I don't know about 2013 but 2015?? (is this thing every 2 or 3 years now) would be more than doable.

We will have BMO, a hopefully MLS upgraded Stade Saputo, renovated BC place, the new Stadium in Winnipeg finished, the new stadium in Hamilton finished , and possibly the rebuilt Frank Claire stadium in Ottawa finished.

Plus there is still Commonwealth in Edmonton and McMahon in Calgary and Mosaic in Wheatland.

That's 6 new, almost new or massively upgraded stadiums plus 3 more large stadiums in important cities. The whole country is covered except the Maritimes.

Where is the stadium that they played the CFL touchdown Atlantic games. That could be used as well if games in that region are required.

Having been to the gold cup games in Philadelphia I can say that there is no need for anything close to World cup/Olympic style infrastructure.

This is a tournament that Canada can easily host in 5 years.

Well, Mocton has that new stadium, and a new CONCACAF president is encouraging for a ballpark figure of infinite reasons. In truth, coast to coast play would be nice, the Atlantic is left out of freaking everything.

King George V park in St.John's is also soccer specific and seats 10,000.

Stadia would not prevent Canada from hosting the Gold Cup. It would simply be a matter of deciding where to host the games.

From that perspective, it would be an interesting dilemma. Coast to coast? Only soccer specific stadia? Only stadia that can hold at least 50 000 fans? Cities with particular ethnic minorities to boost attendance for relevant matches?

We could definetly host one but how would the CFL feel because a lot of the stadiums that have been mentioned also double as CFL stadiums. The Gold Cup would run during the CFL season. Would the Gold Cup get rent priority over CFL teams for that one year?

I think the games could be scheduled around it, not all the CFL stadiums would be in use at the same time, and the CFL have been accommodating for the U20 World Cup before.

Actually, conflict should be avoided entirely as the CFL season doesn't start until July and the Gold Cup usually runs through June.

Even then if there was a little overlap, the semis and finals could be played in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto since in all three of those cities the stadium used for soccer is different from the one used for CFL.

Mmm.Interesting thread that I failed to notice earlier.

In my opinion,it is an absolute must that we host a Gold Cup in the future. It has already been decided that the 2011 Gold Cup will be played...you guessed it...south of the border yet again!2013 might be too early, not becasue we don't have the infrastructures or anything, but we must let CONCACAF know a few years in advance that we want the 201X edition to show them that we are serious about hosting it so they don't screw us in the last minute!I'm afraid that the 2013 edition will be in the US again. We should make it ours in 2015 or 2017.I'd fancy the latter because that would give us more time to prepare. What I mean by that is that we could easily host one before that but after seeing how CONCACAF has treated this tourney over the last few years,it is in our interest to host the best Gold Cup ever, attendancewise and atmospherewise. The 2017 edition would give us plenty of time to hype up/advertise the event to the the general population of our country(within the host cities, and the smaller cities around the host cities). We shouldn't just target the football/soccer population but pretty much as much people as we can to make sure that the event is a success. We really need to make it feel like it is actually an event(just like it's done in other regions!),something that the US has failed to achieve, when it comes to the Gold Cup.

And let's face it,we're not gonna get the World Cup anytime soon.So that's just another reason why we should put our efforts towards staging this thing properly(better than in the US).The past two decades of Gold Cups almost hosted exclusively by the US has done some severe damage to the reputation of the tourney and to this confederation as a whole. If we decide to host a Gold Cup,it will be our duty to restore some pride by hosting an event that most people will actually care about.

No doubt in my mind that the CSA is already lobbying, but internal politics at CONCACAF being what they are, the US basically controls everything hence why nobody has ever hosted it other than them except one year when Mexico was allowed to co-host it.

Perhaps we could first get our foot in the door by co-hosting as well with Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal each getting a game pair. That way we could demonstrate our ability to host (and have our lads play at home!)

I'm gonna have to disagree with you.I noticed a trend that some people keep mentionning how this thing should be co-hosted between Mexico and the US,the US and Canada or all three should co-host together and I'm totally against this!If co-hosted,there is going to be too much air travel involved for the teams come the knockout stages. It's already crazy as it is with teams flying from the east coast to the west coast back and forth,no need to make that longer! And in ou case,we shouldn't accept co-hosting when we certainly can host it on our own.We have the required tools. The US needs to back off for a few edition really.

The three cities I mentioned are all very close to the border so I don't think that any serious amount of air travel would be added.

I fully agree that we are ready to host it, but the current US influence in CONCACAF brings a political reality that we have to deal with.

The US doesn't control anything in CONCACAF. However, we can deliver major dollars to CONCACAF by hosting and they appreciate that stuff.

Canada can deliver pretty much the same amount of money. Most cities are very close to the US border so it's not like additional travel would reduce crowds at all.

If you can get 90,000 fans to a Mexico/Panama game, then you shouldn't have any problem getting the Gold Cup.

So with that logic, the World Cup should always be held in the USA because they had the highest attendance in 1994?
The tourney should be rotated to USA, Mexico, Canada, Caribbean (like in Cricket world cup in 2007) & Central America.
Stop hogging the tourney, at least every other time, for crying out loud.
In Montreal, there were 50,000 fans that came here for one U-20 World Cup game.
The Mexican crowds will travel north, I assure you.
Besides, since this thread got started, the Cdn $ is now worth 3% more than the American $.
Canada 2017 is realistic as Canada is hosting the Women's World Cup in 2015.
    My two cents.
