Just got back to the hotel room after drinking away that abomination of a game. Watching it live in the middle of 18k Toronto fans who were dying for a win was a lot of fun even though it was painful to watch from a Union fan perspective. Got to give it to Toronto and their fans - they just wanted this game more, regardless of records. We should have lost 4 or 5-0, but man, did Toronto really miss some sitters. A couple of points before I watch the game on MDL.

-Mwanga is just terrible. That lazy sob did not make one run to open space the entire game. When he did get the ball, he was either physically removed from it or just made a pass back that killed the entire momentum going forward. All this for $350k this year, and we traded LT9 instead? F*ck me!
-Gaddis looked off during warm-ups and got killed once the whistle blew. I could see that from my seats 50yds away, but of course Peter can't from 2. I understand bringing in LaHoud but why Marfan at RB for a good portion of the game? Then we go to what looked like a 3-6-1 though I have no idea what Mwanga was doing!
-I need to look at the stats, but I think we lost every aerial ball played into our box. I like Williams, but shit, the kid is at best a RB and watching him play CB is just painful. Can we ask Chivas for a mulligan on that trade or at least find someone over 6ft to play CB for us!
-I can't tell you the amount of times we had guys making runs down the sideline or through the middle and instead of playing the ball there, we made a square or back pass. For the love of all that is holy, can we actually play a dangerous ball forward instead of the constant play back to Williams or Valdez from our midfield only to have them hoof the ball forward to no one but the other team's CB.
-Last but not least, Nowak needs to go. Around the 85th min I said to the Toronto fan next to me (who I was chatting with most of the game about the state of our 2 teams) congrats on the win. He gave me a look like what, and I said, "Just wait, your goal is coming in the next 2-3 mins" and sure enough we give up such a soft, ugly, shite goal that is so typical of this team that I even called 2hrs before kick off. This team is just a joke and it starts with the a-hole coach!

Good lord-what an abomination this was. Thankfully we went to a party at our friend's house so I only just now watched the game on DVD-R (and thank God for fast forward).
When I wanted Novak gone around this time last year I was bashed. Now, I think I would get knighted.
He dismantled a team that was already offensively challenged last season but still made the playoffs and showed great progress.
I despised every single damn move in the offseason and it did not take a genius to see this team was instantly made worse and inexperienced.
It is UNWATCHABLE soccer. There is no flow on offense at all-none. Just aimless runs up and down the field. No creativity, no good set pieces and lots of lineup changes.
They continue to claim they play "attacking soccer". First off, who the hell doesn't attack the goal, and secondly this is a joke. It is worse than watching Jack And Jill 10 straight times.
You are going to be seeing plenty of empty seats soon and that is not a good thing at all. But, who could blame people? Losing 1-0 to Toronto was all too predictable and abysmal viewing.
Also, the "announcing" today was comical as Rigby and the other ass-clown kept saying the Union were courageous, and the staff made brilliant halftime adjustments last week and that was going to be an up and down and exciting game for the fans.
For God's sake, Rigby is an ass-kissing joke to endure.
This is so tough to endure and I've lost interest and can't watch this shite.
Please fire Novak and his pathetic staff and get rid of the talentless foreign rejects from 4th rate leagues and young guys who are bad signings and picks. Blow it up please. It didn't even have to be done after last season but it does now.
And for those who mock LeToux's 3 goals so far? You're boobs-on THIS team in THIS system LeToux was an all-out goal scorer and would have more than 3 goals right now and would've made those around him better. Forget about that now.

And now, for something completely different...,

Just got done watching both Califf and Moreno put in solid efforts against Seattle in a 1-1 draw. Chivas must have a gifted trainer because Califf is running pretty well for someone with both knee and hamstring injuries.

Perhaps Dan managed to snag Nowak's #4 voodoo doll on his way out of the Union locker room.

Holy balls this team blows. Nowak has traded all of our quality veteran players for allocation money. What's left is a shell of the team that went to the playoffs last year. Nowak is completely and utterly inept as a coach. It was obvious from the opening whistle that Gaddis was not up to the job today - some are saying he was sick? - but it took Nowak most of the first half to finally figure that out and waste a sub. Good thing we have so much defensive depth and don't have to play midfielders there!

The midfield was absolute garbage today without Gomez or Daniel. They are the only two guys who can hold anything together there. Marfan at RB is utter stupidity; he's a defensive liability and he offers so much more on the attack... why would you play him there? WHY?

I am so sick of watching the same game every week. 11 men behind the ball defending, practically no offense, repeated long balls to nowhere, and zero creativity. We deserved to lose that game and would have lost it by a crushing margin had the opponent been any squad other than the utterly inept TFC. Nowak should be fired immediately.

the only positive to the night is that after the abomination that this game was, we got to watch the MNT put a thorough ass whipping on Scotland. I flat out told a buddy of mine that is a big soccer fan to just not even watch any more Union games this year. He's completely turned off by their horrid play and I can't say that I blame him. I'll continue to watch every minute though, since i'm apparently a sadist.

“We’re not going to slow down,” the Union manager said. “We’re going to play like that for the remainder of the season.”

Those are some depressing graphs, CopaMundial, but thanks for posting them.

By the way, Columbus and Chicago are now tied for 4th place in the Eastern Conference, both having earned 1.5 points per game.

I've been using NYRB's 46-point 5th place finish last year as a playoff target for the Union but CLB and CHI are currently on pace for 51 points. Even 6th place Houston will end up with 49 points if they keep up their present pace.

It's certainly possible these teams will come back to earth a little bit with so many inter-conference games still to be played, but it's not unreasonable to assume you might need 50 points to make the playoffs in the East. We'll need to earn 1.83 ppg going forward to reach that target. That would be a 62 point pace over the whole season...or something like a 12-5-6 record (W-L-T) from here on out.

I've had time to calm down and my thoughts.

    - We lost to the "worst team in the world" so what in the hell does that make us?

    - Nowak has clearly lost the team. Toronto was coming off a midweek match, they should have been physically and emotionally spent from winning the Canadian Championship, however, instead they ran all over us and made us look totally ridiculous, if they had someone to finish shots they easily would have had a 2 or 3-0 lead by the half.

    - Nowak also needs to man the hell up and accept responsibility for this turd on the field, he needs to apologize for making the moves that, while he thought they were right, were clearly in the wrong. The lack of defensive depth, which I've been concerned about since before the goddamned season started finally bit us in the ass. If Carlos Valdes goes down with an injury, the defense, as laughable as it can be, will become even worse.

    - I'm glad that Toronto got their first points, I'm unhappy they came against us.

And with that, we are the toilet paper to the buttocks known as MLS's current power rankings ... wiping up the rear.
