Another one to add to the list. Apparently the U.S. department of Time Magazine is not too fond of soccer either. Really bugs me that they would do this. Messi is on the cover of the latest Time Magazine globally, with the exception of the United States issue, which is featuring a bit about "shyness" instead. The picture and info is in the link below. Too bad for soccer and especially too bad for soccer in the U.S. Messi Gets Snubbed
Maybe it's because they'll make more money with that than with a cover story on Messi... I don't see how this says they're not fond of soccer. They have a duty to make the most money, not promote soccer.
Ehh - how compelling is a cover about shyness though? At least with the Messi cover you might be interested to find out who this guy is. Is the article still in the US version of Time or did they rip the article completely?
A basher gets suspended: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/breaking-roland-martin-suspended-by-cnn-for-offensive-super-bowl-tweets/
ugh - yet another CNN dope. And he's supposedly a man of the cloth. This kind of attitude towards what constitutes masculinity in the black community is what caused stupidity like Proposition 8 to get such wide support in California. Honestly, CNN such an embarrassment.
I am shocked SHOCKED I say to read these outrageous claims about Soccer injuries vs American Football Injuries in this article. "Bountygate Debate: Why Football is Still Better Than Soccer" "This misguided hypocrisy ignores the outrageous number of career-ending injuries in Soccer. There’s easily a half-dozen per match--more if you count pre-tilt muggings by British Hooligans. The worst part? Soccer injuries are both rampant and faked."--EXCERPT http://tinyurl.com/cc360bounty
This. Test cricket is the most strategic game invented by mankind. An Ashes series comes the closest to the war analogy in the world of sports. No other sporting event requires 2 years of dedicated strategizing, from players, coaches, media, the folks who cut the grass at the stadium, the weather forecasters, and the fans.
every sport at the highest level has a massive amount of strategy in its own right. No need to bash one in favor of the other like what some of these blinded pundits do that don't understand. Some people just understand certain sports better than others and take the fact that they don't understand the strategy to mean that it doesn't exist.
I want people to get ready because once this story makes the rounds at American media, it won't be long until the bashers jump on it. It has everything they "like": foreign country, even Muslim; 0-0 result; overturned police cars; fans throwing chairs at players and police, not to mention two sending offs. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wor...ice-article-1.1077145?localLinksEnabled=false And you can bet that you-know-who-who-is-at-an-obscure-sports-channel will open his mouth on this story.
Get this "gem" from Doc Emrick of NBC Sports: http://deadspin.com/5912213/doc-emrick-reads-promo-for-mls-is-unable-to-avoid-ripping-soccer-players-for-diving
They guy who once said that lacrosse requires more skill than soccer's "fancy footwork"? No thank you.
I played in an established youth league in Maryland in the 70s. At the time it was believed that soccer and the metric system would firmly take hold in the US by the end of the decade. Although that didn't happen, I think soccer might be doing better than the metric system in the US today. In today's Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a quote from Frank Deford giving a lecture at a nearby university, "There are two great myths in American sports. Next year soccer will be popular in the United States. And next year college presidents will do something do clean up college athletics."
Soccer has been popular here for years. Even before I was fan, I saw people wearing their team's jerseys all the time
I wouldn't worry about Deford (or Dracula as he is looking more and more like) I bet a savvy computer person can put together quotes from him saying soccer/world cup will a) never get an American audience B) only get a small audience c) only will get an audience every four years D) will get big audiences if the US is good E) will get big audience for big event matches etc etc etc.. He is a man that once lived in a world where boxing and horse racing were huge sports but will deny that the US can change in its sports preferences. I think its fun listening to him as its fun to see the stereo-scope: relics from our past.
espn tilted the best of the best poll against a soccer play? Today sportscenter anchors allegedly told viewers to vote for the gridiron play for the sake of change. I can't link but the poll results and comments are still up in the sportsnation section. I guess this sort of thing is expected from espn but I thought I'd share it.
