Be that as it may, Dallas had specific complaints about field conditions at the Starfire complex, whether it be the grass left long or the turf not watered down before the game, or the size of the field which is just barely fifa size, it really doesn't matter IMHO. Seattle refuses to play a road game in the open cup, I saw somewhere that over the three years they have won the oc, they have played two road games, both in Portland, both when the timbers were still in the USL. But given the Sounders performance on the road in the real playoffs, I can see why they are so adamant about having something they can show their hordes of hipster fanboys as a sign of progress.

That being said, I look forward to beating Seattle this year, their fans are clowns and I think they made a huge mistake trading away two decent players for a washed up striker whose last team was 1st english division side Preston north end where he scored a grand total of 0 goals in 18 appearances. You better hope you guys get Mark Kadlicek as your referee again this year for our games, he helped you guys out alot last year against us.

Well shut my mouth, Seattle has won an important (semi) game on the road. Now if they can score a goal on the road in the mls playoffs, they'll have another talking point(stat) for their internet warriors to throw around.

Unfortunately, I don't make it to enough games to have had much interaction with other teams' fans, and I've never been to an away game (i'm poor, so sue me), so my like or dislike of other MLS teams is almost completely based on the team itself. So here goes:

#2 team: Portland - I like the way they play and I love John Spencer. I think he and Jason Kreis are very similar and I like how passionate he is about his team.

    Top 5 hated teams:

1- Colorado - hands down, nobody even close. I know that the rivalry hasn't been as heated the past couple years, but it still boils my blood knowing that they won a championship in similar fashion to RSL the year after, and then followed it up with a sucky season, whereas RSL completely dominated the season after they won it. This showed that the cRapids' win was a fluke, and RSL's wasn't.

2- LA Galaxy - I think they are the antithesis of RSL. Big spending, big talking, needs to have MLS's lips surgically removed from their butt, and a coach with the biggest ego on the planet who thinks he's God's gift to soccer.

3- NYRB - biggest under-achieving team ever, and yet the league LOVES them.

4- Atiba Harris - still the only player that I have ever seen subbed in and subbed out in the same game without getting injured (July 29, 2006 against DC United)

5- Houston - why do we always lose to them?

Well, I mean, I wasn't going to say that but YEAH! What's up with messing with your rightfully earned title? I mean, everyone here has their role. You are the guy who posts wacky stuff and drunken cursing, 15 is the guy who posts plaintive whines, I'm the curmudgeon, Ismitje is the cool parent who lets us stay up too late as long as we don't get out of hand, etc. Now this interloper comes along and is totally messing up our system! Hrumph!

2nd favorite is the Timbers, just because I spent the first few years of my life in Oregon...and I love that Alaska Airlines commercial with Spencer (seems to be a lot of Timbers love here for some reason...)

    Hated:
    1a - LAG
1b - Rapids (I know we have taken the RMC the last several years, but these are usually good games. I'll never forget going from feeling like crap, 0-2, to feeling ecstatic, 2-2, over just a couple of minutes of stoppage time. Awesome moment for Saborio. The look on those Rapids fans faces...priceless.)
3 - Seattle (I started out with a lot of good will for this team, but an unbelievably obnoxious minority of their fans has spoiled it.)
    4 - NYRB
5 - ...Its a stretch at this point

Right, I know Starfire sucks, my only point was that I thought it was common knowledge it was an artificial surface. Pretty much everyone complains about it that plays there. FIFA may have approved it but it is a kiddie league facility.

It was a good trade in that neither Fucito nor Neagle were going to see time this year. I know Seattle fans were apoplectic about it but I only see potential upside and no meaningful downside. Fucito is as good as he'll ever be (not very) and Neagle would be 4th in the depth chart this year. At worst, Seattle will have another traffic cone filling the forward position like last year. If the reclamation project pans out, they have a great forward for the money. Seattle did pick up some good talent off-season.

I move around a lot. If I had to pick a team where I spent a lot of time these days, it would be either NYRB (hell no) or Earthquakes (*snort*). I used to live in LA but am not a big fan of LA's style. I even did a brief stint in Seattle. I primarily follow the two teams in MLS that I think have the most elegant, technical style in MLS: RSL and Seattle. I don't make any of the games for either team and I don't obsess about it, I just like good quality soccer. If you are looking for a homer Seattle fan, I'm not it.

lol, welcome to the BS RSL family, where ripping on each other is common life and if you dont have some thick skin you might not like it. but if you stick around there are some pretty smart people here who like to drop their RSL knowledge for the rest of us to enjoy.

    THE SKY IS FALLING!
    THE SKY IS FALLING!

I had to look up what the hell plaintive meant

and Callgolf, stick around, my introduction to this board was 10 times worse than yours. See, I thought these guys were a bunch of morons who didn't know a soccer ball from a basketball. I'm pretty sure prolific still fits this bill, but the rest have proven me wrong.

    Examples of my time here:
    - I ripped the midget Rimando apart and said that Seitz was the future.
    - I wanted Kreis to get fired in 2008 and was actually slightly disappointed we made the playoffs.
    - I was the old man in the 50 years married bickering couple with this poster named canyonvue.

Your lesson: just do a little research before typing. You can run your mouth all you want (we do it all the time) but don't back it with at least a simple wiki search

How can anyone hate New York? They are the anti-LA.

LA expolits the rules and put together winning teams. NY does the same thing and not only fails: they do it in a spectacular manner. It is pure soccer-themed ntertainment.

After Donovan and Beckham sorted out their differences LA became a team. Each player has a role and they fill it. On the field they are unselfish. NY has a DP announcing to the world that the team would win if the rest of the team was like him.

They may not be loveable losers but I still have to grudgingly respect anyone who agrees to come to work wearing a red bra.

NYRB = New York Red Bras; how can you hate that???

Yeah, I am here to share some thoughts, I've got very thick skin, you guys can rip away if I say something stupid. Last year was so unbelieveable from an injury and referee/league standpoint, my wife was threatening divorce after the Vancouver game where Warner got a red card saving a goal with his shoulder, I was literally going to have a stroke I was so angry. So I figured I would find somewhere to get out the frustrations, a little catharsis. Not sure where it came from, but the league/referees really turned against our team last year, almost as if to slap us down for becoming too successful. Culminated with the LA game in my opinion, the Omar gonzalez penalty was absolute highway robbery, but I had a feeling the MLS would pull something like that.

So I am here to bitch and bad mouth Seattle and LA.

while I'm not going to argue, per say, that we had our fair share of bad decisions from refs. To put the blame on them and the league for RSL falling short is harsh.

3 things really deserve the blame for 2011 being what it was
    - those ********ers from Monterrey
    - that asshat Mondaini
    - team injuries

If you have ever officiated a game you know how fast (even at the youth levels) it is and how much the ref is being asked to see with (shocking) human eyes. Cut the guy some slack. When they screw up, point it out, but don't blame RSL falling short of a trophy on the 3 stooges. It's beating a 70000 year old dead horse.

We'll bitch refs out all the time. UP has a special ability to make half his posts look like: **** ****** ***** ***** ******ing ref.
However, you have to accept the reality that they don't determine the full game (contrary to popular belief). Taking accountability and admitting the flaws are key to actually being able to discuss this team, club, organization, etc.

    I dunno....

I reffed over 500 games as a center or line and I'm pretty sure we determined the outcome of at least 480. At least that is what I was told.

Actually I'm considering doing just that, though not with my former employer. Problem is my wife only lets me have one soccer-related extracurricular, and I enjoy my current RSL gig too much to drop. I thought about pushing her to let me have two soccer jobs, but she's letting me train for an Ironman right now so I don't think that would be wise.

2nd: Portland. They work hard, play attractive soccer, don't run their mouths like the prima donna teams, and their fans... well, they're something unique here and I like seeing it.

Hate list. Well, since I like the occasional hate slinging over in the rivalries thread here's some more:

LA: has superseded my hate for the cRapids. I guess you can't blame the league for completely rewriting the rules over and over again to suit them and NY, but it doesn't mean you have to agree with them working on an uneven playing field. Yes, we could spend that much too but almost no teams in the league are bankrolled to be able to do that so I wouldn't exactly call that fair.

CO: I think the whole stadium can feel the hate when these two teams get together. It doesn't matter the league standings, these two teams harbor no positive feelings for each other.

NY: Let's see, 2008 comes to mind. Also similar reasons to LA; difference being that they haven't bought success just yet. Give them time because they have the money.

Crew: Horrible new advertising slogan for a very irritating team.

Revs: Sure they're crap, but their offensive style of play and thuggish captain make for a hated team of mine.

Honorable mention goes to any team RSL is playing at any given moment. I'd probably be taunting the GK of a high school team if RSL were playing them.

Have to go with Portland as my second favorite just because their fans are so passionate (came out in large numbers back in the A-League or whatever that league is called now).

For most hated in no particular order

    1. Galaxy
    2. Pink Cows (both just too rich for their own good)
    3. Houston (lots of bitter games between our teams over the years)
    4. Chivas (hated them since we joined the league)
    5. Crapids (if anything because we are rivals, but have to admit we've really had some good fortune and lots of last gasp results against them and they are overdue for some luck in their direction)
