For those not on the Facebook machine, I had these made and sold them at the Red Bull match last Sunday in Lot 8. We ended up raising about $274 for the Chico Fund and there are still about 150 left over, rough estimate. BBBulldog aka Srdan from District Ultras has a bunch left and I have 100 or so at home. I won't be back up to RFK for a while so I'm taking PayPal payments for those that want them. They're $1 (minimum donation) each plus $1 to cover envelope and stamp. Pedro at PedroAida dot com

I went to the season ending DCU awards ceremony once back in 2006. Not sure what awards they give out these days but maybe they can create a perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to D.C. United award for a deserving DCU player and name the award after Chico.

Just got back from the funeral and Kilroy's about a half hour ago.

Very nice way to say goodbye to a good friend.

    RIP, Chico.

So when the choir leader said they were going to celebrate Chico's life with music, I leaned over to Publius, who was next to me, and whispered "I hope she means some Zappa."

But all we got was boring church music.

    :D

The Methodists at least get Dylan and Hank, Sr. in their hymn books.

They did sing "How Great Thou Art?" I'm familiar with Elvis's version of it.

I'm sure those are his exact thoughts.

But it's done out of respect, and I'm sure he'd appreciate that.

I'm all for the "CHICO STAND". Chico welcomed and retained many many friends. Theres many fans out there that had passed, and I'm sure many have lost their voice as many of us have in these games, but Chico did soo much more then just cheer, he made everyone feel welcome, and created a theme that became a Halmark for La Barra.

Yes. Chico was very good at this. Dude was brilliant and new intimidation at the right moment would prevent an actual fight, but also knew the right moment to calm the insecure.

The dude was a JEDI with Human emotions.

    Thanks Bob

I'm reposting this so that if anyone resorts to this thread to find info, they will hopefully not spend too much time looking.

I just wanted to place this quote of what Chico said in response to me several years ago about the stadium situation and club being in bad situation that always stuck with me.

"I think this is true for all of us. We watched this baby be born, grow and start to walk. Most of us have been there every step of the way, thru good times and bad. It's the special relationship between oneself and their team that plays the beautiful game. The passion is unrivaled and the highs are indescribable and the lows are gut wrenching. We wouldn't have it any other way. I just ask the soccer gods to let us keep living the dream. So buckle up, it ain't over till it's over."

    Well said sir.

I took my "blank" authentic to the DC United store at RFK today, and had this done to it.

I hope my friend Chico approves.

    Kudos.

But do post and try to get a picture of the first teenybopper who comes along and says, 'OMG its Chico! We heard you died!'

I can only assume that someday I'll stop crying.

This isn't the first time someone I loved has died. But every time, at least for me, it seems like it's never happened before.

You just know there's some fun to be had there that Chico would probably laugh about. Then say, "Knock it off," while giving them a beer and welcoming them in.
