I think Specs deserves acclaim for how long he's worked and suffered through slings and arrows getting to this point. I hope this is just the start of a stellar pro career as a midfielder. That said, he needs to keep producing. I'm sure he knows better than any of us can that it's day-by-day, game-by-game to keep his starting spot and produce.

It would be great if 2ndstarright could stop by and give us some insight on the switch and how long this has been brewing.

 

Spector is a pro. No matter what the position or circumstances he is always giving it 100%. He will succeed in the long run.

 

I'm ok with the idea of starting a new Spector thread as a way of marking the positional switch. With the following lame bureaucratic conditions as a caveat, of course:

1. We're letting threads go to around 1000 posts these days, and nearly all threads will run their natural course in this manner. Unless, of course,
2. there's a significant shift in a player's career that us mods deem worthy of a thread refresh.

This way we won't be subject to thread renewals that happen willy-nilly. If we stick to these criteria it's easier to keep things tightly organized around here and still keep the discussion flowing nicely, allowing for flexibility when out of the ordinary situations such as this one occur. In short, in most cases we should still opt for thread continuity wherever possible.

 

Well, those who have been saying Spector's best spot was CM must feel pretty good about now.

Hope he keeps it up.

 

I don't see Fulham getting relegated.

1. Dembele is back in a week or so
2. Zamora will be back in February
3. MAF will give Hughes at least 15M-20M to spend in January (unlike the owners of the other clubs in question, he's sitting on over 1B GBP).

 

Don't provoke Sam, or he'll turn a Spector thread into one bashing Mark Hughes...

 

i disagree with fulham and wolves, but i agree with wigan. I think blackpool will inevidably get back down there to round it up. do NOT be surprised to see Newcastle back down there again this year. Any stability at that club has just been shattered by Ashley. That leaves a locker room in tatters.

I think Wolves have the strength to stay up if they get a few results, they havent been playing badly. Its like West Brom their last few times up, they played well they looked like they belonged. If they keep this play up i think theyll stay up too

i think itll be blackpool, wigan, and newcastle. Things were looking good for the Toon, but what just happend was a game changer not easily recovered from.

This article pretty much talks about how J Specs is a little fearful of becoming the "fill in" guy. A three month spell on the bench can make a guy a little paranoid. And if theres any time Spector could have any weight with his words it'd be now. As long as his legs are working overtime, I don't mind if he shows a little confidence with wanting to know where he is with the team. Players spend a lot of time honing in certain skills depending on their position. Its important Specs knows what he needs to do week in and week out.

 

woul like to see him in a role in which he's the more attacking of the center mids whether in epl or elsewhere.

 

Did Spector play as a CB today?

 

Nope, he played as a midfielder today.

 

He was a traffic cone today.

 

Man City might as well have been Barcelona today, compared to West Ham. On Spector's third game in a new position. This was never going to be his day.

 

whether against barcelona or gladbach he'd be better off playing in the more attacking midfield role. what he's bringing to the table is attacking nous.

 

To my eye, he simply doesn't have the skill set to be an attacking central midfielder--his passing range in particular is extremely limited. But more importantly, he's not played the position since he was 15. The number of failed fullbacks who, seven years into their professional career, are suddenly converted into successful attacking midfielders is... well, I certainly can't think of any.

The Manchester City game was not promising, and I think his movement in space showed some of his unfamiliarity with the role -- he didn't keep balance very well in the midfield. I don't know how much longer he'll keep this role.

 

more attacking role in central midfield doesn't imply only cam.
