Hello all here is Argentina's squad for the game against US. http://www.ole.com.ar/seleccion/Tevez-bien_0_442156023.html Arqueros: Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar, Holanda); Mariano Andújar (Catania, Italia) y Adrián Gabbarini (Independiente). Defensores: Javier Zanetti (Inter, Italia); Nicolás Burdisso (Roma, Italia), Ezequiel Garay (Real Madrid, España), Federico Fazio (Sevilla, Italia), Gabriel Milito (Barcelona, España), Nicolás Otamendi (Porto, Portugal), Marcos Rojo (Spartak Moscú, Rusia) y Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City, Inglaterra). Mediocampistas: Lucas Biglia (Anderlecht, Bélgica), José Sosa (Nápoli, Italia), Javier Pastore (Palermo, Italia), Ever Banega (Valencia, España), Javier Mascherano (Barcelona, España), Mario Bolatti (Inter de Porto Alegre, Brasil), Fernando Belluschi (Porto, Portugal) y Esteban Cambiasso (Inter, Italia). Delanteros: Ezequiel Lavezzi (Nápoli, Italia), Lionel Messi (Barcelona, España), Angel Di María (Real Madrid, España), Nicolás Gaitán y Eduardo Salvio (Benfica, Portugal).
I had a dream Riquelme was on the roster. I would love to see him play in person. But I will take Messi.
He turned down a call-up for Brazil last year and hasn't been called since. For some reason, I think turning down a Brazil cap is kind of a big deal in Argentina.
Looks like a bunch of overrated hacks, especially that Messi twerp. Don't get your panties in a bunch. What a quality roster. It should be a fun match.
No the team is beatable. Not too many starters but it will be tough. I wonder if Bob will also not bring in all his starters for the Argentina match.
The problem with "Not too many starters" is the fact that very often, new blood comes out to impress. Look at what Brazil did to us last year. I agree that this team is beatable, but it can also turn out like last year. It's imperative that the veterans do their jobs. Everybody, mentally, has to show up for this match. I don't care if it's Donovan or Bradley, if anybody, and I mean anybody- just makes up the numbers in this game and doesn't do their part, then I don't want them on the Gold Cup roster.
I'd give it a B+ or A- team. And we will probably do the same although our B+/A- team is no where near as good as theres, but you don't have to have the better team to win. I am optimistic about the match.
I have not seen Argentina since South Africa -- how have they seemed? (yes I can read the roster and the big names I know but how have they looked as a unit in any friendlies since then is what I'm asking)
looked great thrashing Spain 4-1 and mediocre (for them) in 2-1 and 1-0 wins over Portugal and Brazil. They had a 1-0 loss to Japan which I did not see. We may well hold them scoreless, other than messi, they are not bringing in their top line offensive talent, no Milito, Tevez, Aguero, Higuian. Of course the strikers the are bringing would still start for us a heartbeat.
What formation does Batista play or likely to play? Off the talent available, it could look like 4-3-3 without a real "9" - no Higuain, no Milito, no Denis.
I am looking forward to Pastore playing against us. He is the future, and IMO will be a full blown star in the next couple of years. But yea, I see a 1-1 draw. Tough but awesome game to watch, like the last one.
Love reading some of the names out there Denis?????? where did that poster get Denis? He is awful! Pipita is recovering from a ACL, Milito is not a long haul forward and has done 0 in a Argentina jersey. Batista is looking at some new blood or giving time to bubble players. and Messi is there only because USA and Costa Rica must have paid the Play Argentina with Messi. fee. But still good squad US must be on their top game.
We are two weeks away. That guy, #10 may be in doubt: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...t-on-news-of-lionel-messi-injury-blow?cc=5901 He took a pretty good hit on the final play of the first half vs. Sevilla yesterday. They did the ACL test right there on the field and appeared to pass in that he played the second half. He was not nearly the same player in the second half as he was in the first.
Haha I dont think he'd work well under bob bradley. I'd trade Feilhaber for him though. Def. my favorite argentine player right now. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lgS93K1bw8"]YouTube - Javier Pastore: Lujos de "Il Fantasista" III[/ame]
