Maybe I should have just asked who people's second favorite team was, and left it at that. My goal was not to ruffle feathers, but I should have known better.
2nd - Kinda liking DC right now, with Divies now gone. Would be Orlando City if they could just get in... Top 5 Hated -Rapids - I also have an irrational dislike of the entire state. -LA Beckhams - Is there a whinier piece that exerts so much influence over refs in all of MLS? Rest of the team has followed suit. More for their mouths than the games against RSL. -Rapids - x2 - Sounders - dive-y, that fanbase, last year's Keller worship rubbed me the wrong way - Columbus? - stretching here
Yeah, discussing who our rival is is so out of place in the context of 'top 5 teams we hate'. To each his or her own. Beat LA is still this year's anthemic dirge.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I used to think Denver would probably be an alright place to live. Now I'm not so sure.
I think I might have intertwined the two as well in one of my comments. I guess who our rival(s) are is a matter of opinion, which is totally fine.
I'm a little late to the party but, here goes: 2nd: Portland (I can't really explain why, but now that cooper is gone, They could be pretty exciting) Hate: 1: LA - 'nuff has already been said about why everyone hates them 2: cRapids - It has been said before, but I too irrationally hate everything about that state. 3: Seattle - Quality team, ugly jerseys, and ***hole fans 4: Sporting KC - It's not that I don't like rugby, but I thought this was Major League SOCCER. 5: NYRB - pretty much everything about them except Agudelo, i'd love to see that kid get a chance somewhere else.
Heh, I feel the same way about SLC. (Southern Utah has way too many great National Parks to hate the whole state.)
I'd step over my own mother for a chance to live in Denver. But I'm currently tied to a job in West Texas, so any city closer than 6 hours to something that could reasonably be called a mountain looks like a topographical paradise to me.
While I don't as a rule cheer for other MLS sides, my No. 2 favorite club would easily be the Timbers. Their fans were total class at last year's away match (can't say the same for either LA club, although Seattle fans treated us well at the MLS Cup trip so fair play to them). The only correct answer for no. 1 most-hated is the Crapids. Have y'all forgotten where you came from? 1. Crapids 2. Gals 3. NYRB 4. Seattle 5. Dallas - for winning every game we needed them to lose and losing every game we needed them to win in '09-10. I'd agree with this sentiment. The rivalry has definitely dulled with them coming out on top overall last season, but there's definitely ill-will — I get comments on the street while wearing RSL gear in LA. Sandwiched in between the two seasons you mentioned, we ended their unbeaten streak in 09-10 with Javi's totally onside beauty.
I am surprised by the number of RSL fans that have another MLS team to follow. For me it is only RSL. 'Nuf said!
I don't claim Portland as my "other MLS team" Rather, if RSL wasn't in the league, they are who I would likely pull for. Nobody in this league comes close to my passion for RSL. I'm sure this isn't unique to myself, either.
i'm the same way in the passion department. while i like the timbers and really enjoy going to games, i'm definitely not as passionate about them as i am with RSL. i defend RSL to the bitter end, i get happy, angry, sad, depressed, ecstatic....the full gamut of emotions with them. with the timbers, i'm happy when they win, kind of indifferent when they lose (unless its controversial or to a team i hate).
2nd Favorite: Philadelphia (no real reason why) Least Favorites 1. Columbus (Aside form their awful play style which I hate so dearly and our history with them, I cant stand their awful motto's "America's Hardest Working Team" and now "Dare to be Massive") 2. LA (Wallets) 3. Monterrey (Humberto Suazo) 4. cRaprids (I'd hate them more if they ever actually beat us) 5. NY (2008)
1 - LAG- Absolute disengenous shenanigans on the roster/salary cap front, referee favoritism(Omar Gonzalez dive against us last year), surprisingly boring style of play, bunch of douchebags whom announcers deem to be quality players like Mike McGee, Todd Dunivant who would be nobodies if they weren't on this team. I have been to three games at HDC and I can tell you that no one inflates their numbers like the Galaxy, their crowds are very overstated and very pedestrian from my estimation, crowd support apart from the supporter sections is comical. We are talking about a professional organization whose stadium is on the campus of a University to whom they kowtow on a noise/traffic agreement for college students, I mean, they are bush league. Last thing, Brian Dunseth loves to tout the GALS, every chance he get he talks them up and I absolutely loathe Brian Dunseth. Why is he still loosely associated with our team, the amount of sh*t that he talks about RSL is ridiculous? 2 - Seattle - Plastic pitch, diving clowns, league favoritism because they make alot of signs, Starfire Open Cup field changing shenanigans(they get to choose depending on the speed of the team coming to play them in the open cup whether they want to play them at C-Link or their training facility at Starfire, then they leave the grass long to keep Dallas from running on them), boatloads of internet heroes that don't really understand the game and feel it necessary to attack RSL. 3 - Columbus - For some reason they are a bogey team at times, they play very physical like Houston, try to turn it into a slug fest. Boring style of play, dwindling fan base, incompetent front office. MLS should move Columbus. 4 - Dallas - Another bogey team, we can't beat them down there, be it the heat or the amazing crowds they draw. Their players are unbelieveably whiny, complaining, make me want to vomit. 5 - Colorado - I feel sorry for these guys, they don't have much in the way of fans and their FO is totally disorganized. Hasn't been much of a rivalry lately, I actually don't mind the Denver area, hard to say I have everything about the place, but they are our regional rivals so I figured I would oblige.
As an RSL fan I would feel remiss excluding them from any hate list I create, and I'm not alone, I think I'm the 3rd person on this thread to list them.
Leave the grass long? Are they supposed to mow artificial turf? All of Seattle's fields are synthetic, both Starfire and C-Link. I am pretty sure that "grass" does not grow.
Starfire has four grass fields, grass grows. Back to your forum, Seattle fans don't think, they just post.
The soccer stadium at Starfire is artificial turf, and that is where the Open Cup is played at Starfire. Yes, four of the 12 fields (I had to google it) are grass but none of the primary facilities are. Even I knew this, mostly because everyone bitches about the Starfire facilities during Open Cup. Apparently you googled, saw "grass fields", didn't bother to understand what you were actually reading, and then decided to post something pompous. Or maybe you were trying to demonstrate irony. Until just now, I had no idea Starfire had any grass fields. I just know we like to bitch about their plastic pitch incessantly. (I, for one, am indifferent about the whole playing surface issue.)
