http://www.dcunited.com/news/2012/04/fan-reaction-marc-burchs-comments Marc Burch is pretty motivated to play D.C.: "It's time to go back and prove that I don't believe that their left back is better than I am." Burch: "They had the opportunity to keep me and they didn't. ... It's time to go back there and prove that we have a much better team here." ---------- So it looks like Payne isnt the only one that thinks Burch is the best LB in MLS!
He got called for an undeserved penalty in their last game (vs. San Jose) but didn't get a red. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-03-31-sea-v-sj/highlights?videoID=180851
Burch has a better left foot than any of our defenders. After that, Woolard beats him in all other categories. Besides, Burch was ALWAYS injuried; we had like 5 of those guys on the team last year. Hope Burch enjoys Seattle and gets over his DCU butthurt.
*Cross post For Burch, the question shouldn't even be who is the better LB, because the real issue was who is the better value at LB for teams with a salary cap. In United's situation, there's no sane way we should have held onto him. Being and acting like a professional, he should recognize this and not throw Woolard under the bus llike that. Of course, this is the same guy who while sitting on the bench at a USOC game at the Plex spent most of the game WE WERE LOSING turning around and smiling and making googly eyes to some young woman in the stands near me, and joking around with the guys on the bench next to him. My opinion of him as a player never recovered. He should probably watch his mouth.
Exactly. He had plenty of opportunity to prove that he was worth his salary and cap hit. He didn't do it. Burch, has not one to blame but himself. I hate people that take no responsibility for things that happen to them. What an @ss. Sounders may be >than DCU right now, but that has NOTHING to do with Burch. Hope we rip him a new on on Saturday!!
Methinks Burchy has been hanging around the Flounder's supporters a bit too much and has picked up on their "we're soccer's gift to the MLS" attitude.
Methinks Sigi thinks if he can get Woolard to make some ill-advised runs forward, the Sounders can take advantage. Oh, and, the aliens... gray, not green.
It's funny how the tide turns around here. When Burch walked in the door at DC, one of the first things he did was go on a diatribe about what a bad guy/lockerroom cancer/egomaniac the recently departed Freddy Adu was. This despite the fact that I don't believe they ever actually played a game with each other (Adu was leaving when Burch was coming). At the time I expressed serious concerns about the character of a guy who would say something like that publicly about someone he had probably never had a conversation with. It's one thing to say that amongst your friends or anonymously on a message board (as noone takes people seriously here). Another thing totally for a player to say it in an interview with the local beat writer (again, with no personal knowledge of his own). But at the time, this board latched onto his statement as gospel. Burch is a fool and has always been a fool. Trying to logically dissect his words is a fool's errand.
Would you really want a professional athlete thinking that he shouldn't start? There's nothing in this comment.
I've been wondering what I had missed, what was so incendiary about what Burch said. Like much mentioned on in BigSoccer it is much ado about nothing.
Yeah. People just have a general dislike for Burch and it's unusual for us DCU fans to hear less than good things from former players or even incoming players. What I will always remember of Burch, first and foremost, was defending his teammate Simms and giving Blanco what he deserved in an Open Cup match.
Actually what Blanco deserved was to get the everloving crap beat out of him for punching Simms for simply carrying the ball back to the center line. Burch just shoved into him a bit. I thought it showed great restraint on his part and he walked off the field like a true professional.
I only put it here because I saw it on the DCU website and i thought it would provoke a bit of conversation here... sorry its not up to your standards.
Nothing wrong with this thread IMHO. THis is BS after all. I wasn't the slightest bit disappointed when I heard he was leaving. Burch was not a particularly good 1v1 defender. He didn't play great positional defense, he was frequently injured, and our back four never demonstrated great cohesion or chemistry for 90 minutes (admittedly, or without) with him in the line up. He occasionlly had a good cross/ switch of fields and rarely he did something useful on a set piece, but I would not say that he had a cultured Left foot nor the skill or speed to contribute significantly to the offense. Since we have comparable youngers players (that cost less?$$), made since to let him go. Maybe he'll be great with Sounders (fit well with their scheme, stay healthy, develop chemistry with his mates), but it wasn't happening here. Again, I really to care much about Burch, but I hope we can find a way to expose the weaknesses that we know are there and witnessed first hand. DCU definitely knows that his right peg is only for standing
He was adequate-to-nice filler for a few years. The combination of his extreeeeeme one footedness and the related slowness with which he prepared the ball for service meant he was not a good enough attacking weapon to a) make up for positional issues and b) his cap hit. I wished he had worked out here, but he didn't, so I hope we crush him like a bug.
There, I fixed twit's marks for you because he has apparently become a twit that tweets... Would I get a hand slap if one of those proceeding letters were an a?
LOL what all the posters have said about Burch is spot on. His only redeeming quality is his left foot. Never seen the guy do anything with his right foot. He also looked very casual when he played. Not sure if he was just too full of himself or he just didn't have any passion to fight for the shirt. Remember Burch got cut 2x (LA, Columbus) before DCU, so I don't know why he is all butthurt about this. Anyways, from a defensive prospective, he's not better than that Costa Rican guy González so I doubt he will start for them against us.
