There have been a lot of problems between Eintracht and Kaiserslautern fans. I just think they are dicks.

Anyone have any insight into Fortuna Dusseldorf from a stereotype or cultural perspective? For example, do their fans have any unique reputation? Just curious because they are headed for promotion (probably) but I know nothing about them.

Given that DTH (a punkrock band) were their sponsor they are not very right-leaning, more to the left I'd say. Other than that the city itself is filthy rich and has quite some snob potential, probably only rivalled by Munich, Frankfurt and Hamburg (but Ddorf is porbably classier then the other two). Also, it's a carnival town, so, not unlike Cologne that will probably play a role.

I'd say they are not unlike Hanover in their perception.

There must be some posh elements in Düsseldorf since they historically always had quite bad following conpared to the city size.

Their fanbase always had been decent enough. Whenever Düsseldorf was actually good they had one of the highest attendances in the Bundesliga. But - prior to the late 90s attendances in Germany weren't only generally lower on average, but highly dependent on how the team did. Dortmund, Frankfurt, Köln or HSV regularily had average attendances below 20.000 when their team wasn't a contender (Hell, Köln and HSV sometimes averaged 10.000 in the 1st Bundesliga in the 80s!). And Düsseldorf was a relegation candidate 90% of the time they played Bundesliga. With their current 2. Bundesliga attendances (which have been consistent for 3 years now) they would have been among the top in the Bundesliga any year between 1970 and the early 90s.

But well, such things happened to more prominent players in the past (Mario Gomez & Miro Klose lassen grüßen).

Yep, really impressive job by the "Überraschungsteam" from Paderborn. BIG KUDOS! Kudos also to Fortuna for this incredible streak (27 unbeaten league games and 22 unbeaten home games in a row, I think).

Here's the final table before the winter break:

Haha what an utter load of Bullsh1t!

I just randomly came in to this forum again after a long time and was just getting ready to leave again when I saw this...

First of all I think the myth of the "hearty" and "welcoming" german exists only in your head. Frankfurt is as welcoming or not as any other major city.
Of course there are a lot of Bankers in Frankfurt, but there are also plenty of areas like the Bahnhofsviertel, Sachsenhausen or Bornheim where the Bankers are as far away as anywhere... And while it might be envogue these times to think that all bankers are selfish evil people, I can asure you there are plenty of them who are actually quite normal!
I have no clue on what you would base your claim that people in Frankfurt are more selfish than anywhere else, but Im sure had you ever been in one of the big Applewine Taverns with long tables where people randomly sit next to strangers and chat, you wouldnt get that idea. There are a few nightclubs with a nationwide reputation in Frankfurt. Of course these are gonna have a certain price. But there are plenty other opportunitys to go out. I think the "everyone doing coke" picture fits just perfect in your banker-clichee and is as far away from reality as anything you stated in this post. Im sure some people do coke, but I have lived in Frankfurt for 25 years and never seen a single person doing so...
Maybe you should try to make your own pictures instead of asking people that study somehwere nearby and apparently have no clue about Frankfurt except for some old clichees...

Wow. That was how many years ago? Ten? No need to defend any of this bullshit but im sure its not like in Hannovers awaysection there are only fluffy bunnys and puppys... I have personally had the experience of standing at a station in Wunstorf (or something liek that) with 4 Eintrachtfans when a train full of Hannoverfans rolled in on the other track. You wouldnt believe how many bottles we saw flying towards us... But I certainly wont walk around now and tell everyone that Hannover is the most evil and "selfish" city of all... Idiots exist everywhere.

    Well then...

Now its just getting plain rediculous. Without having a valid statistic I would still claim that Frankfurt is one of the most multicultural citys in Germany if not in all of Europe. I dont know what the heck that "person from frankfurt" was saying but I know plenty of Turks, Kroats, you name it, that speak perfect german and even Hessian. Nothing special about that, after all they live and grew up here. I dont know how well integrated immigrants in Amsterdam are, but I have been around the outskirts of Amsterdam a few years back searching for some Graffitis and I can assure you those areas came closer to your term "ghetto" then anything Ive seen in Frankfurt...

Well, if you say so... I guess living in one of the greatest citys in Europe would make anyone elitist, but you wouldnt understand...

That compliment goes straight back. After all it were Lauternfans that pulled the emergencybreak last year, when their train just passed the big parkinglot infront of the Waldstadion where many Eintrachtfans meet, and started attacking. Dicks exist everywhere...

Will be a close call this season. I dont really see Paderborn hanging on through an entire season, but the other 4 all have the potential.
Good for us that after the game against Düsseldorf in February we have no more "top-game" coming up and can watch the others steal points from each other...

I was hoping you would read it, lol. Good to see you back, even if it is just for a short time.

Yeah, 'cause FFM is certainly cooler than Amsterdam, Prague and Cracow (not like you would know what living in Hanover is like).

I had bad personal experiences in Frankfurt, (mainly in Sachsenhausen and the city center), and only few good ones, hence me not liking the city and giving it crap. It's not like me as someone from Hanover wouldn't know what that's like. Obviously it was all subjective and over the top, but such is the nature of stereotypes.

Funnily enough, the immigrant thing I have heard mainly from Frankfurters.

You'll just have to live with somebody not from Offebach or Darmstadt not liking your city, sorry. To be fair, Sachsenhausen, apart from the personal negative stuff that happened to me there, looks like a lovely, albeit expensive, place, and you do make good currywurst.

Btw: Where have you been so long? Another "Weltreise" every year? ;)

Although being happy that BMG managed to catch your guys in the end, I could also feel with you last season. What a collapse of your team after the winter break...

Pretty pumped about this! My nine years in Bamberg led me to me developing a soft spot for the Fürther. Can't wait to see their three stars in the Bundesliga.

Well Thats a Buli centered comment ;)

Germany had a Football championship before as there was football in england before the premiership.

Fürth is as much german football champions 3 times as FC Köln :p (naaah you know that already cause you were joking).

Cool. When had you been in Bamberg? Did Fürth play 2nd league at that time?

Btw: Look at this pic. Former Schalke 04 "Eurofighter" Mike Büskens will be an 'eternal hero' in Fürth, hence! ;)

    Yes, I do know this.

As my club also won titles before the inception of the Bundesliga.

I'm happy for Greuther Fürth as I lived 15 minutes north of them (Erlangen) for most of my time in Germany.

But still, the Bundesliga is what matters now. I don't care much about who won what 40 years before I was born.

I always have to tell FCN fans that because they were great in the 20s and 30s, it doesn't make them great now.

But since you brought up England too, Nottingham Forest also won two European Cups.

Does that make them any more relevant now?

    I don't think so.......

It is nice to have such history and tradition. But if that's all you can be proud of, you quickly find yourself living in the past.

Just ask fans of FCN, Greuther Fürth, 1860 München, 1. FC Köln, Eintracht Frankfurt, etc.

And these are all clubs I either like or have some sort of soft spot for. I'm not "teasing" anyone. This is the way many of us see things.

    I know not everyone does.
