Union Alumni Activity in NASL - Ft. Lauderdale Strikers make the Coudet signing official. Carolina Railhawks are expecting to announce the signing of Brad Knighton very soon. Have to wonder if Cristian Arrieta does not also end up in NASL after he did not get a contract with FC Dallas at the recent conclusion of his trial with them.

Sounds like Arrieta will be signing with the Strikers as well.

So, that makes 2 Union-alum now with the club, as well as a 2011 preseason trialist (Aaron Wheeler).

Here is the link for Stahl's signing with the Union Alumni team - also known as the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers.

Also in NASL, Brad Knighton and Nick Zimmerman are with the Carolina Railhawks although their official signing press releases have not yet been issued (Knighton has already been introduced at a Meet the Team event - team will likely announce his signing this week - this game report was the first mention of Zimmerman popping up anywhere after getting waived but he assisted on the only goal of this game so he probably will make the team).

Carolina Railhawks officially announce the signings of Brad Knighton and Nick Zimmerman. With that pair going to Carolina and Stahl going to Ft. Lauderdale, it looks like J.T. Noone is the lone unattached Union alumni as of now.

I know a lot of folks were asking "why can't we get anything in return for these players" and I think the fact that Arrieta, Knighton, Zimmerman, etc. ended up signing with lower division clubs reflects how much value they had in trade (zero). MLS clubs didn't think enough of them to sign them for free, let alone being willing to give up draft picks or allocation money or anything else of value for them.

So, what’s up with Michael Orozco Fiscal and San Luis? I checked the websites of the club and the Mexicon federation as well as Mediotiempo.com, and saw that he isn’t included in the San Luis roster in any of those. Did they expect Philly to keep him, and once they found out that it wouldn’t happen it was too late to register or find space for him?

The former. I believe when he returned to Mexico, because negotiations broke down, it was too late to register him.

Wow, so now he's just sitting idle and not getting any play time? Shame.

The number 16 is still open. Maybe he comes back in July?

A good showing by the alumni playing for Carolina in its 2-0 win over Edmonton in NASL action last night - a goal and a shutout.

    CAROLINA 2, EDMONTON 0

    Lineups
EDM: GK Rein Baart, D Alex Suprenant (Andre Duberry, 75th), D Paul Hamilton, D Dominic Oppong, D Antonio Rago (Kyle Yamada, 79th), M Shaun Saiko, M Chris Kooy, M Sam Lam, F Chris Lemire, F Conrad Smith, F Daniel Antoniuk
CAR: GK Brad Knighton, D Kupono Low, D John Krause, D Brad Rusin, D Devon McKenney, M Floyd Franks, M Brian Farber (Cory Elenio, 49th), M Matt Watson, M Nick Zimmerman, F Pablo Campos (Jonny Steele, 68th) F Etienne Barbara (Allan Russell, 74th)

    Scoring Summary
    CAR: Etienne Barbara, 19th
    CAR: Nick Zimmerman, 76th

In the 76th minute, Baart overextended himself trying to get to a ball outside of his area. Cory Elenio played a ball over the top to Allan Russell. With Russell closing in, Baart raced out 25 yards off his line and headed the ball away. But it went right to Zimmerman, who coolly collected it and calmly placed a shot into the back of the net from 35 yards out.

“I looked up and I saw it,” Zimmerman said. “I had a little bit of room. Coach had given us a great scouting report that [said] sometimes the keeper will come out. If you have a chance, look up. Allan pressured him, so credit to him. He created the whole situation and I was lucky enough to put it in.”

Among the reasons for excitement Wednesday was the RailHawks’ defensive performance. Edmonton had 14 shots, but none of them were on goal and Carolina goalkeeper Brad Knighton was not required to make a save in order to earn his first shutout of the season.

    FFS.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think Valdes (knock wood) is doing really well for the team, and (not to jinx this) the back line seems to have picked up where they left off at the end of last season, but hearing that MOF isn't playing at all really bugs the shit out of me.

Maybe he's a/the summer transfer alluded to.

He's not registered is supposedly the reason. He's also not "up-to-par" according to whom I talked to.

It looks like Andrew Jacobson might be catching on in Dallas.
In their last 4 games he's gone 70min, 72min, 90min (vs Whitecaps) and 90min. In their win over LA he had the assist on the first goal.

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/videos?catid=114&id=14327

I'm glad to see him getting time there.
Hopefully when we play them we'll get to see both him and their backup keeper :)

Another alumni off to a goodstart this season is Alejandro Moreno who has 3 goals and 2 assists for Chivas (he only scored 2 goals all season with the Union) - he was able to capitalize on some brain farts by the Revs' Sharlie Joseph and Didier Domi on Saturday to get the type of garbage goal that he rarely scored last season (just had the one in Dallas - the other goal that he scored was a good header against Chivas at PPL).

They exchanged jerseys at the end of the game-how cool is that!

    The house erupted!!!!
