It appears that some Japanese youth NT, maybe U-18 (last year's U17 WC team?) went to a big tournament in Mexico and reached the final.

FC Tokyo also took part, but didn't do that well. Is that the team that tore through the J-League youth cup recently?

Re: Official Junior Youth (U17) Japanese NT Thread [R]

They did better than last year, when I believe they lost in the semis to a Mexican club.

I wonder if US and Brazil sent their best teams.

Can anybody find out about FC Tokyo...????
It might be them, as it could be that they have earned the right to participate by winning in japan. But who knows if the best players were sent? HS teams and perhaps U18s as well let the 2nd graders play nowadays, since the 3rd graders have basically graduated.

Anyway, the name of the tournie ("Bimbo" Cup) sounds bad both in English and in Japanese... I know is the name of the sponsor, but...

Brazil sent their U-15 national team which will be the next cycle of U17 world cup.
Opinions appear to vary about whether the US team was or was not our "real" team for this age group.

Why are Chivas so well connected with J clubs? Chivas Youth were one of the teams invited to the youth soccer tournament in Hiroshima last summer. They behaved like complete prima-donnas in the first match (and eventually lost to Sanfrecce Youth). I guess the trip to the Peace Park must have chilled them out a bit.

Damn, Takagi seemed big at the Danone Nation Cup and now I see he's 168 cm in a team with two boys at 185cm (wtf are these kids made of ...) !!

    Don't complain.

We need some large imposing CB in Japan. The good thing is that they probably aren't even done growing.

It kinda makes me worried though, that the coach selected them just because they are large. Hopefully they aren't crap.

Apparently Mike Havenaar has a brother named Nikki who plays for Nagoya Grampus youth.

Get this he's 15 and is 189 cm  and a CB :)

He wasn't chosen in the squad, but I'll definitely watch out for him. Hopefully he turns out to be a great player.

match against Australia and then quarter finals against whoever should be more interesting to watch ... defenders Iwanami and Ueda are both 185cm, should be good at this age, Ueda scored after freekick by header today, upfront Minamino eye-catching with good dribbling skills and technique, but no real threat this Vietnam and poor defending, will be same/similar against Timor-Leste

You know you're watching Japan when 10 chances are wasted. Could have been 12-0.
South Korea is not on the tournament so hopefully we will end up winning the whole thing.

    They won 6-0 ffs

Maybe if it was 1-0 then you could be saying that, but 6???

    That's more than enough

BTW have you ever seen a team score on every shot?
