The current roster is a big mystery, because it hasn't been updated. Hopefully, we can keep our nucleus and bring in some experience.
Always tough to keep a champion squad together, especially in the lower divisions. Even tougher now that we are D3 as both D2 teams and MLS teams will be looking to (and have teh ability to) offer better deals. That said. Auggie will be at the monthly Regiment meeting on Jan 12 and is prepared for questions and you know my number one question will be who is locked and who is definately not coming back in 2011.
The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with midfielder Nicki Patterson. A native of Lanark, Scotland Paterson comes to the Battery after spending the 2010 season with the Real Maryland Monarchs. Paterson joins the Charleston Battery subject to USSF approval. Patterson was a member of Scottish side Motherwell’s youth academy but his first senior contract was with Scotland’s Hamilton Academicals. In 2005 Paterson moved to the US to attend and play for the University of Las Vegas – Nevada where he was a four-year starter. Battery Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser commented “Nicki is a solid pro who and player that fits in with the qualities we are looking for. He will bring experience to our squad in the midfield.” After college Paterson joined the Harrisburg City Islanders in 2009 before switching to the Real Maryland Monarchs for the 2010 season. http://www.charlestonbattery.com/news.asp?y=2011&page=1&id=572

Zaher is in Norway on trial. Havent heard how it is going since he got there a couple weeks ago. Colin Falvey still has a year option but he is down in NZ until March at the earliest. I though Bermudez was out of contract according to the article a couple months ago in the Alaska paper. I saw Kevin, Massie, Armstrong helping out during the USL combine and Marples is doing youth camps. Haven't seen Wiggans lately but he got engaged around the first of the year. Heinamann has gone to the Crew of course and Neagle, after his time in Finland, is now on trial in Seattle.
Looks like a solid core there. Glad to see Armstrong is sticking around and suiting up another year. I'm not bashful about my admiration for his play and how critical I think it is in overall team success. Loving the schedule as well, only a couple of conflicts with work at Riley Park. . .
nice, I too feel armstrong brings far more to the table than just his play on the field. I know he is a motivator, mentor, and leader at practice and off the pitch too. He has had some injuries over the years but I am glad he is still with the team too.
Good for Mike. I like him as a player, and he's a good guy. But I also like it when you guys employ at least 2 ex-United players and with him overseas and Wilson retired, we'll have to cut someone and send him your way - perhaps next month you'll see someone you like
Wilson is still here in the area. I have heard some rumors about him maybe playing home games this season but they are from fourth hand sources so who knows? I do know he will be out at the Buad. weather he will be wearing a jersey or civvies is the question. Zaher was on a two week trial which I think it ended last week but I havent seen or heard any updates
From the artilce he was in a couple months ago it sounded like he was out of contract. When i saw his name I was surprised.
Yes, I am close friend of him and he ask me to represent him. On december the team sent him a letter confirm him that them want to return for one more season, but he said that he ask to the team to release him and them let him got. I spoked with Coach A. yesterday and I beleive that he talk me that Bermudez still under contract and that is one of the thing that I try to clarify right now. Also I am trying to bring to the team to cuban players: Jose Manuel Miranda the Cuban Goalkeeper from the cuban under 23 team, the one that played against USA and latter defected together with Bermudez, and Yaisel Torres, Ozzie partner in the midfielder when our team (Pinar del Rio) won the last Cuban Title.
Falvey re-signs with the Battery, confirmation for Prince and Wiggins http://www.charlestonbattery.com/news.asp?y=2011&page=1&id=575
per goff today: *Former United [and Battery] defender Mike Zaher has joined ex-DCU keeper Josh Wicks in Finland.

Zaher had been on trial with a Norwegian club http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=7398 and thats where I lost track. IFK Mairenhemn is where Lamar Neagle (USL2 MVP last year) went to play for a few months, he is now on trial with seattle It is entirely possible he has gone there and looks like I will have to put on my deerstalker hat once again..... EDIT: Zaher is on trial and using a crappy translator this is what I found He played the entire match Saturday ending in a 1-0 loss to IFK. the latest post on the official site I think says he is still a test player but is going to play another preseason match...
The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with Jamaican forward Dane Kelly and midfielder Evan Taylor for the upcoming USL PRO season. http://www.charlestonbattery.com/news.asp?y=2011&page=1&id=591
The last I heard he was trying to latch on with a club in Africa (angola I believe) The club still has him under contract and if Ali's wishes to play in Africa falls through, he will be back. But if the moves that Auggie has made is any indication, he isn't expecting him back (we had several midfielders on trial and just signed Evan Taylor, a Jamaican International who plays a similar role. He was a large part of our success last year and a great guy who I wish the best for. I know he was missing home and I guess Angola is alot closer than South Carolina.
FWIW I found this on wiki he had visa issues in 2010 as well trying to sign with AC ST Louis. also found this article http://www.clydefc.co.uk/news/2011/02/16/3804/
