Anita got Raiola at a certain moment. It was a deliberate move, but I do not know anymore what came first. Newcastle offer -> Ajax refusing -> Raoila time, or that Raiola the Rat got him to the club, like he has been able to get Assaidi to Liverpool.

This is how I remember it. Newcastle came along with a joke of an offer, Anita shit himself with excitement, Ajax turned down Newcastle's shit offer, Anita insisted on moving and hired the rat to make sure it happened.
It's shocking how opposite him and Vertonghen were. Vertonghen had a year left and would have been happy to play it out here but also had no problem letting Ajax make good money off him. Anita on the other hand had two years left but decided that he needed something better and couldn't care less what Ajax got out of it.

Raoila was a marginal player. Anita said he wanted to move; Ajax didn't want an unhappy player. Really that simple. Raoila just makes deals happen.

Watching VI and Hans Kraaij is talking about the position games the Dutch NT is playing during the week. He says there are 3 guys who are head and shoulders above the rest and those are RVP, VDV and another one (I guess Sneijder, missed it for a sec). Then there is a pair who come close to them and those are Nigel de Jong and .... Clasie. When he said that, 2 pair of cow eyes were staring him. Gijp and Derksen who marginalized him over and over again, focused on his length rather then his ability to speed up the game.

I thought he said that there are only 3 certain positions it seems in Van Gaals squad, Robben-Sneijder-BMI.
Then he went on to say that for the rest of the positions you have atleast 2 players fighting for a spot, NdeJong/clasie,Huntelaar/RvP etc etc.
But then again i was drinking beer and could have remembered wrong.

Buttner in the starting lineup for ManU in CL action. Had a slip in the penalty box and then looked astounded when the match official didn't give him a penalty kick. Too funny!

Yes he also mentioned this story.

    Link

from 44:30 on he starts to tell the story I highlighted in regard to Clasie. The other player in the group of 3 was Afellay by the way.

He's also been very poor on offense; just skied a cross way out of play. Daley Blind is a better left back!

Yeah saw it. What is he supposed to do in 3 or 4 minutes? I hope Benfica finish last in the group and that Jesus guy gets fired. Even before Ola got there I could not stand the Jesus, it has not improved since then.

I don't follow Benfica at all, but IMO the only point of a 90th minute sub is when you're winning to waste time or to give the fans a chance to show their appreciation for a player who played really well.
When your losing though, there's absolutely no point. Any player who could make a difference and get a goal should be brought in way earlier, so it's not meant to change the course of the game, and it can't be used to test a player because 2 minutes isn't nearly enough to judge them.

That being said, I'm glad that John has finally gotten onto the field. Lets hope this is the beginning of many minutes, and not an Elia @ Juventus style one off appearance

The only thing that leaves me hoping is that Benfica is a true dealers club. All clubs are, but especially these big Portuguese clubs. Ola was one of their most expensive transfers and losing their investment money, goes against their financial instinct. Basically his high transfer price is protecting him from idiotic treatment. That having said, I picked up the other day here or on another forum, how Ola is not a buy of this Jesus guy (Benfica coach) and how he in another case also brushed aside a buy from the board who went their own way with a player purchase.

Ola once did not track back and since then he is sitting in the stance. Now he is maybe brought back. If tracking back is a big thing for Jesus and he is installing that in Ola's game with good intention, then maybe it is better to wait out the end result of his development. In the long run that could also benefit Dutch NT, getting a more complete player back.

This could also be his curse. Even if Jesus doesn't play him all season because he doesn't like him, it's unlikely that they would sell him for any less than what they paid, and it's unlikely that they would get that for a player that never played. Basically his only hope is to get into the coach's good books because an Elia style sell on isn't going to happen

Cleverley. Buttner is his evil looking twin.

Awesome night for the Dutch football. Ajax won. Schalke also won courtesy of the Dutch duo, KJH and Afellay. Wasn't all that impressed with KJH, squandered a couple of glorious chances, and looked very static upfront. Ibi, on the other hand, played very well... got a lot of touches and was involved heavily in many occasions. Slotted as a left-sided midfielder, but he drifted to the center to tear apart Arsenal's midfield. He should have earned a PK in the first half, but the decision was against him (he was deemed diving and got yellow carded o_O). Former Eredivisie star, Jefferson Farfan, played excellent, also.

I wonder what they will do now with Draxler, who is quite an exiting talent. Holby is also doing very well for Schalke. Farfan idem dito. This competition is maybe good for Afellay, but I would like to see all of them play at the same time.

Wonder if Stevens would have the balls to play:

    Draxler-------Huntelaar-------Farfan
    .
    ------Holtby----------Afellay--------
    .
    -----------------X--------------------
    .
    LB---------CB-----CB-----------RB

First time I saw Schalke (and Afellay) playing this season. I don't have much familiarity with their formation or style, but I have to say I was pretty content with Afellay's display. I am glad that he gets to play in midfield, which I think it's a better fit for him than playing as a winger. He started in the left side of midfield, but really he played in a free role, actively going up and down the field and to the center. His level of energy was above and beyond everybody else. There were some good moments when his vision allowed him to release players with long passes. And obviously the goal was one of his highlights. But there were also some not-so-good movements when he got out-muscled and robbed when he tried to dribble too much (he needs to work on this!). I'd be curious to see how things will turn out for him this year. Schalke seems doing very well in the early season. I am excited to see him translate his game to the Dutch NT. I think he will be a great asset. We need a dynamic player with ball skills. Strootman and De Jong are too slow and static in my liking. They like to play it safe, while really we need is a sense of urgency in midfield.

If Afellay can regain the speed and energy he had before his injury, and get a spot in midfield, he will be our best RM option. Sure he likes to look at the ball and dribble, but he also has a lot of vision, can move the ball up the field, already knows the system, and has chemistry with van Persie. I think it's unfair to judge him by his Euro form because he wasn't on form at all after injury and van Marwijk put him in a position where his job was to constantly cut in and shoot.
I think the odd man out in midfield will be Hoger. Swap Draxler for Hoger in yesterday's formation:
    Huntelaar - - Farfan
    Holtby
    Draxler------------------Afellay
    Jones
    Back line

I'll have to watch a few more Schalke matches to see how Afellay continues to play. I suspect that this is the right club for him and hope he can make the most of it.

Oh why the hell is Anita at Newcastle? He's finally playing in his proper position, but with two DMs behind him rather than two AMs ahead of him
