Delivering the perfect cross (and that's what he did on the cross and later spot kick) is extremely valuable to have on the field. Especially with taller forwards we seem to have. I have not noticed the huge errors he apparently makes elsewhere, but I start him, especially if Benny is not there who may also deliver accurately. Tierney is a legitimate offensive threat now that he has players that he can service.

That pick may give him an idea how to excel thus season as an older player, but many think that he wants to be in the thick of the attack. I worry about turnovers.

Not that Tierney is Roberto Carlos or Dani Alves, but if the team defense can be tightened up enough, there is a role for an attacking fullback who spends most of his time cheating up the wing. It would be particularly true if CT could make himself into a free kick specialist. If opposing defenses are going to kick the snot out of our forwards all the time, it would be nice if we could make them pay.

You haven't noticed the errors he makes, like the fact he passes the ball to the other team more than any other Rev, including Brettschneider? Do you even watch the games?

Go online, look at the chalkboard. Tierney completes 50% of his passes on a good day. That's unacceptable for a wing back. I'll give him one more game with Feilhaber, Nguyen, Rowe, and Cardenas to link up with, but then I'm done.

I did leave the Fort thinking, the problem with Revolution is that they don't know how to play soccer for the sheer number of times they turned it over and did not have possession. Brett. Especially caught my eye. On DVR though Tierney showed me something twice with his deliveries; just past the defensive line, and well short of the goalie. An extremely dangerous ball into the box. If you want to count the number of crosses and kicks that are wasted toward the goalie, or easy for defenders, then you are missing a lot of MLS play and even in foreign leagues. If he needs to work on his passing and defense, so be it, but the two crosses were in Beckham territory, and did not look lucky.

Zachary Shiawski, hat trick, unnecessary extra year plus with team, untold painful minutes on the field (often starts). Enough said.

You do realize that it's Beckham territory because he does it much more often than not ... right? One key component that people are ignoring about the cross, and even Tierney mentioned it ... no one closed on him. He had a ton of time to look up, push forward a bit and then cross it. It was a very good ball, but let's slow down here folks.

This and his crosses are more often off target than on.

Exactly. Tierney's dead ball delivery isn't so precise to justify automatic starting 11 status, especially when he struggles to 1) defend 2) maintain possession and 3) create space for himself to provide crosses on the attack. Yes, give him all day and he can provide quality service but when he's actually defended, his crossing has a broken clock level of accuracy.

I don't think Tierney is really a critical issue right now.

He just participated in a back-line that earned a shut out.

He hits a decent cross, can move the ball around a bit. Picks his spots getting forward okay. His effort is always there as well.

In two games he has 2 successful crosses on 11 attempts. He was also on the back line that gave up 3 goals to KC. There are several week spots on this team but I think he is the weekest link right now

This. And he's given the ball away 70 times in two games. That means Tierney gives the ball to the other team once every 2.5 minutes.

Decent argument considering they are backed by stats but I have a hard time taking anything from the KC game considering they were a man down. It's a lot more difficult to complete a pass if you're looking at one less target.

Anyone think Lechner could potentially start at left back?

With McCarthy, potentially Barnes and Lozano, and Shalrie all available to partner with Soares that leaves Lechner to player at one of the two fullback spots.

Speaking of stats (didn't see if anyone beat me to it or not), I found this kinda funny. Notice any names?

How many successful crosses do you want? And it's not a binary success, but the quality. If it is anomaly, then we will see. I get it, he is not a defender. He does not need to start, but he has a skill that can be vital. If it is a skill he is working on, it isn't always going to come up.

Hopefully we score again in this game, or we might have to go all this next home game:

I think two weakest spots on NE are the LB and RB

I like how we traded two guys who have never been on a losing team for a guy who has never been on a winning team. And by like I mean I hate it. A lot.

    Injury report from Tuesday
PROBABLE: Kevin Alston (nasal fracture), Shalrie Joseph (illness), Chris Tierney (R ankle sprain)

QUESTIONABLE: Darrius Barnes (L calf strain)

DOUBTFUL: John Lozano (R hip flexor strain)

OUT: Zak Boggs (R ankle sprain), Benny Feilhaber (L peroneal strain), Sainey Nyassi (DL - R hamstring strain)

I hope the ankle sprain means Lechner gets the start at LB.
Any tweets on Lechner and Moreno as far as practing goes or if they are flying with the team to LA?

I'd love to see the Revs attack from the start on this one. LA didn't play last weekend, having the bye, so hopefully a little rust sets in ...

Listening to the Corner of the Galaxy pod, LA's defense is a ?, so getting on scoring sheet early is key.

Sounds like Donovan is questionable for the game with a slight muscle strain.

Donovan is questionable because they can beat us 3-0 without him. If this game was at Rio Tinto or, gasp, home to Seattle, Landycakes would be out there.

    Unless you mean Donovan Ricketts

Heaps said (in interview with Lemieux: http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/video/2012/03/29/inside-six-galaxy) that he wants Shalrie back in midfield. Also, as people speculated in this thread, Moreno is not ready to play much a of role in LA, but maybe in Dallas. So, tomorrow night Rowe and Nguyen and Guy all get rewarded for the Portland game with another start?

[LINEUP-4-5-1]Sene, Nguyen, Guy, Shalrie, Sims, Rowe, Tierney, Barnes, Soares, Alston, Reis[/LINEUP-4-5-1]

Lechner may well start, replacing one of Tierney, Barnes, or Alston.

Bench: Lechner (or TBA), McCarthy, Cardenas, Fagundez, Moreno or Brettschneider, Purdie or White.

Subject to change depending on today's injury report.
