Heading to Paris for a week this winter with my fiancee and, as I always like to do when traveling, have been reading a large number of destination-related books in anticipation. I've thoroughly enjoyed this:

Reader reviews are all over the place on this book. I love it. Gopnik's a terrific writer and storyteller. At times hilarious, romantic, insightful, it's a wonderful book to read in advance of such a trip, but mostly I've just enjoyed the read.

Great vacation, I'm averaging almost a book a day and got one hell of a tan.

The best of a bunch of fillers with John Sandford, "Dead Watch" and Harlan Coben "The Woods" is a book by Billie Letts.

Excellent story line with stand out Characters. Good read.

i knew frantz fanon only by name but a magazine article this week convinced me to read something by him, and it turns out my wife had a copy of the book that seemed the most interesting on the shelf. and looking for a fiction book in english to accompany it i found the perfect match in the next bookcase.

It really is quite a great read. I'm often grabbed by stories that revolve around great friendships and this definitely qualifies. And the pacing is great with tons of action...

Hey guys... Just a small favour here. I love to see what people are reading and really enjoy seeing cover photos....BUT....Like the man said "You can't judge a book by it's cover" It means something that you've posted the pic and read it yourself, that's a good indication but I'd really like to know what you've thought of it and actually recomend the rest of us take a look.
I know we all have preferences on reading genre but It'd be nice to hear what you think first hand.

Read a book a couple of months ago by a Norwegian author Jo Nesbo called "The Snowman" Serial killer thriller and very well done. Even with the translation to English it doesn't seem to have lost anything.

So...while waiting for a flight home from San Jose del Cabo (Name dropping!)
I saw another of his among all the books in Spanish called The Redbreast"
It's another winner, kept me going while trying to keep my head above all the other sardines in the aluminium tube for several hours. I'm about 2/3's into it now and it keeps gathering speed.
From WWII in the trenches with the "Viking SS Battalion" I believe they called volunteers from Norway. to present day Neo Nazi murder.

    Both recomended.

Really enjoyed it! Definately could have done with shaving 100 or so pages off but I am lead to believe that that is what you get with King. Under the Dome is my only other King novel and couldn't put it down.

That's another on my list "Under the Dome"
There was a book, way back when, called "The Midwich Cuckoos" that sounds really similar to Dome. They made at least 3 or 4 movies of it called Children of the Damned and Village of the dammed. Damned bad most of them :) I'll have to read Kings version.

Whoa: That's a coincidence: Shirer obviously plays a big role in the book I'm reading:

Reporting World War II, Vol One from Library of America. That's a damn fine way of getting the history of the war. I wish this book had come out while my dad was still alive.

Library of America also has two volumes called Reporting Viet Nam, which I probably will not read for awhile.

Am about a third of the way through, and so far so good.

I can't help but think that this story is the love child of a three-way between Cocoon, Avatar, and Starship Troopers though. ;)

Been reading this for a week or so - Declan Hill's The Fix. Good thing I am an optimist at heart else I would never be able to watch soccer again. Stunning book, really, about fixing in international soccer.
