CONCACAF Gold Cup has always been held in USA. Only Mexico has co-organized this tournament with USA in 1993 and 2003. Even Canada has yet received youth's world championships, never organized it. And what about Panama, Costa Rica or Trinidad? So Gold Cup in USA, is it forever? This is the only confederation in which we see this kind of thing! Here's proof! Seen on CONCACAF's website. "Thirty propective venue and host committees from across the United States participated in the start of the stadium selection process for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup on tuesday....". The General Secretary of CONCACAF said in addition : "We are extremely pleased with the increased interes in the Gold Cup. We look foward to working with our stadium partners to continue to grow this biennial event and build soccer in CONCACAF region". Sorry for some but I think CONCACAF Gold Cup will be held forever in Uncle Sam!
It's beginning to look like that is the case. Which is unfortunate as I really wanted to see the tournament spread out over the Caribbean some day. 1st Round and knock out stages in TnT, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Cuba. With the final in Tampa (it does face the Caribbean).
Increased interest?Give me a break!Watch next year how some of the stadiums will be almost empty for some of the matches .....Also,I'm sorry but how does a tournament that is held every two years in the same country since it's inception will help build soccer in the CONCACAF region?? These CONCACAF officials really believe that we're going to buy that? What a load of bull sh*t!
except how many ppl are going to go watch a match between guadelupe and jamaica played in mexico city? or in vancouver?
I would like to see Canada or Mexico host sometime, or a joint bid for Central America or the Carribean. if Concacaf want's the money from the gold cup in the US why not have it every other time in the US, years confederations cup is held. then in the other years Mexico, Canada, Central America, or the Carribean. they could hold the Carribean Final in Florida and the Central America final in Mexico if needed.
I love this kind of speech! Words that are bordeline contempt! But it's true, people are not content with one only game and that's why we have double headers in CONCACAF Gold Cup, right? Yes, why not Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Panama or Trinidad and Tobago? Remember that Trinidad and Tobago still hosted two youth world cup in the past. U-17 in 2001 and U-17 (women) in 2010.
It will be in the USA until a Federation asks to host it. The USA is the only Federation that wants the darn thing and it makes the most money which in the grand scheme of things helps the CONCACAF. Canada was rumored a couple years ago to host a group but that went down the toilet in a hurry. Until a Federation screams and yells for the tournament to be awarded to them then the USA is the best place to host it.
I think each group is held in a different nation....bt its a $ thing..you will make the most $ in america cause every nationality lives here....
I'm sure Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, and countless joint hosting possibilities can do a good job. People act like if it was held elsewhere the ticket sales would suffer and financially it would suffer. Have you seen the attendance of Gold Cup games in the US? They put on double headers and still struggle to put more than 2000 people in the stands for most games. In these other countries, the love of football is bigger and the tournament would draw lots more people to the stadiums. The Gold Cup would be better off with different hosting each time! Period!
I think a Gold Cup in Mexico would work. Mexico matches would draw well. Maybe not sellouts, but great crowds. The central american teams could draw well to. Though it would be best to place matches with those teams in Southern Mexico to be on the safe side. Even USA, I think they would be a great draw as well. Granted, most people would go to jeer them, but the people would show up to watch.
We sell out all the games. we don't struggle at all. over 600,000 people attended the gold cup in 2011.
Webb said in interview to Reuters CONCACAF will look at alternative hosts. So long at it isn't just a joint host between Canada and the USA but actually rotates that would be great news. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/webb-keen-usher-era-concacaf-222702570--sow.html
I don´t know about Canada but this isn´t true for Mexico at all. Nobody would watch non Mexico games. They will have to pay people to go to the games. There isn´t a large ex pat community for any of the other countries that would watch and people don´t give a damn about CONCACAF countries including Central America. Mexico has everything else to host the tournament but the fanfare.

A bit late to say this, but I think the reason why the Gold Cup is always held in the USA is a matter of attendance. Take the upcoming Gold Cup, for example. Mexico has been seeded in Group C. The matches for that group will take place: 1st matchday: Qualcomm Stadium at San Diego. Capacity: 70,561 2nd matchday: Sports Authority Field at Denver. Capacity: 76,125 3rd matchday: Alamodome at San Antonio. Capacity: 65,000 Meanwhile, the United States were seeded in Group B. 1st matchday: Nissan Stadium at Nashville. Capacity: 69.000 2nd matchday: Raymond James Stadium at Tampa. Capacity: 65,890 3rd matchday: FirstEnergy Stadium at Cleveland. Capacity: 67,431 Group A has no team seeded yet, perhaps awaiting for Costa Rica to formally qualify through the Central American Cup in a few days. 1st matchday: Red Bull Arena at Harrison. Capacity: 25,000 2nd matchday: BBVA Compass Stadium at Houston. Capacity: 22,000 3rd matchday: Toyota Stadium at Frisco. Capacity: Just 16,000 As you can see, Mexico will play in larger venues than those of the other two groups, except for the Alamodome, which has a slightly lower capacity than those of Group B. Group A, for instance, will be played in far much smaller venues, as Central American people in the US would not normally fill large stadia. It has always been this way. The 2014 Central American Cup final reported an attendance of 41,969 at the LA Memorial Coliseum, which has a capacity of 93,000. We couldn't even fill half of the stadium. This is, by the way, the same reason why some people, specially in Central America, argue that the Cup is fixed to be won by either Mexico or the USA. Take the only example this didn't happen: The 2000 Gold Cup. During the group stage and quarter-finals, we saw attendances ranging from ~18,000 to ~54,250, which are still normal nowadays. However, Mexico and the USA were both eliminated in the quarter-finals, as did Honduras and Costa Rica. Guatemala was already eliminated in the group stage, and since the South American invitees (Colombia and Peru) were not treating this as a top tournament, interest from its fans was minimals. Attendances then dropped so hard for the semi-finals (Peru-Colombia reported just 3,402 people and Canada-Trinidad and Tobago reported a very low 2,841) and the Canada-Colombia final (just 7,000 people). Taking conspiracy theories or not, another episode like this would definetly hurt CONCACAF. So, since Mexico and the USA lead without any doubt on attendances, the Gold Cup will stay there in the USA. Moving it to Mexico would keep the attendances by Mexican fans, but not from Americans and Central Americans. Moving it to a joint Central American cup would also hurt attendances as there are just one stadium with more than 40,000. In that regard, a Gold Cup in the Caribbean would be a complete disaster.
Yeah and that attitude has kept concacaf in terms of organization and growth small. Every other region with the exception of the OFC does better in prize money, sponsorship, and venues across their region. The CCL is the biggest joke of a champions league in the world and only appears to be getting worse
There's insider talks that the CSA will indeed host a solo Gold Cup at some point in the future. We have the stadiums however, convincing CFL owners to shut down their stadiums for the World Cup is one thing, but for a Gold Cup, that's another thing. Once enough soccer specific stadiums gets build due to the emergence of the Canadian Premier League, the CSA is expected to acquire the rights to host the Gold Cup in Canada
You may wish to review basic demographics before laying all the blame for this on the CONCACAF offices. Population estimates as of 2010. Source: Population Reference Bureau 4,157,300,000 Asia 1,030,400,000 Africa __738,600,000 Europe __461,114,000 North America __390,700,000 South America ___36,700,000 Australia Of that population you're looking at the US and Mexico accounting for ~ 400M of that, so the vast majority of CONCACAF members have a market population base of about 60M. That's all. By comparison the CONMEBOL population outside of Brazil and Argentina is about 150M. So while South America is a smaller region they have multiple nations that are a) soccer-centric in their sporting passions, and b) of sizable populations to produce interested fans and competitive teams. CONMEBOL can look beyond Brazil and Argentina and see the likes of Colombia, Chile and Venezuela. In CONCACAF your next best team/brand is Costa Rica (population < 5M). Canada is a generation or two behind the US in terms of producing talent for making noise on the global stage, while other member nations like Guatemala and Cuba have the population but are historically more wedded to baseball than soccer. Otherwise you're relying on the likes of Jamaica or El Salvador to become a regional power. This means as a product the CONCACAF region and Gold Cup only have 2 prominent teams. ie: They are the Scottish Premier League of confederations at the moment. It can get better but there's little that CONCACAF can do about this until more of the national federations find ways to drum up interest and produce better talent. I do agree the event should move around more, but keep in mind why it's usually in the States: Money, and much of it corporate. After all, there's a reason the Mexican national team plays most of its non-competitive matches in the US, as they make almost twice as much per match that way. Canada and Mexico could host a Gold Cup and the event will do fine, even if they don't quite make the same money as they do in the states, but beyond that will take some doing. After that you run into logistics from other hosting options about venues being smaller, not as nice (ie: less corporate money), and less likely to draw as many traveling fans. Considering that CONCACAF is already hamstrung in the marketability of their region via limited assets, is it any wonder they have their marquee tournament 2x per 4 years and always host it where they'll make the most money? So the event should be moved and CONCACAF should find ways to spur investment in the game at other nations, but until those nations show initiatives of their own the region will always be among the weakest going.
