Those were painful games to watch too...but Japan wasnt as high profile as they are now. They were still trying to find an identity and hadnt had the success of this current team.

Like I said though theyre getting old, and unless they can play with walkers in the pitch they wont be much good...

The ever-superb Jonathan Wilson has an excellent article up giving a tactical review of the year. It has great relevance to Japan, most importantly in lending credence to my pet theory that Honda should be played as a false nine, but also weighing in on three-back sets.

A must-read for all my fellow tactics geeks:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/jun/07/tactical-review-of-2010-11-season

As I see it, with Honda in a false-nine role and doing lots of dropping in and tackling, at which he excels, and Nagatomo and Uchida wide, who can cover a lot of ground tracking back, we could afford to play very attacking wingers flanking Honda, guys who are not up to the every-blade-of-grass pressing of Okazaki but have potentially more upside and "fantasy" (and pace) to unsettle packed defenses... Usami, Nagai, Miyachi, in particular.

If anybody watched the job Paraguay did on Brazil today, it is a reminder that there was no shame in Japan bowing out to them in the WC in such a hard-fought and close encounter, because this Paraguay team is simply BOSS. They are QUALITY.

why would there be any shame in the first place? you guys had as much opportunity to win that game until one of your players ruined it.

I don't think anybody feel shame for losing on PKs to Paraguay. People only regret knowing they were only a PK shootout away from facing Spain and a best ever finish.

But I only reflect on that FWC with pride and fond memories of Takeshi Okada which I choose to focus on when thinking about his tenure as manager :D

I don't think any of us puts the blame on Komano for not converting.

in the Sept. Friendly, Kagawa win one back for us, but since it's only a friendly, there weren't much weigh on it.

I've never known a man who swung from Satanic to Godly in such a short span of time. God must be gutted to see his 7 day record beaten.
