A press conference will be held at a local soccer store, (soccer factory) on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 1:30 pm. More details will be released on Monday morning. My source tells me its breaking news. I will post the info as soon as I have it Monday.
Well that or more investors coming onboard. I want the Scorpions to succeed badly, I want an MLS team in San Antonio. I just have reservations about soccer for a cause, no matter how noble it is.
Noted. But as soccer fans we need to support whatever level we have to make it successful. The success of the lower levels will lead to other investors to look at San Antonio for possible MLS expansion. That I am sure of.
I agree, I want lower divisions to be successful as well, specifically the NASL. Hopefully the success of San Antonio can be similar of Montreal.
I doubt they'd hold a press conference at a conspicuously public locale if they were suspending operations. That would be a pretty dick move.
Maybe they made their first signing or maybe there is movement on the stadium front. I know Ian Gold was waived by Toronto FC and is from San Antonio so maybe he is the first Scorpion signing.
Ian Gold ? The NFL Linebacker .... Er, you mean Matt Gold ? He'd fit the MLS/Midfield description but seems to be more attacking than holding like they said. Still though, would be a smart move overall.
Put the pieces together. You wouldn't announce the team having problems at a soccer store. It is likely the first signing or some sponsorship agreement. A much needed stadium update would be nice, but this also doesn't seem to be the venue. As for MLS, does it matter which team it is? I just don't see how Hartman ever reaches that level based on the soccer for a cause business plan. I don't even know how he makes two years on it without money men. As for the Spurs USL-Pro team, well they have to actually form a team before they can be talked about.
Stadium update was given over the radio and at the event on the 16th of November ... I shared that with you already: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=24722674&postcount=35 Granted, it doesn't give specifics/details .... but Hitch himself gave the information that the stadium was being funded by Hartman and would indeed be ready for 2013.
Can we get one of the mods to strip this conversation into its own thread? We've really gone outside of the scope of this one. Just sayin'.
