Also a good place to point out that Carlos Ruiz is signing with the Philly Union....

Josh is one of 4 players for my local Railhawks (formerly USL, now NASL) team that signed MLS contacts this year. The Railhawks coach Martin Rennie has been amazingly successful at both quickly turning teams into title contenders and at nurturing players to the next level. Rennie has a bright future. We'll see about Josh.

Just watched a slew of games. It was fun seeing the rest of the league battling to see who could chase us. :)

    A few comments on alumni:

If anyone is still pining for Ty Harden, go watch the Toronto-Vancouver match. It's been YEARS since I have seen any defender have a worse MLS match.

Alejandro Moreno was totally ineffective for CDCUSA. Nice to see. The ref didn't buy even one of his dives.

I would have loved to see Pete in the J-League, too bad that fell through. Still good to see him picking up a paycheck though.

Somehow the J-League seems like it would be a total blast.

I'm speaking out of pure ignorance, but it makes me think of great urban living, vocal passionate fans, yet less than life-crushing scrutiny for the players, I dunno why.

Man, he was an underrated actor.

And for those of you who don't watch Casablanca on a regular basis (and you should):

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
    Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.
    [aloud]
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once!

Oh, yeah, and I can see the look that Bogie gives the croupier, and his shrug back. Great movie.

In what way is this particular story anything but hi-larious?

In separate alumni news, a question I've asked elsewhere: why is that Alan Gordon only figured out where the goalmouths are in the HDC after he moved to Toronto? Seriously, man.

Isn't it obvious? TFC got him velcro soccer shoes. Now that he never stops to tie his shoes, he's invincible....

I see that DC United acquired Brandon Macdonald from the Earthquakes for allocation money. They also traded away their recently uncaptained captain, Dax McCarty, for Dwayne DeRosario.

They are making some moves - thinking about the playoffs, I'm sure. They've had a good turnaround as a team, and if I was a player I'd be glad to follow Ben Olsen.

clearly this referee provoked matters here:

    http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/66/u...issing-qualifiers-against-united?ICID=AR_RS_3

The disciplinary body of Guatemala's top league, where Ruiz plays with Municipal, announced Friday that Ruiz will be suspended six months because of his actions against a referee in a match earlier this week. Municipal is appealing the suspension to Guatemalan federation Fedefut's disciplinary body. If the ban is not overturned, it reportedly would keep him out of the national team and domestic soccer, though he would be able to play club soccer outside his native Guatemala.
Ruiz was given a yellow card in the 20th minute of Wednesday's scoreless draw with Antigua. The forward was involved in a clash with an Antigua defender near midfield, and was angered when referee Ever Lopez issued him a yellow card rather than awarding a foul in his favor.

Shame we couldn’t find a position for Todd in LA, he appeared to have a good head on his shoulders.

True, but he is a Stanford guy and probably has lots of reasons to want to be in the Bay Area. Besides, working for an SF NASL team is another way for him to undermine Quakes for us.
