During the Reagan administration, senior Reagan administration officials secretly facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, the subject of an arms embargo.[1] Some U.S. officials also hoped that the arms sales would secure the release of hostages and allow U.S. intelligence agencies to fund the Nicaraguan Contras. Under the Boland Amendment, further funding of the Contras by the government had been prohibited by Congress. Totally pertinent, covert operations selling guns to bad guys to fund more bad guys.... Please.. I'm bored.. Make me gigle at least....
Gun rights fanatics invent violence conspiracy, ignore actual gun violence http://video.msnbc.msn.com/the-rachel-maddow-show/47898272 Summary: The crackpot whose blog incited attacks on numerous Democratic election headquarters when the ACA was passed is the source of the conspiracy theory that members of Congress apparently now believe as fact and are using as the basis of their decision to vote Holder in contempt over. This is an idea culled completely from the right wing echo chamber where it's been percolating for the last year or so and which originated with this Mike Vanderboegh guy that FOXNews uses as their "expert" on Fast and Furious and who very specifically told his readers to smash in the windows of Democratic congresspeople to get the message about how terrible the ACA was... so that they don't have to resort to using guns to stop them. His theory is that the Obama administration, above and beyond all of the previously made (and almost as ridiculous) charges about incompetence, nepotism, etc.during the F&F scandal, actually intentionally screwed up the F&F program as part of a secret plot to turn people against gun rights and destroy the 2nd Amendment. No, really. Listen to what the president of the NRA says in the above video. The Obama administration is secretly trying to take away our guns... by NOT trying to take away our guns. They're lulling us to sleep, you see! The House of Representatives is about to find the Attorney General of the United States in contempt of Congress for not coming clean about a secret plot that is a) absurd on its face; b) a complete fabrication by the rightwing fringe; and c) completely ignored by the mainstream media because of a) and b). Think about that.
They can't get black guy #1 so they go after black guy #2. The new code word is "arrogant." Because "uppity" is too obvious now. http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=eric+holder+arrogant&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Being a bit hyperbolic, of course. It's no fun not to cause a stir. But yes, I do think there's obvious racial motivation in the treatment of this administration by the Republican party.
And it's also obvious to me what the word 'arrogant' means to the mouth breathing masses - it's the new 'uppity'. I'm not the first to note this.
There is absolutely nothing about Eric Holder's personality or demeanor that reads as "arrogant". He's calm, soft spoken, and slow to anger. Much like that arrogant jerk Obama when you think about it...
Maybe they think using executive orders to block the congress (witch hunt) is arrogant, like the prior arrogant president Bush who also blocked congress with executive orders.
Until Darrell Issa holds every single person convicted of vehicular manslaughter accountable, I will demand that all pro-car members of Congress and the Executive Branch be executed. Sound fair? He was a border patrol officer. Had those weapons not been Fast and Furious, he would not be any less dead. His assailants were going to get those guns any way they knew how. F&F was a botched plan, they've stopped doing it, but the small-government conservatives would rather waste millions in oversight expenditures to fix a problem long since concluded. Do you honestly believe the only weapons in Mexico were F&F guns? If not, then could you at least open yourself to the possibility that drug lords have access to weapons anyway? And the sentence should read "now perhaps you can explain to the Terry family who has been held accountable" or it sounds like the Terry family are the ones at fault.
Guns aren't the problem, violent criminals are. In the USA. In Mexico, it's totally the opposite. Gun violence was only caused by the availability of American guns in just this one instance. The source of the gun matters because it makes for good right wing politics this week. Come on, Brummie, keep it straight!
I do wonder if F&F will translate into some sort of gun-control policy out of a GOP representative somewhere in this wonderful country.
Wow, Jay Carney was pretty shaky today when questioned about F&F. Things are starting to get interesting now that the President has invoked Executive Priviledge on an program he had no knowledge about.
I just don't understand why one would need to withhold documents that Holder said he would have no problem releasing if the contempt of Congress charge was dropped?
Or maybe it is what it is, and "arrogant" is the new "uppity". Don't tell us what the sun might look like- step outside where we are and look at it.
I don't think it's particularly new. I saw "arrogant" used to describe Obama since '08, and I figured then it was, along with "thug" and "uppity", a code (intended or not) for someone who doesn't look like he stepped off the Mayflower. I mean, I'm not sure where anyone could get the impression that Obama is any more arrogant than every post-WWII president save Carter.
Gosh, this thread is all about Republicans, right-leaners, and "independent centrists" saying nuh-uh, racism didn't hurt Obama nearly as much as his race helped him based upon zero shreds of evidence, while everyone else points to the study, the overwhelming testimony of Tea Partiers, and the horrendous breaches of precedent by people who should know better as their research. I'd say this argument is over. Sure, the thread will continue, but if you don't have the evidence, you don't have a case. Let's leave you here with this: This: This: This: Finally, this:
I lasted 5 minutes watching the news this morning. Once the republican talking head started asking the democrat talking head to explain to the agent's family why this all has to be secret, I lost my shit. I have yet to hear a republican ask where George Zimmerman got his gun.
The last one is iffy, George Bush was also depicted as a monkey because the left felt he was stupid. How times changed, the Dems and Reps have changed places.
BTW I tried to look for the youtube video, but Viacom was fast on it, so people may want to go to the commedy central website for the Dailyshow view on F&F (you know that it hurt Jon to have to do this, but when democrats are really stupid he does call them on it). "Jon Stewart Trashes Obama's Executive Privilege" (already down) http://www.thedailyshow.com/#tool_tip_2
