I though Mendez left Holland because he wanted to be with his family.. but now he's going to Brasil!

So what's going on? Did he just really hate Holland?

Anyway, I wish him well. I hope he breaks the ex-Liga-star-in-Brasil curse.

Doesn't Jairo Campos play in Atletico Miniero too?

Yeah I saw 1 or 2 of Campos games so far. He's doing pretty damn well. For some reason our defenders do pretty well in Brazil but when it comes to any other positions the curse activates. I'm sure Mendez will do well there. You can't compare him to Luis Bolanos or Guerron. Mendez is a complete player who can play anywhere on the midfield. He's a leader. Good luck to him.

didn't do too well in Liga, now he's in Atletico Mineiro recovering from his injury. He just started his first game last week but was benched in the game after that. I'm thinking he isn't fully recovered yet.

The Mendez from 09 was nasty though.

In the games that he did start with Mineiro prior to re-aggravating his injury, he definitely showed signs of the '09 Mendez that tore up the Sudamericana. As for the rest of his tenure with Liga, I wouldn't say that he disappointed, but he didn't perform at that high level, but I heard he carried a few injuries along the way. That being said, Luxemburgo said Mendez got really fit, is in great shape, and is making great progress...all good signs to me.

Mendez game on in the 63rd minute of the game. He's still trying to find his way back after his injury. Jairo Campos did not play tho...looks to be like he's still injured.

truth is he is the best cm we have in Ecuador right now Noboa, Quiroz and Castillo are great but Mendez is simply the best. I believe his replacement could be miller bolanos, marcos caicedo, or juan casares if they could adapt to play in different posistions

Bolanos needs more international experience...Caicedo doesn't have the continuity that he should in Emelec and Caseres has yet to establish himself in River. All talented players but until they find success in their respective clubs, we have to look elsewhere. I agree tho, Mendez is still a solid CM. I think that if he stays healthy, he still has 2-3 good years in him.

    exactly. all these players
are people to have in mind but until they reach total success in their clubs they can't be a part of the NT

Edison Mendez again came on as a sub against Vasco de Gama, he came on in the 62th minute. Its good to see him getting some playing time. Hes coming on as a sub but I think its good for now until he regains his stamina and rythm. I also wonder when Campos will be back from injury...people say he was doing well.

Mendez came on in the 46th today. Good to know he's geting consistent playing time and is regaining his fitness. Campos did not play again, still injured I guess...

I'm hoping so too...if both of them don't suffer anymore setbacks, they might be candidates to be called up for the friendlies against Colombia and Poland. Hopefully Morante can recover in time as well, I think Campos and Morante could team up well, Campos and Hurtado too, Hurtado and Morante can match up with a more experienced and polished partner.

I've been wanting to see those 3 play but we are gonna have to wait. Campos has been out of competition for about a month so it's gonna be tough for him but hopefully he pulls through

Alright so what's going on with Mendez. The NT still needs him. Until somebody can come close to moving the midfield like he does, I don't care how old he is, he needs to be out there.

Kinito had a good game vs LDU L. He was passing effectively. He almost scored at least one goal when it hit the post. He was moving fine with the ball. D Quiroz was not missed on Sunday. Good for Kinito.

lazy. definitely not the player we are used to seeing in Liga. Emelec in general is lost this year and plays without any motivation. Angel Mena is the only stand out player they have. Besides that I don't see anything interesting from Strahman or Menendez. They should have kept Biglieri. And Joao Rojas absence is clear. They need to give players like Enner Valencia and Marcos
Caicedo a chance on the pitch and even use Gaibor as a sub for Quiroz or Pedro Quinonez. They have individual talent but similar to Deportivo Quito they are lost.

Big difference between the way Sampaoli played and the way Assad plays.

Impressive the last 3 minutes of the game yesterday. gimenez and 'muchas ganas' para hacer respetar la casa. they faced the seasoned champs.....not wilsterman or chiapas:D

now, to say they pay badly....emelec and his new team/coach are leading the tourney!
