Waiting for the league to drop the hammer on Toronto FC Fans..... CCL: Donovan's 89th-minute goal lifts Galaxy to draw with Toronto FC
maybe not but since it happend once again to that Whinny biitch I be the MLS will comeout against them. Plus it's a team that doesn't want to play fair with the new Supporters Council so I bet the MLS will put some pressure on them.
before we begin to sound like conspiracy theorists: MLS has nothing to do with any fan/player/team punishment. its a CONCACAF sanctioned tournament, so MLS has no say. for example, when Blanco was suspended for a fight in a US Open Cup game he was banned for a year by USSF (who sanctions USOC). he was allowed to play in the next league game, because one had nothing to do with another. same thing when Blanco was banned by CONMEBOL for the riot he started during a Copa Libertadores game. he was suspended from all CONMEBOL tournaments for a year (Libertadores, Copa America, SudAmericana), but it didn't effect his ability to suit up for a FIFA WC qualifier for example. hey wait, i see a pattern here..... if CONCACAF wishes to punish they can levy a financial fine, make Toronto play behind closed doors if they advance or make them move the home game to a nuetral venue. MLS can't do sht and if they do all Toronto would have to do is appeal with FIFA and it would be so easily over turned.
FC Dallas Supporters were suspended after CCL match last year. We are not talking about regional rules for player status (which are defined) we are talking about league sanctions on their fans which MLS can obviously control at their leisure. My opinion; if nothing is done then the inconsitency that is MLS continues and the Houston suspension was nothing more than a publicity stunt.
Doesn't matter. It would for players (suspensions and such) because those rules are defined by FIFA and the region. However, the league can levy sanctions on teams for their behavior (and subsequently fans) at their leisure. A Group of FCD fans were suspended after CCL matches last year.
It does matter because it's a big difference if the Dallas FO sanctions one of their Groups (what they are playing in in that case is irrelevant) or the League sanctioned them for a Non League event. I believe it was their FO that did that.
sure they can, but weren't those Dallas sanctions levied against particular fans who broke a stadium rule and a local ordinance and not the entire Dallas SGs? big difference. FIFA can't save yo ass from the local cops. that ban originated from the the FCD club not MLS.
They were indeed Dallas FO sanctions. A team owned solely by MLS. The point is they can certainly sanction the fan group There are no regulations, regional standards, FIFA rules around the subject. I would even argue that throwing things at an international match has the potential of creating a bigger issue for MLS image-wise than a normal MLS game. Hey, my problem with the whole situation is that MLS made such a big deal of talking about the suspension in interviews, letters, press events, etc . . . all I want is consistent decision making. If you are serious about curving this type of behavior then clamp down everywhere. If that was not their goal, they should have made the decision more quietly. For the record, I have the same problem with their disciplinary committee and decisions there. It's like they flip coins in a smoke filled room before they decide on any action.
Have we had another example of one Clubs SG's (or random Fans allegedly) setting off Smoke Bombs at three Away Games in one season? Then of course there is what the Don said: Which only he knows what he really meant by that but since the question was about Dynamo Fans and Sanctions this seems to indicate that apparently the League felt the need to intervene. Was it because the Self Policing was less effective than the excuse making or because of the number of incidents or the event the last one occurred at or a combination thereof? I don't know the answer to that but until we see what the process is going to be from now on it's a bit harsh to say there is no consistency when the examples of allegedly "comparable behavior" that are presented do not meet the same criteria (in number of offenses) as the ones that the Dynamo Groups were actually punished for. Let's see where this thing goes...
Didn't say there was no consistency . . yet. But we have had teams throw beer cans, bobbleheads, batteries (us), streamers (which are illegal now), get tasered and arrested at away matches (TFC also), etc, etc, etc. Don't assume I have a problem with our sanctions. But if this is MLS's response, then I want to see it consistently applied. That is all. If not then where do we draw the line. Empty beer cans are ok, full beer cans bad. AAA batteries are ok but AA bad?
As do I and that will be where the rubber meets the road. It will also remain to be seen if the League starts issuing punishments to the individual teams in order to push the teams to be more stringent in dealing with their own groups. Kicker has some great examples just in the last few days of teams revoking their own SG's privileges at home for the rest of the season and the Fed bringing fines from relatively small 7500 Euro to the say what 100000 Euro range on the individual Club. Odds of excuses being made by the SG's are definitely higher than the Odds that the SG's are going to pay those fines for the Clubs.
Lots of Smoke bombs in MLS stadiums during week 1. Including smoke bombs in HDC by Chivas supporters. Timbers army had big time Green smoke after each goal they scored. DCU united supporters had smoke.
Not sure about the others and if they were in fact Smoke Bombs but IIRC it is permitted in Portland for Timbers Army through their FO in designated areas. Any away SG's with Smoke?
How were the Dynamo Supporters treated in LA for the Chivas match? Anything different/extra they had to deal with after the MLS sanctions?
