win it all you have to make risky choices and it's time for Low to show he has the balls to do it. With time passing there's a growing opinion that Low is under-performing with all the talent he has. He has been very conservative and it has showed in the decisive matches (last example being the semi-final against Italy in Euro 2012). There are quite a few arguments to support the above selection:
    1. Germany doesn't have a World Class striker. Low keeps playing Gomez and every single time it doesn't work. He makes the changes and the team is much better (Italy Euro 2012 anyone?)
    2. The above players are actually the best individuals available to Low. He has to integrate them and create the best team.
    3. A wining team should be "copy" the latest trend, but create it. Now the trend is to play two double-six players. Why not challenge it?
So how can the above players be fielded into the same team? My preferred formation would be:

    -----------------------------Schweini-------------------------------
    ---------------------Gotze---------------Kroos----------------------
    -----Muller--------------------Ozil-----------------------Reus------

Let's see if Low will read this and take note ;)

I like that formation but don't expect it from Low. I do not have any hopes with this kind of coach for WM 2014. Hopefully we reach the QF's so we maintain the perfect record in reaching QF's in every WM participation to date. If we do something extraordinary, it will be down to the talented players we have and not the coach.

    I always thought of having

    Khedira kroos piggy
    Muller Ozil reus

Gotze in any of the front 3 as needed. 4-3-3 formation.

Khedira and piggy would bring that defensive discipline will need in the middle.
The rest can press and create magic upfront with each other ;)
