In the 90s the Steamers did average around 7K or so and had maximum crowds of close to 10K.

Someone can confirm that by checking the official numbers. I once spoke to Daryl Doran and he told me that they had pretty good success in the 90s and he wouldn't lie because he also mentioned the bad times.

Well in the 90's...we had the Storm and Ambush....not the Steamers. But, pretty much the same team. Some of the same players and same staff members.

Please explain why it's stupid for a St. Louis soccer fan to support the ONLY MLS team in our area...3 hours away??

Also, the Steamers, in 2004-2006, averaged between 5,000 - 6,000 per game. I expect the new team next year to draw at least that many.

And nothing against AC or the Lions, but neither team drew anywhere near 5,000 per game last year. AC drew about 2,500 per game....and the Lions averaged a few hundred fans per game.

It is what it is. It's outdoor minor league soccer. It's never going to be a big deal to St. Louis fans.

While AC St. Louis might be dead.....it looks as if the MISL could be set to make its return to St. Louis in the fall.

How long have you been saying this for now?
yay, 2 point shots! No thanks, at least the PASL has no gimmicks.

I am, of course, happy for any positive soccer news in St. Louis. I know that lots of people will be excited by MISL and it might be a successful venture. I'm still more excited about the Lions. Like Steve, I can't stand the gimmick-ness of multi point scoring. I appreciate what Piasa is doing and hopefully the MISL franchise will also provide a fun environment for fans. I just can't see myself becoming a regular at MISL games.

nicely put and I couldn't agree more. I'll support it but probably won't be a big fan. But FIRST there has to be a team.

I can tell you this ownership group could possibly be the strongest St. Louis has EVER had.....if all comes to fruition.

Why didn't they step up and invest in AC St. Louis? And why should we as fans of AC St. Louis get excited about an ownership group that chose to let them die so they could start their own indoor club? And why should we believe a poster who claimed to be an AC St. Louis fan, and yet clearly had ulterior motives.

Maybe the investors were bigger fans of the indoor game and didn't want to go head to head with the Cardinals.

Maybe the investors wanted to NOTHING to do with Jeff Cooper.

Maybe the investors like the fact that the operating costs for an MISL are lower than an NASL team. With MISL teams in KC, Omaha, Chicago and Milwaukee.....and a very good chance that Wichita, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Dallas join the MISL next season, travel costs would be reduced with more teams in the midwest.

Maybe the investors would eventually like an MISL team and have that same team play outdoors in the summer.

I have no clue....we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

    Could you please just stop?

You worked for the Wizards so we were all supposed Wizards fans.
Cooper wouldn't hire you so we are all supposed to hate Cooper.
You now work for the Comets so we are all supposed to love indoor.

Please don't go to work for the Cubs. I don't think I could stomach the posts.

I haven't asked anyone in STL to become Comets fans.....but having an MISL team in STL is better than not having an MLS or NASL team here.

It seems like you guys care a lot about soccer in Saint Louis.
Might I suggest a fan group? Maybe on facebook? If you could possibly unify enough people maybe a good owner/valid investors could step up?

I'm sure you've all talked about this many many times.
If not, let's do it! I'm more than willing to start or help out.

    Let me know

It is so sad to see this thread "It's over. AC is dead" whenever I come in to get updated on NASL and Ft. Lauderdale STRIKERS.
I was truely excited about AC St. Louis.
Maybe change the thread name to REVIVING AC ST. LOUIS

We look forward to your return to NASL. Good luck with the future.

Come on dude. This has nothing to do with Cooper since investors could've bought the teams from him OUTRIGHT! AC St.Louis and the Athletica were up for sale by Cooper and he actually unloaded all of the Athletica to those bozos in England.

So if an investory REALLY wanted either the Athletica or AC it would've had NOTHING to do with Cooper since the investors would've had total control!

Timmerman at the PD confirmed Cooper tried to sell both teams locally but NO ONE was interested! We're not talking about spending $100 million plus to buy the Blues! An investor could've probably bought the Athletica for a million and AC for maybe 2 million but STILL no one CARED and there are TONS of people in St.Louis rich enough to handle that small amount!

Under what fantasy scenario do you see NASL returning to St.Louis? I hear NASL is on its deathbed anyway.

AC is dead. Let's focus on the St. Louis Lions (you know, the team that is still around) It's been a while since I checked in here at BigSoccer, but we're having a Lions pre-season party at Tigin Irish Pub next Saturday April 9th. We're going to be distributing the St. Louligan Scarves and talking about the upcoming season. Come out to be a part of it and have a few pints with the guys. A couple of people from the Lions will be there too to answer questions or help with Season Ticket info.

Just because AC is gone is no reason to stop having fun at live soccer games. All are welcome to join the party. More info on the facebook event page below:

That's nice but I doubt we'll get a team unless the Lions are upgraded but WHO is going to pay to keep the team running?

Even IF someone comes on board they'll quit just like Cooper did when they realize it's a money loser.

Plus if NASL came back it's only fair if WPS came back as well since Athletica fans got screwed over too. Maybe even more so.

Well if the Right ownership group were to get involved i'm sure the NASL and WPS would be willing to return to ST. Louis at a flip of a dime.

But, to repeat the point made earlier, NO ONE in St. Louis is willing to step up and invest in an NASL soccer franchise, if they were, AC St. Louis would still be playing. This isn't a problem limited to soccer but to other sports as well, as only the Cardinals have any real local ownership. We all know that there are people in St. Louis wealthy enough to make second division soccer happen (or MLS, for that matter), there's just not enough passion among those who are wealthier in St. Louis to be willing to absorb the losses that are involved in running a second-division soccer club. That's sad, because obviously that passion exists with the fans.
