Saturday, June 16 • Kickoff: 7:30 PM • Lockhart Stadium

Big match here, the Strikers need to make up for that horrid effort last Sunday. Mark Anderson, Lance Laing, Toni Ståhl and Walter Restrepo will all hopefully be back after missing the last game. 3 points at home in this one is key!

Also, if anyone is interested in supporting the supporters, there are TWO tournaments on Saturday before the game everyone is invited to check out:

Miami Ultras FC is taking the field at Soccer Town in Miami (2728 Northeast 2nd Avenue Miami, FL 33137) at 9AM.

The Flight 19 team, Avengers FC, is hitting the pitch at the 3v3 Live tournament at FTL Stadium(across from Lockhart on the back fields) starting at 9AM as well. Looooooong day at Lockhart, but it should be fun!

Let me start with this - I EXPECT a thorough thrashing of the Eddies this Saturday at Lockhart. It's really the only thing that will allow me to completely dislodge the memory of last week's debacle from my mind. With that in mind, there most certainly better be some changes to the lineup. Here is what I want to see, and what I think gives us the best chance to put a real beating on Edmonton from start to finish (assuming everyone is healthy):

    Glaeser
    Blake - Stewart - Stahl - Laing
    Anderson - Shanosky - Restrepo - Lorenz
    Hassan - King

I'm guessing Herron is out given the way he left the field last Sunday. I LOVED the way Restrepo and Anderson teamed in the MF to control the Rowdies game. I think the two of them feeding the speed (King) and size (Hassan) up front will work, along with the wing play from Laing and Blake. This formation puts a lot of pressure on Stewart, Stahl, and Shanosky to defend, but I think they're up to it along with Blake and Laing on the outside, and Lorenz helping back as well. I think this lineup offers the best chance for ball possession and attack strength.

I really hope a lot of casuals are going to take advantage of the free ticket for dad promotion. We could really use a nice crowd for once. Weather looks to be decent by the forecast, Heat are off til Sunday, Marlins are out of town, if this team could afford to advertise, we might be assured of a good crowd. Just got to hope anyway though. Go Strikers!!!

Storms the last two (or three?) nights in a row at around 10 PM worries me about this one...

I think I'd prefer Pecka or even Gabor at the holding midfielder spot to Shanosky...of course that brings up problems with resolving where he goes. It's been a while since we've seen Shanosky where he started though...

BIG 1-0 win, huge 3 points. Could have / should have been more goals from the Strikers, unlucky to hit the post THREE times. First half again we absolutely dominated. Great to see Andy Herron back too, got the game winner and looked good out there. Mark Anderson nearly put in another beauty on that free kick, hit the crossbar. That guy is pure class.

Now on 16 points, one back of Minnesota, 4 back of Puerto Rico. A top two finish is there for the taking! The boys have to go get it, and next Saturday at Minnesota is a huge opportunity!

Also best wishes and a speedy recovery to Polo Morales, that was a terrible injury, broke both bones in his leg, scary stuff.

He certainly played great and did everything we needed...but he looks like he's waiting for his legs to shut down on him...hopefully it's just a fitness issue and not a matter of not being 100% recovered.

According to the Miami Herald attendance was 2,663. Not bad, but I'd love to see us nearer 4K per game.

Great win - it, it easily could have been 4-0 - clouded by Polo's injury. Here's hoping for the speediest and most complete recovery possible.

Much needed win for the Strikers. They should have scored about 5 goals I think. Had a great time at Lockhart as always. The Morales injury horror was a bummer. Hope he makes a full recovery soon.

Edmonton plays us well. The Strikers had the upper hand for most of it and the most chances. However, their inability to finish could have really put us in the hole if not for Herron's goal. The Eddies had a chance or two as well that didn't go. I think a fair result could have been 3-1 (post shots could have just as easily gone wide, its just not as exciting! I am starting to really enjoy Blake rippin' up the right side with purpose. He's not polished, but has some potential. Mark Anderson looked out to prove something with quick runs, but I think edmonton had eyes on him. I can't blame them. he can hurt you from anywhere.

So, another disappointing crowd, despite the free tickets for dads promotion, and our injury news gets worse every day it seems. Thank God we managed to pull out a win in this one. It was hairy there for awhile with all the missed chances, and the horrendous no-call for a PK when Herron was taken down in the box early in the game. A terrible injury for Morales, it was difficult watching his teammate's reactions because that immediately gave you a sense of how bad it was. Hopefully he makes a full recovery. And who knows, sometimes something like this can become a rallying point for the rest of the team. We certainly saw that with what Restrepo did after the goal. Maybe this brings the team even closer together and begins a run of determined, inspired play. Would be nice to see.
