#RoadToMiami Ill open this up with my first bit of news regarding the upcoming 2012 season. LSU hire Nebraska's DB Coach, Corey Raymond. He'll be replacing Ron Cooper, who took the DC job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Great hire. This is LSU's second hiring after hiring earlier this year, the Oakland Raider's TE coach, Adam Henry. Replacing Billy Gonzalez, who left to become University of Illinois OC.

So, Petrino was in a motorcycle accident. Okay, besides his age, pulling a Roethlisberger or Kellen Winslow isn't necessarily a big story. Unless.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...o-crash.ap/index.html?sct=hp_t2_a12&eref=sihp
Petrino placed on leave. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=pf-forde_arkansas_petrino_suspended_accident_040412
atta boy Bobby!! ...but seriously, he messed up pretty bad. I think hes just on leave to keep Spring Practice from being a media circus. I think he gets quietly reinstated sometime in early May.
He put his mistress on the payroll. He lied to his boss, which caused him to put out a false statement on what happened. I don't care who you are, if I had an employee who basically fooled me lie to the entire country for him, I'd be furious. But... This cannot be a surprise to people. His character is a known quantity. If you saw how he acted at Louisville or with the Falcons, you had to know what you were getting. If you thought he was going to be a model citizen, you're crazy. Everyone believes Arkansas has the chance to be very good this year, perhaps even win a national championship with a few good bounces. This is SEC country. College football is everything. The school isn't going to do anything to jeopardize a chance at a title. I'd be floored if they let Petrino go.
Even if Petrino is fired though, I still think we can be successful. We've got plenty of talent. And If we promote Paul to HC or steal Garrick McGee back from UAB (I always thought he should be the next coach after Petrino). I dont think we will miss a beat. Our entire coaching staff is very good and I dont think Petrino being here or not will have a big effect.
Unless those bounces occur during a time of planetary alignment or something, the Hogs will be the best 10-2 or 9-3 team in the land. That's all they're going to get. They have no chance at a title, not really. The East is almost a joke, but Arkansas is in the West, which is a two-horse race. The horses are Bama and LSU. But I agree about them keeping Petrino. They think they have a shot.
Arkansans think they have a shot. They don't but as long as they think they do they won't get rid of petrino.
Well, Alabama and LSU have to go to Fayetteville this year so that helps their cause. Two years ago when Arkansas had this schedule and Mallett was QB, they beat LSU in Little Rock and narrowly lost to Bama at home. Of course they also lost on the road to Cam Newton's Auburn- that trip won't be as challenging this year. Arkansas can't seem to have one year where everything breaks right. Last year they had the QB and receivers and the defense was improved, but the schedule was tougher and Knile Davis injured. Still finished 10-2 and should have been in a BCS bowl considering who they lost to. This year Davis and Wilson are back, but they graduated top three WRs and lost out on DGB to Missouri. And the O-line is always an issue. Tyler Wilson is the best QB in the SEC though.
That's because they're Arkansas. Teams make their own luck almost all the time. Auburn 2010 is the sole exception I can think of in quite a while. Doesn't matter what bowl they go to if it isn't the B(C)S title game. Everyone else, regardless of bowl "prestige", is just kissing their sister in front of a bunch of drunken tourists. I thought it was COTF A.J. McCarron Seriously, it's either Wilson or Aaron Murray.
Well, the bowl you go to should at least be a reflection of your season's body of work. Arkansas might have been the third best team in the country last year, but the rule about how many teams from the same conference could participate kept them out of the BCS. There is no perfect system. The more teams you have in a playoff, the more it becomes all about matchups. I think a plus one would be the best compromise at this point, that way the regular season would still be meaningful and we wouldn't have scenarios like Auburn '04 and Oklahoma State '11. I'd give Wilson the nod- he put up slightly better numbers than Murray last year with a below average O line in a tougher division. Both should have good pro careers though.
