SV Waldhof Mannheim of the German Oberliga (5th tier) have signed GK Kenneth Kronholm through the end of the season. The 24 year old most recently played with Eintracht Trier (old thread here).
Please don't take this personally, prowazekii, but did the obscure nature of this signing make anyone else laugh a little? 5th division? I mean, that's only a notch or two above my co-ed rec league team. We are an odd tribe here on BigSoccer Yanks Abroad.
I think you're wrong here. We have a pyramid of up to 13 tiers in Germany, plus the self-organized Bunte Ligen and the Alte Herren for players beyond their mid-thirties, and 5th tier in that pyramid means we're still talking about the best percent of all teams in Germany. Waldhof Mannheim is a traditionally semi-big club in Germany, they had some good seasons in the Bundesliga in the 80'es, and still have a solid fanbase of some thousands. They generally should have the potential to play BL2; there's a long history of mismanagement.
I stand corrected, Lascho. And kudos to Prowazekii then. Amazes me the stuff people find and post on here.
People can decide for themselves how interesting or not interesting or whatever each of these threads might be. This guy's interesting to me in part because he was with Hansa Rostock just two seasons ago. He's young (1985) so I guess I'm wondering where his career is going.
This guy has way too many threads. Anyway, he spent the last half of this season with SSV Jahn Regensburg of the 3rd Liga. However, it seems that he w didn't play in a single game. I guess it's still a step up from Mannheim (Oberliga) and Trier (Regionalliga). He did play 13 games for the 2nd team of Jahn Regensburg, in the Landesliga Bayern-Mitte (6th level) and did fairly well with a few shutouts. http://www.fupa.net/spieler/kenneth-kronholm-37158.html I don't know what his contract status is.
Wasn't he loaned to a BL II team too? OK, not loaned but he was on the bench with Rostock when they were up ... though, not sure if he made the match day squad there.
Well he did manage to get himself sent down to the 2nd team along with Heath Pearce. Actually he did OK for Eintracht Trier - he got an average rating of 2.5 from Kicker in the 3 cup games he played with them.
Regensburg have already stated that they have no interest in renewing his contract, which is up at the end of this season. Not unusual for him, though - Kronholm has changed clubs eleven times during the last eleven years, if I counted correctly.
Kronholm is back in Mannheim, though on trial with VfR Mannheim this time. He played in a friendly yesterday.
Kronholm has signed with VfR Mannheim. This will be an easy thread title change. Just drop the Waldhof
Kenneth Kronholm has moved to SV Elversberg, a team that conceded a large number of goals in the Regionalliga last season.
Kronholm started 36 matches for SV Elversberg in the Regionalliga Südwest in 2012-2013. SV Elversberg finished 2nd and defeated 1860 Munich II in a promotion playoff 4-3 on aggregate to be promoted to the 3. Liga. Kronholm started both promotion playoff matches. Kronholm has kept his place in goal for SV Elversberg in the 3. Liga started both matches so far this year, a 0-0 away draw against Darmstadt 98 and a 2-1 home loss to Hansa Rostock.
Started all 38 games for Elversberg last season in the 3.Liga, notching 10 shutouts in a campaign that ended in relelgation: http://www.transfermarkt.com/kenneth-kronholm/leistungsdaten/spieler/18971/saison/2013/plus/1 Signed with Holstein Kiel to stay in 3.Liga, for next year, home of fellow YA Marc "Heidi" Heider: http://www.holstein-kiel.de/newsbeitrag/items/kenneth-kronholm-neu-bei-holstein-kiel-17407.html http://www.focus.de/sport/fussball/...rpflichtet-torhueter-kronholm_id_3904468.html http://www.sportal.de/holstein-kiel...kronholm-aus-elversberg-1-2014060638603100000 Still only 28. @bungadiri - Kenneth Kronholm at Holstein Kiel?
This will probably also be the number of teams he has played for once he retires, give or take one or two .
He got a shutout in their first game this season, a 0-0 draw, and was rated a '3' by kicker. The Dortmund game finished 2-2.
The 0-0 draw was against Eric Lickert's new team, Unterhaching, which also features the brothers of Mats Hummels and Mario Gotze. I think I read that Kronholm knocked little brother Gotze out of the game with an elbow.
Google Translate: Keeper Kronholm convinced his coach Convinced at Holstein Kiel far across the board: newcomer Kenneth Kronholm. © imago The second team of Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart Holstein Kiel suffered their first defeat of the season. That the 0: 1 bankruptcy could unsettle the team sustainably, do not believe keeper Kenneth Kronholm, come in summer to the northern Germans from SV Elversberg, however: "This is annoying, but does not throw us back." The proof, the side coached by Karsten Neitzel on Sunday (LIVE! 14.30 clock at kicker.de) provide the DFB Cup against TSV 1860 München. Kronholm is confident that this will succeed. He had shutouts on 9/20 vs. Wehen Wiesbaden & 9/24 vs. Jahn Regensburg. @bungadiri - Kenneth Kronholm at Holstein Kiel?
Up to 17 shutouts and Holstein Kiel is holding down the 2nd spot (& the automatic promotion to 2. Liga that comes with it) with 2 rounds to go.
