UEFA WCL 2011-12: CSHVSM, PK-35, K/G, LdB, wtf?

It's that time again: the Women's Champion's League draw for the round of 32 has just taken place, and as usual it gives us the chance to learn the names of clubs we've never heard of, from countries we probably will never visit. There's a thread already Upstairs for general news, but we can certainly have fun discussing peripheral issues down here...

It's silly, but the names and acronyms of clubs often amuse me. For sheer unwieldy-ness, surely CSHVSM from Kazhakstan takes the prize, although PK-35 Vantaa of Finland also tickles me because it sounds like a line of WWII torpedo boats or something. "Mayday, mayday, I've got a PK-35 Vantaa hot on my tail..."

You may wonder who are the teams from Sweden, because you do not recognize "Göteborg FC" and "WCF Malmö". Fear not, they are merely our old favorites Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC and LdB Malmö, stripped for the competition of their corporate sponsor names. In a brief moment of dyslexia, I first read the latter as "WTF Malmö" and I'm kind of sorry that I was wrong about that.

Some very exotic destination. I am giving the Arsenal away game a miss, can't be bothered with the administrative bull to get visa etc. And I need to save money for the Ladies Japan tour in Novemeber as well.

    CShVSM means

    Спорткомплекса школы высшего спортивного мастерства

which roughly translates to 'Sport club of the Sports Gymnasium', or, in Swedish, to 'Riksidrottsgymnasiets Idrottsklubb'.

(I suppose translating it means it loses some of the charm.)

I wonder if there will be any Autrichian supporters at the away game. It is basically near China with Urumqi next door  Some Bristol players were not happy with their trip tweeting :
"So I've just heard our Champions League game is a 12hour flight away! Russia should not be in Europe! #absolutetrek"

Um...Voronezh is close to Ukraine. So by this logic Europe stops at Lviv.

Actually, come to think of it, the English would probably prefer it to stop at Calais.

(That said, Kazakhstan should never have got in)

That is just so awesome, my allegiance in CL is settled right there. Wonder if it is prettified WCF 4.0 or even vNext with improved HATEOAS support or IIS-hosted WCF 3.0 with basicHttpBinding, as in, a humongously more complicated way of doing asmx style web services.

Sure but then then England would miss CL entirely :p

Sigh. I was hoping that no one would notice my extended dyslexic moment there but oh well. I'm sorry to have to dash your dreams of supporting a football team that supports itself by improved treatment of SOAP packets rather than improved treatment of acne with a fruity facial wash; it's 'WFC Malmö' of course.

But that's just as well, because now you don't have to cheer for a team other than Umeå.

Oh. Oh, right. Haha, sorry, I forgot!

Gosh darn it. Why not ??!. SOAP vs soap (or 'beauty milk') 0-1

Exactly. CL is henceforth downgraded to "one of those unimportant tournaments UIK FF aren't prioritizing/shooting for anyway"-status which is already held by... well, most tournaments/competitions UIK FF have entered lately to be honest, but that is beside the point.

Ukrainian teams tend to use this kind of acronyms and "-"s too:

    Donchanka-TSPOR Donetsk
    Lehenda-SHVSM Chernihiv
    Naftokhimik-CGP Kalush
    Yatran-Umanfermmash
    Zhytlobud-1 Kharkiv

Eurosport will be broadcasting Stabaek-Frankfurt tomorrow at 7pm CEST.

Apparently, it's also worthwhile looking out for the OL-Cluj matches on Romanian TV.

Is the uefa matchtracker stats of 1 shot on goal to 11 correct?

    (assuming you're talking about Frankfurt)

Not quite, no. Most of them weren't strictly speaking "on goal". They were 100% opportunities which they very skillfully managed to put just wide. And 11 feels like a conservative estimate. Although I guess some were indeed caught by Hjelmseth, but not because she made great saves but because they were played directly at her.

    What a nightmare.

Indeed. Being a Frankfurt fan is a hard life. :(

In other news, it seems Potsdam's goalie Berger had to be subbed out injured after an hour so Naeher got to play her first half hour for them. They won 6-0, with three Nagasato goals.

ah. So it was even worse than that... too bad.

Maybe Naeher should be worried. That's a lot of bad keeper health juju to overcome...

She could start by watching closely over her hair. No. 1 injured keeper Sarholz is currently a trainee at a local radio station. This is how she's ended up:

Wow  What a radical change in her appearence.

Returning to the original topic, do you think SShVSM-Kairat will advance after yesterday's 2-1 win or will Neulengbach overcome the tie?
