I can't wait! And Inter's already in it!!

So who will win? Will Boca and River be there this time?

I say Inter will be TRI-Campeão!

By the time being it's difficult that either one of them will qualify, they need to either be the champion of the Apertura or make a spectacular non-championship campaign.

Hmm. Well, in order to predict from this point, it would be good to see which berths will be direct to group, and which ones will be preliminary. Since the tourney in question will have 39 teams now, there will be a berth allocation shake up. But the lazy ********ing confederation still have not decided what the format will be. And we're 1/2 way thru qualifying. What a shame.

I would say a Brazilian side...

Hi! I'm the expert of football. I will be joining you guys.

But it would be really nice to see a side from Peru bring the trophy to its home. :)

So, at first they said that this tournament would have 39 teams, due to the inclusion of the Nissan Cup champ. Now, they changed their minds. This tourney will remain at 38 teams. SC Inter, the defending champ, took away the Brasil 4th place spot. So, for the 1st time as far as I can remember, the country of the defending champ DOES NOT get an extra berth. The country of the Nissan champ, however, will. Which is pretty weird. I figured it'd be the other way around.

So it's safe to assume that the Nissan Cup champ will bump the lowest ranked Group Stage berth from its country, down to a Preliminary berth. That was always the case with the defending champ.

BOCA will win the Libertadores- if we qualify. The parting gift for Palermo

The 1961 edition was the only other time that the country of the defending champions didn't get an extra berth. As a matter of fact, it was the only time the defending champions didn't get an automatic berth (Peñarol qualified to that edition's Libertadores by being national champions).

The reason that CONMEBOL changed the rules to this was probably because they couldn't figure out how to put that extra team in.

We need coefficients in our tournaments and a change in when and how we play them. Taking a slot away from the federation's Libertadores holder is ridiculous.

Yup. Which shows how retarded they are. Even we figured it out in 5 minutes time, but the Conmeball directives couldn't, so they ripped up all the plans for 39 teams, and decided to screw over Brasil 4th place instead.

The gayest part of it all is that they published it as official that there would be 39 teams, then recently changed their minds. WTF!!! Could they not have thought it out all the way, then made a definitive decision earlier in the year? And these are supposed to be professionals? If you're gonna do an official press release about 1 of the world's most important sporting events, you should at least have everything worked out beforehand.

another bad thing is when they make the draw in december for the following years edition, there are so many teams missing (eg colombia 3, etc). Would it not make more sense to have the draw later in december or in january?:mad:

But that makes sense for CONMEBOL...

It was worse last year when it looked like peruvian sides were not going to take part and it said VACANTE.

If i recall correctly in the AFC Champions' League, apparently a couple of years ago they removed a spot from Indonesia i think it was because one of their berths wasn't assigned to anybody at the time of the draw, and they gave that berth of Indonesia to somebody else(i think they gave it to Australia). Of course it would also help that being just 10 countries the schedules were more in synch between us(regardless of whatever format each league uses, the schedule is the important thing here).

There has never been a world championship prior to 2000. And even then, the current one sucks so bad no one takes it seriously. You say Peñarol is big but it celebrates Mickey Mouse Cups like the Intercontinental Cup as if they were Libertadores. The Manyas behave more like a small club.

This award is even more Mickey Mouse then the first one.

Why the hell do they call themselves a "league"? They're a team, not a league.

The world championship prior to 2000 (and until 2004) was the Intercontinental Cup. Penarol has conquered that title 3 times. Has your team?

It's time you tell us all what your team is. You seem so jealous of all the undisputed world champions there have been, that you try to downplay their glorious accomplishments. Is your team a rival of SC Inter? You seem so jealous of world champions. Tell us why. Share with us.

PS. All the undisputed world champions throughout history (especially the South American ones) will always have the glory and honor and prestige for their world championships. For all eternity they sit on the exclusive list of champions of the world. They are the best of the best.

It's a "league" in the sense of an organization, not a "league" in the sense of a sports league, like others are "club", "association", "circle", "coorporation" or whatever. In fact there're multiple "LDU" in Ecuador.

I am not jealous. As a matter of fact, my team has won that ridiculous trophy. It is embarrassing to have it in our laurels.

The Intercontinental Cup was simply a match up between two teams from two different hemisheres; nothing more, nothing less. Hell, plenty of times the best of one continent could have not and have not participated (most famously, the 1970's). Never mind that the rest of the world wasn't involved (so it is not even a world competition).

Glory and honor? God, you really are that poor, aren't you? I don't know what is more embarrassing and corny: you using those words (LMFA :D) with that stupid competition or seeing the most lauded coach of the Copa Libertadores doing the ridicule by hugging and kissing that ugly ass shit you call the IC...I felt embarrassed for him and the team.

Even FIFA has come out and said that it doesn't recognizes the IC as nothing more then glorified friendlies. And everyone knows the FCWC is an idiotic way to decide a "world champion".

In the entire world, it seems only South Americans take that sorry trophy seriously...perhaps because South America, probably the poorest continent in the Earth along with Africa, has little to smile about. Unlike Africans, who seem to understand the laughable aspect of putting any value in those Mickey Mouse trophies, South Americans would even have stars over their crest to commomerate that.

As I have said: the poor stays poor because they want to.

Embarrassing??? Are you insane? You are completely, 100% off your rocker.
Wrong, those 2 teams were champions of their continents. The 2 titans of the world.
That was gay, but it wasn't the South Americans' fault that the Euro champ was too chickenshit to face them. So F it, those ICs count just as well.
The rest of the world didn't deserve to be involved, their football was shit. And still kinda is. Hell, if the rest of the world doesn't give Europe/S.A. a run for their money this year, I'd wouldn't mind seeing them banished from the CWC. They've had enough time to prove themselves already.
You are still off your rocker. Did you take your meds today? The coach was right for acting that way. The path to the IC is the most grueling and taxing of all sports. Only the strong survive. Only the very best can win it. He reached the absolute mountaintop. King of kings.
Because their name isn't attached to it. So they don't get any $$$ from it. They're just being greedy.
That's the only way it can be done at the present time. Too many conflicting schedules and travel costs. It's better than nothing.
Nope, millions of others do as well, all over the world, including knowledgeable Europeans.
Mods, this guy is just trolling. He's just here to insult South Americans. Take the appropriate actions.
Africans want to be world champs too, and don't consider it "mickeymouse". You don't know what you're talking about.

    hes from england...

he was posting in the argentina forums before the world cup going on and on about "the great capello" not surprisingly he hasn't shown his head in there since.

he also says euro teams don't care about club world cup, when in fact milan changed around their whole schedule around to try and beat Boca, which they did, although we didn't have our best player

also, barcelona certainly cared. it was the only trophy the club had never won. look at messi's reaction to the goal.

    this guy is a clown.

I wish to see the old Intercontinental Cup restored the Fifa Club World Cup sucks and just gives crappy teams a chance to play..everyone knows that strongest football continents are Europe and South America always has and always will be..The Intercontinental Cup was exciting because it went straight to the final 2 teams not like now where you need to win preliminary games and stuff like that, As for the current topic its hard to say a lot of good teams out there in S.A maybe one of the historic teams can win..

It's only 1 preliminary game for Euro/S.A. teams.
