Well Albirex had no chance playing like that. How did they get past Urawa and Beleza?

Maybe their best player was #5 Kawamura, who was also ther best-looking player on the field, and perhaps in the whole league. It would be great if she made the Olympics!

Two INAC players got awards, Takase and I think Ji So-Yun - anyone know?

LOL, I wonder what Kawasumi will say about her home-mate Tanaka later today... :D

Edit: now going to sleep a little: it's quite 5:00 in the morning here in Italy!
But it's the first day of 2012, so it's ok going to sleep at 5:00 :p
And I've got to watch at least the final of this beautiful All Japan Women's Cup 2011. INAC takes it all this year, people.

Good night and see you tomorrow (or better: see you later today, lol). ^__^

I searched Goal a few times and I still do not see the English version. May I ask how did you get to interview her? I know that Goal is mostly written by fans (you know that this board wrote material before the World Cup win?). Also was it in person, or by email?

Kumagai is part of what I am watching now, these two videos:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHmJpER61Kw
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjEkuTI4FmI

Things I see, apart from hundreds of 7-year old girls playing soccer:

    Ando has amazing ball skills
    Same explains her "scurry" style
Kumagai seems amazed at 1:00 in the 2nd video - was this a question about favorite NT male players? She seems a happy person (change from last July).

Just watching Ando's technical explanation at 4:00 in the 2nd video about shooting hard. Really a beautiful video, thanks anyone for any interesting translated points.

    Thank you for those links!

Someone mentioned earlier the video about Yuki in Germany.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqd3FhG0YG0"]video about Yuki in Germany[/ame]

They asked her teammate Inka Wesely and team captain Jenny Zietz about her. Wesely said that she was always in a good mood in practice, and Zietz said that she never got tired and that nothing was "impossible" for her; she'd always make it possible. She also commented favourably on how fast Yuki was learning German.

Thanks for the insighful info Micol. It really seems like in Germany and in Potsdam Yuki manages to find all the serenity, the good-humour and the joy that she doesn't always find when playing for the National Team...
Probably if Nadeshiko could always have Yuki in the same mood she is when in Potsdam, all Japan's play would benefit of it.
Although I have to say that Yuki seemed quite in a good mood anyway, some days ago, at the 2012 uniform presentation, when she kept molesting Saki Kumagai with her jokes... :D

I am happy that yesterday I managed to watch most of the All Japan Women's Championship final, with also the interesting post-match stuff...
It seems it was true that 32 yo Miwa Yonetsu was going to retire from football, as we had read on Kawasumi's blog some days ago: This final was her last game, so team-mates let her lift the cup, like a captain, and fans tributed her a moving goodbye, with a big banner with her number #14 on it (starting from about 11':30" of this video)(by the way, am I wrong or she managed to score a last goal for INAC in one of the latest All Japan's cup matches? Maybe the one vs Elfen Sayama):

    http://www.youtube.com/user/moukoko24#p/u/1/jaqQ4ekoT0g

Nadeshiko Japan players wish good year to anyone: do they say anything interesting, beyond obviously promising to win the gold medal in London? :p For instance, why Ando bursts in laugh at 1'47"? Or does Maruyama say anything meaningful about her recovering from injury, later in the video? I really like Sakaguchi constant seriousness and the fast rate of her speaking... :D

    http://www.youtube.com/user/moukoko24#p/u/1/jaqQ4ekoT0g

Beyond this New Year Message, I join myself to mumf requests to know if there is anything interisting also in the cute "Questions from Kids" videos.
Anyway, kudos to Ando and Sameshima for the technique and skill that they show in the video. I especially liked shoeless Same "dancing" around the ball...
I guess Nadeshiko can sport some of the more technical players in the female game.

Lol, no, I didn't even know it was planned: when did it happen? How did it go?

Edit: ok, nevermind, I reviewed all that on the moukoko24's channel (link below) and it's indeed super-cool... :D

Meanwhile I found there what I think is a fundamental video, about a very hard problem that will occur in the next months: member selection for London 2012 team. :p
It's a long time we started talking about it, here on this thread, but, month by month, the time for painful choices it's going to come. Let's face the problem: 18 members for Olympics team vs 21 for WWC. Assuming that Norio will probably bring 2 GKs (minimum number, by the rules), instead of 3 (and so probably Kaihori and Fukumoto, leaving Yamago home), that means that at least 2 WWC's team members will be "fired" in London. Unless Norio wants to bring some other good player emerging from next year's Nadeshiko League or some young star from U-20 team: in that case even more WWC's players should be cut.
Thus, now, two questions for all the people in this thread: 1) what Sasaki has to say about it? (I am obviously asking our japanese friends to translate for us the video linked below :p)
    2) Assuming that for London you have to leave home at least 2 members of the WWC's team (that's the minimum number of sure cuts) who would you leave home? It's no easy choice for sure and, anyway you turn around this, it's an hard, cruel one, beacuse quite all of the Nadeshiko players did their part in Germany and they are all very good players, and they'd all deserve the joy to be in the Olympic team.

To start the discussion, I'll tell you my names at the moment: currently I'd leave home Maruyama (beacuse there is still no clue if she can recover decently and be fit and strong for next summer) and Takase (because Nadeshiko Japan has still an over-abundance of good FWs and offensive midfielders, and I don't think she'd get room to play anyway). What would you say? Who are your 2, or even 3, names to cut?

Please, discuss, because this is a very important subject in my opinion.

Norio says that he already handed in 50 members list to JFA, and will reduce the number from 50 - 30 - 25 -18 in due order this year, and also says European-based players' experiences are important.

From that standpoint, you shouldn't reduce from 21 to 18, but should think of basic members first.

European-based five players plus indispensable members (Sawa, Miyama, Ohno, Kawasumi, Iwashimizu, Sakaguchi, Kinga) plus two GKs go to 14.

So the rest is 4, and about it anyone is possible.
    The candidates are numerous.

But I remember now Norio also says that versatility is important.
It means he may choose players who can play in various positions.

Your reasonment is very sound, so let's see what are the team's needs. Although Sasaki rightly said that versatility is very important, I guess the team needs at least another "pure" defender in its rooster, in case some member of the rock-solid-fixed defense-line (Kinga-Iwashimizu-Kumagai-Sameshima) has to be subbed (by the way, I hope this won't happen, because this defense-line is one of the major points of force of this team, in my opinion).
Currently the only "pure" defender in the NT scene is Yano, so maybe she's a lock-in too. Tanaka is more of an hybrid defense-midfield (and also forward, given the recent goal?) and that could be a plus in Sasaki's book. I guess also Kamionobe is very versatile. I've seen recently Kawamura play in the All Japan's Cup and, although she's listed as a midfielder, I guess she could decently play in a pure defender position. So we've got plenty of choices for defensive midfielders, but, correct me if I am wrong, just one "real" defender. Any name from the L-league that could be considered here?

We've seen some names that could be listed both as defender or midfielder... apart from the indispensible names and the WWC subs, no-other midfielder name comes to my mind that could play in NT except maybe Chiaki Minamiyama from INAC and especially Manami Nakano from Belle, that is a player that I like a lot and maybe could stand a chance at international level. I am not sure if Ayu Tanaka is old enough for the big stage, although she's really good: let her have her under-20 World Cup, in my opinion, and don't bother to call her in London just to sit on the bench (I've got same opinion for forwards Yokoyama and Kyokawa, although River Dance Kyo in particular could make me change my mind if she'll have a great 2012 season in her club).

In the forward department, there are plenty of good players, but no-one that can really guarantee a significant amount of goals. I'd dare to say that Iwabuchi is a lock-in too, though. I know that the international stage is different from Nadeshiko League, but Japan can't really do without a forward who's scoring at that rate.
If the european players are automatically in for Sasaki, I guess there could be still a place up for a forward (maybe! Or maybe not): and in that case there are a lot of players that could run for it. Just to throw a list off the top of my head: Maruyama, if she fully recovers from injury; Arakawa, if she fully recovers from injury; Yamaguchi, if she fully recovers from injury (any news from her?); then, sifting through last season's top scorers of Nadeshiko League: obvious Takase, very good Urawa's Chinatsu Kira, Beleza's Asano Nagasato, Belle's Matsuoka, maybe even Niigata's Sugasawa.
Quite anyone of these forward names could maybe make it, depending on how they play during next months. But no-one of them really stands as having a lot more chances than the other ones.

It's totally true that a place for a forward could be gained if Sasaki finds a defensive midfielder that can reliably cover both roles in his eyes.

Do you really think Kawasumi has become indispensable? I am sure there will be two FWs less. Well........on second thoughts, she surely will make the squad, but I doubt she will be a starter.

This was a video without ANY smiles. I thought Ando was close to tears with worry, and Kumagai's eyes were wide open too. Still I expect both of them are certain to go.

If he mentioned versatility, then Tanaka appears to have that, even if it makes for an ever more INAC-like team. Also her goals in September helped Japan qualify, when others couldn't score. She may knock out Yano, who is getting older (although I think she has the best long-range shot on the team).

I think Iwabuchi was quite good in Germany, and can only get better, she will be there. I have news on Yamaguchi, she is not giving up yet, here !

Lol, mumf, apart from the fact that I am now totally persuaded that Kawasumi is indispensable (especially after her wonderful end of seson; and also, speaking about goals in the qualification tournament in september, do you remember about her contribution?), are you aware that if Norio (and being Norio, rightfully venerated as he deserves) would dare NOT to nominate Kawasumi for Olympics, he would be burnt alive on a stake in front of the crowd? :D
Kawasumi's name is out of the question...

Well, to be fair, at least Sameshima can't help but still smile a little: it's because she's a certain lock-in too, or because she's an irresistible smiley person? :p Speaking about french-based players, did you notice how sexy Rumi Utsugi did look in the video? She looks even sexier than on the pitch...

Oh, about Saki: I said that I am no more worried about her weight, but I've got still some concerns about her diet, because her acne seemed to have worsened. Too many fat foods at Christmas? :D Well, just joking: I know (alas for personal experience) that at Saki's age acne is hormonal and you can't do much about it...

Unluckily Iwabuchi couldn't be really relevant in Germany, except in a pair occasions (New Zealand and last minutes of the final match), but I agree she should be sent to London.
Thanks very much for the news about Yamaguchi. Her real battle now shouldn't be going to London as much as coming back to high-level football. Anything else is in addition.

I have no doubt about Kawasumi. I might say so far as to possibly a little bit more indispensable than Ohno.

As for Iwabuchi, I'm secretly thinking she competes with Yokoyama for the last seat.

I did notice that Kyokawa, Nakada and Yokoyama were featured in the "selection" video - I was shocked - does Sasaki mention them? Even in the u-19 AFC, Yokoyama sometimes does not start or play 90 minutes.

I mention a little doubt about Kawasumi only because she featured prominently in just one World Cup game. In the AFC, she was indeed good.

What do you think of the chances now for:

    Miyamoto,
    Yamaguchi,
    Yano,
    Tanaka (INAC)
    Kamionobe
    Asano N

Mmm, Tomomi Miyamoto... I had quite forgotten that Sasaki had showed some kind of a return of interest for her this autumn... The fact that she plays for Iga FC Kunoichi doesn't help her visibility, especially for people like me, living outside of Japan. Do japanese friends have some more news about her and about her chances to return in the National Team?

    Briefly, about the others:
Yamaguchi: as I said, it's a question of how much she can recover. It's anyway hard that she gets back at her standards in time.
Yano: she's a real defender. This very fact makes her chances high in my opinion.
Tanaka: extreme versatility is the ace up her sleeve. I'd bet she'll be in London.
Kamionobe: in the end of season in Nadeshiko League and in this All Japan's Cup she showed she's good and she's a fighter. Thus I guess she'll fight for her place 'till the end. Could make it.
Asano Nagasato: she's not bad at all, but that doesn't seem to make the cut for a forward in this team currently. She'll have to get much better to secure a place, and could even not be enough.

    I think it's TV side's choice.
Norio just said there were many good young players, never mentioning specific names.
As for Kyokawa and Nakada, just because of their popularity, nothing more than that.

As you say, Yokoyama plays only for short time, but her killer instinct combined with her sharp movement is much stronger than Kyokawa, maybe Iwabuchi, so she can be used as a last minute sub when you desperately need a goal, though this is mere my impression.

As for the other members you refer to may be strong contenders, so would be involved in the last 30, though I can't swear it.

Before you all dive into the "Trees" of the decison for the Olympic squad (which is why I enjoy following this thread), I would like to add some "Forest" comments.

    1) When I look at the group picture portion of the "Selection Video" I see a team with great chemistry. Earleir in this thread someone posted a link to earlier competition videos that I thouroughly enjoyed and feed to my view that this team has great chemistry. They appear to genuinely enjoy playing togehter!!

    2) There is the INAC "Core" that as I learn more makes the NT Beleza team General manager look suspect for releasing so many key players!!

    3) Norio Saskai is a key factor for this team's success!!! He is proving to be very good at reading not only the competition but his own players and adjusting accordingly. Also known as good coaching:)

    4) Japan looks to be developing quite the collegate level women's soccer which is so key. I live in Portland Oregon which is one of the big centers of womens soccer in the US. Take a look at how many US NT players come through Portland. This is a huge key for future success.

I am routing for many future Nadeshiko Team wins in the future!!!
