In case anyone was wondering, Evian currently are 3rd in Ligue 2.

And only 1 point ahead of his former club ESTAC.

    Evian vs Troyes - 05/13

Also, Evian plays this Monday against FC Boulougne-sur-Mer, the team of Bakary Soumare.

In one of my FM saves, Westberg moved to Evian and was their starting keeper for a decade, leading them to the Ligue 1 title one year. Hopefully real life reflects the game. :)

Haha I played with ESTAC (Troyes) in FM and sold Q because he wasn't doing well LOL. I ended up bringing in Guzan. Q ended up in League One in England.

I hope he does well and can help get them promoted maybe if he does well he could even get a look with the Nats? Maybe Gold Cup just to see?

Westberg will have to fight hard for the starting spot. Starter Bertrand Laquais is a solid and experienced GK with several Ligue 1 seasons under his belt. He was redcarded vs Dijon and will therefore be suspended next game vs Boulogne. Let's hope Quentin does well and earns the starting position.

    Hmmm . . . what's Evian spelled backwards? :D (Sorry, couldn't resist).

Glad Westberg found a job. I hope he does well enough to keep a job next season. He's 24 so as a keeper he's got a decent number of years ahead of him (potentially) if he can earn time/contracts. Best of luck to him.

Looking at the career tracks of other SA U20 keepers over the last 10 yrs, Westberg's career is going well enough.

A quick, little piece about Westberg's history (In French). The one new bit of info is that he is projected to start today's game for his new team. This match will be against Boulogne and former MLSer Bakary Soumare.

Btw I love the new title.

Westberg got the start in the Coupe de France match vs Marseilles today. Evian achieved the upset and Westberg only surrended one on an unfortunate own goal.

    Good for Quintin.

His time at Evian has kind of been like his time at Troyes hasn't it? He's been a backup.

Westberg was the backup at Troyes from 2006-2009 in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. Then they were relegated again and he spent 2009-10 as their starter in the Championnat National after Cyrille Merville left for greener pastures (though Arles-Avignon's pasture isn't very green this season).

Troyes were promoted after finishing 3rd, but there was a change in club leadership and he got forced out. So now he's the backup at Evian, who won Troyes' division last season and are right now on top of the table in their first ever season in Ligue 2.

Westberg could maybe ride the train right back up to Ligue 1, but he'd probably still be a backup. He's behind a guy named Bernard Laquait, who is 33 and has extensive experience in the Belgian league with Charleroi and spent a season in La Liga (as a backup at Recreativo).

It doesn't sound like a particularly easy nut to crack, but it's hard to say without knowing how either GK has performed. We need a French Ceres.

Plenty of back-up keepers have parlayed good cup matches into starting spots at other clubs. Ben Foster, Ali Al-Habisi, even Brad Friedel. Even taking a starting role in Ligue 2 could be huge for Westberg. He really fell off the map after Troyes were sent down from Ligue 1.

Westberg will be a free agent at the end of the season so we shall see. Hopefully he can land a starting job either in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 (or another European league). His performances against Marseille and back in October against Boulogne (both broadcast live on French TV) definitely help his case.

    New Westberg article.

Also I didn't know he and the wife (mostly the wife I'm sure) recently had a baby. So, congrats to them on the birth of their son.
