20 year old Simon Mrsic is in Croatia on trial with first division club NK Zadar. Here is a little more about him. He was born in the USA in san francisco with a bosnian background his father Ivan mrsic played in Europe in the former Yugoslavian first division and in USA`s NASL he had a successful career. With Simon's talent and the people he knows he could be one of USA next big talent. He played for San Diego surfs academy, I saw him play in nationals and also inthe bay area. He is a phenominal player with an excellent mind for the game to go along with his speed. When he was younger in Los Angeles he won golden boot two years in a row in all of Los Angeles county for his age group. it is great to hear another american playing in europe and the path he is on. I am his former coach and trust me this kid has talent no doubt in my mind he will play pro lets just hope he comes back to USAs MLS!!!

Update on Simon Mrsic, Last I heard He is training with RNK SPLIT. The trial in Zadar didn't work out because of bad weather (snow) and shortage of days before the season. He told me: "training in Split has been going very well the the pace of football in Europe is very fast, much faster then in the USA. Practices are intence twice a day every day except game day and Sunday. If i could stay and play then of course I would love to play in Europe especially with RNK SPLIT. If not coming back and playing in the U.S for me would be a dream of mine. I am learning alot in Europe every day and hope to continue to gain valuable experiance. Only time will tell if I stay and play in Europe"

An update on Simon. He is back in the United States and will be having a tryout with FC Dallas in the MLS pre-season.

Here's a report from the hometown paper:

The 25-year-old soccer player from Oakland California joined the Serbian SuperLiga club FK Bačka Bačka Palanka in the second half of this season and played his first competitive match for the club this past weekend.

    ...

His father, Ivan Mršić, was a famous professional soccer player in the former Yugoslavia before he moved to America and played for the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers in 1978. His father’s name recognition helped him get a trial and earn contracts with the Croatian first division side NK Osijek in 2014 and Bosnian first division side FK Rudar Prijedor for the 2015-2016 season. Mršić, however, picked up a knee injury at Osijek and a severe ankle injury at Prijedor which held him back from making the first team for either club.
