At least it's not the other knee. If he re-injured that one, it could be very very bad. Reoccurring injuries to an already damaged knee could end his career. We just need him back to full health for the qualifiers in the summer because he is pretty much a lock when healthy. He is our best CB imo.

Unfortunately a pattern is starting to form. Not a good sign for the big guy.

It is the other knee, and it's only eight weeks. Not too terrible. He hasn't approached Sam Bowie, Bill Walton, Greg Oden, Brandon Roy levels yet. God, i feel bad for Trailblazers fans.

I already asked this question in his YA thread, but does anyone know when the Portuguese league season ends? Isn't it sooner than normal this year because of Euro 2012?

My worry is that Gooch won't be able to get in any more games with Sporting before our first WC qualifier in June.

If espn is correct it appears their last league game is May 13th.

Neither Gooch, Boca, or Dolo will be on the WC roster in '14. My long held assertion. This news adds a little sliver of new support for my assertion.

Agree with Boca and Dolo. But if Gooch doesn't make WC 14 it will only be because of injuries, not because of diminishing returns.

Out of those 3 we need Gooch the most simply b/c he can score off restarts - and that may be how we have to win some games

Isn't that how like 25% of games are won or something crazy like that?

Our best finisher off restarts isn't Gooch, though he does draw a crowd. It's definitely Bocanegra. That said, I'll be shocked-and-a-half if Bocanegra is still our starting CB in 2014 at the age of 35. I won't be shocked if a 32 year-old Gooch is (nor will I be if he's not... he's injury-prone).

this is a traditional and typical pattern .. all national teams need to have multiple top level players at each position.

Injuries happen just like war, death, and taxes ...

we cannot get locked in on certain players because this just happens.

recall Tab Ramos, Ben Olson, JOB and a host of other players who had injuries that limited their career impacts.

JK needs to be grooming the replacements for Donovan and Dempsey and should also be looking at a suite of strikers (since we have none that are all that good - internationally speaking that is).

Those two days in October 2009... those awful, awful two days. The tie with Costa Rica notwithstanding.

If Gooch and Davies get through those two days unscathed, we play in the 2010 World Cup semifinal against Netherlands. I believe that 100%.

DeMerit had a fine World Cup, don't get me wrong. But he was no Gooch before the injury. And without Davies... we started Robbie Findley against Ghana. Robbie freaking Findley. And he was subbed off at halftime for... Benny Feilhaber.

I weep for what might have been.
