Should the CCL move to a winter-fall schedule like the AFC and CAF?

?

Should the CCL run from February to October?

The wait between the CCL Final and Club World Cup is too long. The UEFA Champion has to wait almost as long, but their tournament doesn't need any promotion. The CCL does. I think moving to an Asia/Africa type schedule would increase viewership for the CCL because then the whole qualifying process would be more compact. The qualifying process would return to how it was for the old CCC, except Central American teams would skip the UNCAF tourney. No more year-long waits. Group stages would be from Feb-April, and KO rounds would be from August to October. The CONCACAF representative at the CWC will be the same team, personnel-wise, that won its continent.

So, for example, the 2010 CCL would have featured RSL, Columbus, Galaxy, Sounders, Pachuca, Pumas, Monterrey and Cruz Azul. It would have just ended last week, with its winner leaving for Abu Dhabi about 6 weeks from now.

Moving the schedule would reduce the time between when the USA clubs clinch qualification and when they start play in the next Champions League. A problem is how would you transition the schedule when you made the change so you didn't have two Champions Leagues going on at once.

I doubt CONCACAF would look forward to going toe-to-toe with the Libertadores for nighttime viewership.

I hate to break it to you, but we've done it before. Just ask the Mexicans. ;)

Still, I can tell you the mountains (Colorado, Salt Lake) aren't going to be much fun either.

Wouldn't be any worse for playing conditions than El Salvador in October.

I'd love to see a cycle that gives us a short gap between the CCL Final and the CWC. I just haven't thought enough about it to see how easily it could be implemented.

Just delay the next CCL. An empty fall calendar until the new one commences.

this new fixtures from 2016/17 to 2016 will be a problem for MX clubs for Copa Libertadores, where is same format :D

So, Liga MX 2016/17 is :
    Apertura 2016
    Clausura 2017
Champions and runner up of both Apertura 16 and Clausura 17 will play in CCL 2018
5th,6th and 7th in overall ranking will qualify for Copa Libertadores 2018

the problems is that the time between the league winner and start of CCL will be too big .... from Apertura 2016 to CCL 2018 will be 1 year and 2 - 3 months (for Clausura 17 and CCL 18 will be 7 - 8 months)

With this ... CCL want to be as MLS, but probably, would be that MLS to be played as CCL , with 2016/17 season, and not 2016 !! CONCACAF have many leagues which play 2015/16, not as CAF, AFC or CONMEBOL !! Concacaf is as UEFA.

I guess that's what you would do because if there was a 2016-2017 CCL and a 2017 CCL, which winner would play in the 2017 Club World Cup? If the 2016-2017 CCL is the last one that spans two years, one possibility would be to advance the top two in each group and play a Round of 16 where each matchup has a first place club vs. a second place club like UEFA does. The 2016-2017 CCL could end later in 2017 if the next one wouldn't start until 2018.

I think will not be as how you say. Probably will be editions 2016/17 and 2018 !! Because 2017 have already a champion (from 16/17). The last season formed xx/xy I think will be expanded until October or November, then, the new season will begin in February - March

A lot of people have voted. So why does it only show 2 votes each?

Maybe because of how old the topic is. It now is up to 5 votes.

Ccl must in 2017-18 get back to the old format of play in and 4 group of 4 which include 2 more gamedates and move the final to august 2018 and in september play the first games of the 32 teams ccl that end in november 2019.

    Confederation's president on CCL:
“The Champions League is a real opportunity for us to grow that product because when you look at the latter stages of it, it's quite good, really well attended and great TV audiences,” he said. “But the early stages are poor, not well attended and maybe not the best stadiums."

“So I think we need to rejig that so it really becomes an impactful event both for television and our fans and on the technical side so it is quality all the way through — from the group stage to the final.”

Clearly, 24-team group stage was an absolute miss. Disgraceful decision, awful mistake. And they know it. I wouldn't mind 12-team group stage featuring toughest teams only played March-June with semis and final played in Fall.
