He's being brought in to either displace Lennon at left wing forward (lennon can't score consistently and makes poor decisions in dangerous areas), or behind Ade in a 4231 where it was assumed Sigi would play. He's going to play a lot of minutes. He might not start right away, but I will bet my last $.34 he does by the end of the season.

Dempsey is a better footballer and a better fit to AVB's system than either of those guys.

I see Lennon becoming a late game sub, someone who can stretch the opposition's defense when they're already tired. His crossing and decision making leave a lot to be desired, and I don't think he passes well enough to play in AVB's system. Clint has better vision than him.

Gylfi's more of a hustle-and-bustle type with a wicked shot and a bit of finesse. He's not quite the finished product yet.

BTW for those of you that don't know of Spurs' woes at striker... well, until we got Adebayor last year, we hadn't had a legitimate class striker since Berbatov left. As it stands, we only had Adebayor. So Dempsey will certainly play a bit at striker.

Excellent move. However, he won't have much time to make a mark with the Spurs. He has to fit in ASAP.

It will be interesting to see if he gets much PT. For some reason it's hard for me to see him being an AVB pick.

Just the type of conditions that Clint seems to strive under. There will be plenty of minutes to go around in the end IMO

I'm not going to sweat the depth chart. Bale and Lennon will have their annual leg injuries at some point. He'll get enough tick.

    From Sky Sports News:

2012 summer transfer spending (or signings): £486,000,000 ($768,944,768)
2011 summer transfer spending (or signings): £485,000,000 ($767,362,560)
    An increase of .206%

£6m purchase on Clint Dempsey by Tottenham from Fulham/£486m = 1.235%

Wow, that's pretty high standard. Defoe's 11 goals in 17 league games in 11-12 and 18 goals in 34 league games in 09-10 are not good enough to make Defoe a legitimate class striker?

Just have to say. It's hard not to think we dropped the ball this window.

Has to be pretty high I'd imagine. Comparable to Defoe's probably. He's on 60,000 a week

I think Defoe is on £50k, or at least he was before the contract extension.

You're a tough critic but expected from a fan (not saying that in a bad way at all). Just about every pundit I've heard/read thinks Spurs did very well this window.

You conveniently left out the 10/11 season... the thing about Defoe is he's a very one-dimensional striker.

seriously, thanks for your negativity today.

Here's some ready-made quotes for the glass-half empty crowd going forward:

    - Clint makes the squad

"ugh, we could have done better"

    - Clint contributes to the team

" yes, he's doing well FOR A COVER PLAYER"

    - Clint breaks into the starting lineup

" well, that's a questionable choice, but let's see how long he can hold it"

    - Clint is leading/one of leading scorers on the team

" Well, Dempsey is having the season of his life. Lucky we are taking advantage of it"

    - Clint is a key part of a team that makes the Champions League

" Oh, if we could have only held onto VdV....we would be WINNING the Champions
League, the Premiership and all the Cups"

    - Clint is a key part of a team that wins the Premiership

"Oh, if we only had VdV or Mourtinho, we would be WINNING the Champions League"

    - Clint scores the winning goal in the Champions League final

" Wow...what a once-in-lifetime lucky opportunity for the American. Never would have
thought that. Well, anything can happen, can't it?"

    - Clint leaves Tottenham after 6 years as a legend, the best teams in Tottenham history

"Dempsey was really fortunate to have been plucked from Fulham at this time in his career...he really didn't have a lot of options....and to be surrounded by so much talent. What a great break for Clint. He played way above his level and was simply lucky: right place, right time"
