Well, Dempsey needs some service, in his position, and Fulham lost the midfield battle for most of the second half (except the last 10 minutes).

What was Jol thinking with that starting lineup?

That sound you hear is the crowd of wannabe contrarians jumping off the "Landon's Overrated" bandwagon.

I expected the quality of football to be better but you could clearly see why both teams are at the bottom half of the league table. What happens to Everton when LD goes back to my Gals?

Nope. I still think he is softer than tissue. Good player, though.

With some luck, Osman and Rodwell will be back by then and fit enough to keep the shop.

Good game from Landon, disappointing from Clint, but he needs Zamora to play off, AJ was useless. Timmy had little to do. Fun to see the 4 Americans all out there.

Unfortunately, there's just not much he can do. His hands are financially tied.

the whole donovan v. dempsey thing was all marketing bullshit of course, but if you think Donovan's entire career legacy will be based upon a few premiership games, you are either not watching MLS, not watching the national team, or have your head stuck up your ass.

It is entirely possible to compare players in different leagues, especially when they already play on the national team together, this game should not change your opinion of who's better. Still, this was reasonably fun to watch.

Yep, as much an American as some guy from New Jersey who gets his own threads. :D

Plus he's Fulham's best player and has been for years....

Donovan improves the team while Dempsey is a game winner. Impossible to compare the two and better to just have both of them on the team. Both vital to whatever team they play a part of, would criticize any coach for benching them on the big games.

Well said. Donovan had an up and down game with some bad giveaways and some strange decisions, but his 2 crosses/assists were critical to the game's outcome and they both had to be pinpoint for the goals to come off. He was also dangerous other times. Dempsey kind of disappeared in this one...it wasn't just Zamora he was missing to play off of but Dembele as well, who's also a real threat for Fulham and makes things happen. Really glad FSC picked this one up just for us Americans to view. A lot of fun.

I think Clint was just eclipsed, in part, by the awesomeness of having to play against his pal. Onion Eyes respects Five Head hugely, and it shows. Some day in the future the time between 2005 and 2010 will be called the "D&D Period" of American soccer.

I have been warned by the moderators about being sarcastic. So I am not being sarcastic. By what normal standards do you consider Landon soft? And how can someone soft score 5 goals in the World Cup?

Landon had a good game. When he was invisible for the first 15 minutes of the match I was a bit concerned for him but he sure was fantastic from that point on.

Great players. (Both Landon and Dempsey)

I'm waiting for him to score, hopefully he gets a goal eventually, not a hat trick or brace like Clint just one goal to show his quality

With 5 goals in 3 World Cups, Donovan is up there with:

ZiZou, Morientes, Milla, Neeskens, Romario, Garrincha, Zico, Beckenbauer, Podolski, Schiaffino, Platini, Altobelli, Larsson, Sneijder and Butragueño.

Landon critics: suck on that one!

I just want to say that people are being great, for the most part, about being supportive of both Clint & Donovan. Let's just ignore the one post that is not.

Great match for LD. Not so great for Clint, but I guess he's allowed a quiet match every now and then.

I think its funny how bigsoccer always complains about American announcers but on an everton forum they're all talking about how much they liked Wynalda and Dellacamera.

Most American announcers do suck. Wynalda, who I like as an announcer, rarely announces American games.
