Guys, goal.com Germany has published my interview with Kumagai. Since they don't have much audience interested in women's soccer I would be grateful if you guys could drop a line, like it on FB, twitter it, etc. or just visit it - just that it doesn't seem to go all unnoticed.

The Japanese version has been already online a few days for those who are interested and speak Japanese, just scroll down the "Special" archive (http://www.goal.com/jp/news/1579/スペシャル/archive/1).

English version will follow in a few days I think.

    Thanks :)

Lol, sc-f, I went to the page but I hope the english version is up soon, because both german and japanese versions are not very useful to me (although I can at least fake understanding something in german :p like the fact that she talks about her "new" midfield role... but I want to read about it in a language that i can understand better!!!).

Anyway, good job for the very fact of interviewing Saki! (By the way, I discover your real name is Akira, like Kurosawa, one of my favourite directors of all time).

How is Saki "live"? Is she a kind and very cool person as she seems?

By the way, we saw Saki in a lot of media occasions in these Christmas holidays (presenting new uniform, commenting All Japan Cup matches in TV, being interviewed for the "5 months from WWC" special, etc...): this means that, finally, the "banning" from the JFA ran out: you remember? she had been pulled from all TV appearances after the twitter affair, but it seems to me that no-one had openly said for how long this "ban" was meant to last. Thank god, looks like, after some months, JFA said (or somehow made clear) that is now perfectly ok for Saki being on TV and in media in general...

Thank you for the very good highlights unepomme. I had seen some other highlights, but not so complete.

I post here a video from the new uniform 2012 presentation from two days ago: you can see the joke from Nagasato to Kumagai (0:29) and Uchida talking to Sameshima and Ando (1:03; it's obvious to me that he's talking mainly to Sameshima, who laughs after that... :p).
The video is from moukoko24 channel and I post it also as a way to urge all of you to watch the many good videos that he put up there lately; between them: highlights from All Japan's Cup semifinals, with lot of pre-match and post-match stuff, and Kumagai, Utsugi and Sameshima (and Naoko Kawakami :p) commenting for japanese TV (in the Niigata-Beleza match, you can see that Kamionobe played all the match with a black eye, like a boxeur, lol); a special about Yuki Nagasato in Berlin (showing off her german ^__^); a long two-part interview to Norio Sasaki (calling himself "Nourinho"; as "Norio" + "Mourinho", you know... ^__^), just to name the very latest stuff!!! Excellent channel, Moukoko, I have to say to you, if you keep reading us!!!

Can't it be more like Noriola, a deference to Josep Guardiola of Barcelona?

It could be, given the Barça-style of play of Nadeshiko Japan, with a web of quick passes from a bunch of pint-sized players, but it was Norio himself who talked about this nickname... :D
Check the video on Moukoko site, part 2, towards the end...

Edit: also, did you notice the pretty "snow-flake" earring Sameshima is wearing in the video above? :p

Well, I don't know if cool is the right word. Considering that she just turned 21, and had a hell of a year I thought it is quite remarkable how she has both feet on the ground. I found her very mature, and very "normal" in a positive way, if you know what I mean.

I am quite sure that in this case JFA didn't ban her. She publicly apologized and the thing was cleared. Then she was in Germany, so maybe this was helping to calm down the issue.

Anyway, her best friend in the Nadeshiko is Same-chan :) as you were wondering how often they are seen together a few days ago. Now promise me to 'like' the article and I'll give you some more information ;)

I guess I understand what you mean, and I agree. I meant she's "cool" quite in this way, that she's quite "cold-blooded" (not in a negative way) and feet on the ground, but my bad english betrays me, since it's not my native language, and I couldn't find the right word. :p

Well, I didn't mean there was an official ban or something alike, but at the time media had reported that there had been a JFA intervention (don't know if it was true or it was a media exaggeration, but it was reported on many articles) and that any Kumagai's media appearance had been put on hiatus (although "unofficially"), and in fact we hadn't seen her anymore, apart from her public apologizing.
If you say that nothing of the kind really happened, and she simply went in Germany and let everything die down, that's better. But for a moment, just after the "case", I had thought JFA had really made some kind of "punitive action" against her presence in media.

Awww... you chose to ask that to one of the only persons in the world (ok, in the net) not having a facebook account!!! :(
What else can I do? How can I pump up your article, apart from going to read it (actually to fake reading it with my awful german ^__^)? I can ask some friend having facebook to "like" it, but it'll take some time to find them and having them comply...
Please tell me how can I make you happy: I've got the impression that the info you're promising are very interesting... :D

Many thanks, sc-f, for that interview! I've been hoping for a long time to hear from Saki about her experience in Frankfurt. I've posted the link on a few German-language pages, so that should help spread it more widely (even with no Facebook account :p).

Interesting to hear that she played as a defensive mid for Urawa. Seeing her with the Nadeshiko, I couldn't help thinking that she was born as a central defender. That's probably also why I was so surprised to see her come in as a substitute for Behringer.

Frankfurt will be playing in an indoors tournament in January. I'd love to go and see how Saki performs in that environment. Unfortunately, it's too far out of my way, and it's not very likely that there will be video coverage.

Lol, people, didn't you ever think too that Nahomi Kawasumi looks like a living cartoon? :D

Well, now it seems she'll star her own Manga! I am not sure what's the original source of the news, I'll simply link you to the site where i found them first: http://www.rocketpunch.com/mag/?p=7194
Lol, we knew Nahomi had become ultra-über-popular, but I didn't think she could even get her own manga-magazine with interviews, pin-up posters and actual manga stories!!! ^__^
What do you all people think about it?

Oh, sc-f, meanwhile I gave a thumbs up to your article... Is it enough to get at least a drop of your precious info, until i get to do better than this? :p
Ah, and Micol: if the english translation of Saki's interview doesn't appear very soon, i'll have to ask you to traslate something to me or I'll die with curiosity (I didn't understand even a quarter of the article in german.... Sigh!!!).

Meanwhile Saki passed the evening with Kawasumi, Tanaka and friends:

Best friend Sameshima is not there, but if I understood well Google-translated (ugh) Kawasumi's blog (pic is from there), Same gave a gift to all of them: out of season strawberries! ^^

I don't really know but I don't remember there was open criticism at her from official side. Maybe something vague like: "Kumagai should be a bit more careful now that the Nadeshiko is in the spotlight" from Sasaki, but no more, since her apology came straight after.

I was joking!! :D Of course, it's still a niche topic (not only is it women's soccer, it's also about a Japanese player - on the German goal.com-site). I just thought that it could be nice if readers/goal.com Germany see that there are at least some enthusiasts reading.

Thanks Micol, I'm glad to find a German-speaking reader :) and thanks for your help to spread the word!

About her position: she basically said that she is happy wherever she plays, but according to her, she never did the Behringer-position in training and that was pure accident as for Behringer's injury against Potsdam.

The interview was in the week after the cup so I couldn't ask her about Duisburg or Essen (where she looked like a number 10 player at least when she provided the assist).

Well it looks like a one-woman demolition job by Kawasumi, a pity for Belle that she was fit to play. She was both faster and much fitter (see her last goal) than the Belle DFs.

Also see that Nakano was the Belle scorer, a very good goal. She must be near high-scorer for the tournament. But Belle needs 1 or 2 more good DFs.

This seems to be the Albirex v Beleza highlights and yes Sakaguchi scored a good goal, and their #5 scored a superb header outjumping Nadeshiko player Asano N and Muramatsu. Also this video is similar, but shows Saki in the commentary box, Kaimonobe's nasty black eye (Urawa game?) and the very pretty Hara in places, goodbye to her for many months.

Lol, she's obviously a super-hero, with special healing powers, ultra-speed, etc. (although it has to be said that 4th goal was in the last minutes and Belle defense was obvioulsy exhausted). Being a super-hero, Kawasumi is going to get her own comics... Did you read my last post, mumf? ;)

Albirex's #5 is Yuri Kawamura. Do you agree with what I said some posts above, that she and Nakano are two Nadeshiko League players that could be considered for National Team? (Although we all know that Sasaki is going to have problems of abundance for London: but, although crossing fingers for it not to happen, injuries could eventually force Norio to bring to London some unexpected players).

Mumf, the second Niigata-Beleza video that you mention is the one from Moukoko24's channel: did you notice that, some posts above, I recommended a lot of new very interesting videos there? Did you give a look to some of them?

Yes I went back and read more closely. I dont recall this Kawamura before, as we do not often see Albirex players. They were terrible in the 2nd half of the year, and I would expect a heavy defeat in the final. Good to see that Sakaguchi can shoot - she has a habit of ruining such chances.

Yes I played thru most of Moukoko24's channel. I liked this video even though it is mostly "old hat" by now.

I didnt mention it before, but I am annoyed that one of the INAC goals against Beleza was scored by the arm of one of the FWs (#11 or #13, forget). And damn that Kawasumi !

Mumf, as I said before, Yuri (or Yuuri, what's the exact first name?)Kawamura was even named once by Sasaki, for the training camp in Okayama in august (see link: http://www.jfa.or.jp/eng/topics/2011/330.html), although she and INAC's Minamiyama were with the National Team during training camp only, and they didn't follow the squad in China for the Olympic qualifiers. Anyway, it's a sign that Norio marked Kawamura's name on his book and could eventually consider her for the National Team, should some other big name be unavailable for some reason.

Albirex are really playing the underdog! To reach this final they had to beat the teams ranked #3 and #2 in the last Nadeshiko League, and now they'll finally face #1. It will be very hard for them, given how good some INAC players look at the moment (*cough* Kawasumi *cough*), but if they somehow manage to make it, no-one will say it's not well-deserved.
And at the moment Sakaguchi is BOSS.

Oh yes, I didn't mention that wonderful WWC recap or the special about Miyama corner-kicks-specialist, [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YHAIzEyJtc&feature=related"]Miyama - YouTube[/ame] but they were obviously great, as everything on Moukokok24's channel. And everytime I find a new jewel like these, I always discover they're not just "old stuff", but I always find some interesting "news": for instance, in the video you said there are wider and longer views of the main actions of the matches (which other video replays the entire action of Maruyama's goal vs Germany, starting on the defense line with good ol' friends Sameshima and Kumagai?).
Miyama's video has equally a lot of stuff we all know by heart (like 17 yo Sawa and 11 yo Miyama meeting for the first time, AGAIN! Lol), but I guess it does a wonderful job of telling the history of the perfect understanding and harmony between Sawa and Miyama all along these years in Nadeshiko Japan National Team.

Against Beleza? You mean against Belle, or are you still talking about one of the league matches?
If you're talking about the match with Belle, which goal are you talking about? Kawasumi's ones were perfectly clean in my opinion, Nasu's one seems ok to me, probably you are talking about Ohno's shoot, but I guess it was one of Belle's defenders deflecting the ball in her own goal... But I'll try to watch again the highlights to see if I understand what you mean.

Edit: Mumf, I guess you're wrong: if in the video highlights you look closely at the second replay of that goal (the one with the view from behind Belle's goal, starting at about 5':14") you can clearly see that the ball bumps on Belle's defender #3 Yuka's hip, and you can also see that INAC's #11 Takase moves her arm inwards and doesn't touch the ball. After the goal, Takase moves her hand to her mouth, but in my opinion it's not a "guilty" gesture, like "Oh my, what I have done", but more like a "choking-a-laugh" gesture, like "Look what they've done for us and how easily we take away this goal".

Oh I remember Kawamura now. How she is as a DF we dont really know, but she can win headers for sure.

But about the INAC v Belle goal, blissett I have to say that the video clearly shows that the ball does NOT bump the Belle's defender's hip, and anyone can also see that INAC's #11 Takase's arm is the ONLY thing that touches the ball. I am talking about the same view too, the one from behind Belle's goal, starting at about 5':14" on the counter.

I reviewed both angles, but I am still not sure. It's possible that they touched it both, both I tend to exclude that defender #3 didn't touch the ball (she wasn't coordinated and from her behaviour after the goal I guess she KNEW she had touched it, so making impossible Fukumoto's save).
I admit that it's possible that Takase also touched the ball with her shoulder, but it's not so clear to me.

I call someone else for help :D
Please, anyone, be the judge between me and mumf, I'll accept your sentence: who's right about this goal? (Watch it carefully before sentencing!)

I guess Ms. Kawasumi resolved the mystery for us and, if things went like it seems from her blog, I have to admit that mumf was right (although it could be that Takase's touch it's not considered hand-foul).

As it was showed some days ago, about the same Kawasumi's blog, It's almost impossible to extract some meaningful info from a Google-translated japanese text, but I'll try anyway :D: go to Nahomi's post of today (here is the link, already in the translated version: http://translate.google.it/translate?hl=it&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fnahomi-kawasumi.net%2F2011%2F12%2Fpost_1164.html); scroll down, past the beautiful picture of Saki and frowning Asuna Tanaka, scroll down again and ignore Ms. Kawasumi appointments of tomorrow :D, skip the second photo (who is she, by the way?) and, just below this photo, you'll find some lines where Kawasumi seems to discuss if the goal against Belle was scored by Takase or Shino (I suppose it means Shinobu Ohno) and she concludes in a way that I don't understand ("Takase goal since the goal is Shino's shoot") but that seems to unambiguously imply that both Ohno and Takase touched the ball.

Then I guess that we can assume that Takase effectively deflected the ball (it remains undecided if Belle's defender touched it too, before); Kawasumi doesn't seem to mention a real "hand" touch.

Then, obviously, if a japanese reader can tell us what's really written there, we'd be grateful. :p

Indeed, Kawasumi correcting her statement in her earlier blog there by saying it was a Takase's goal rather than Ohno's.

I think that Micol was trying to be dimplomatic when she said that she "almost" thought it never touched the DF. Still I do not feel like debating further what is perfectly obvious upon reviewing the video. By freezing the frame, its absolutely clear the ball never hit the DF, and did hit Takase on the fore-arm just below the elbow. And its not at all difficult to see this was a hand-ball by the rules, but missed by the referree.

Does anyone know if there will be a web feed for the Final?

Thank you unepomme: I missed most of the match (because of celebrating beginning of 2012 here in Italy :p), but I am now watching the last minutes!

There will be extra time + penalty shoot out if they end on a 0-0 tie?

Wow, Kamionobe and Tanaka banged their heads quite hard....
Kamionobe now looks like an heroic injured soldier on the front of war... :p

Minamiyama scored... I though Sawa, Kawasumi or Ohno would have decided (although Sawa made most work for the goal, after Ji So-Yun free kick).

I didn't hope I would managed to watch full second half... Did the match start later than it was scheduled? Now looking forward for a good second half. Although INAC scored I don't think it will be easy for them... in the end Niigata was one of only three teams (with Urawa and Beleza) to grab a tie from INAC in the L-league, and, if you remember, they got a 3-3 after being 0-3... They won't give up easily.
