Why do same teams go to Sudamericana as Copa Lib !!!

I remember the old Libertadores format 2 teams per country. Which then had to eliminate each other at quarter finals I think...

I do agree with the conversation.

Also the number of spots each country gets should be changed.....

Most countries now have an Apertura and Clausura.. give each country 4 spots per year to which the Champs and runner up of Apertura and Clausura go.. 40 teams without Mexico or 44 with Mexico.. include Mexico if that's what they want... (10 S.A. teams and Mexico)

Sudamericana make it 2 teams per country the 3rd place in apertura and 3rd place in clausura...

Basically Libertadores becomes more important with more teams and by having 4 teams in it you get your Bocas and Rivers and Sudamericana is for the smaller teams to get a chance to get some international glory..

 

Like i said before it's funny that 1st tier teams take part in the Sudamericana but it was won, except Boca, by 2nd tier sides, they way it should be.

I think i've said it before in these forums but If the mexican sides were kicked off, i was thinking of a 40 teams competition each country gets 4 spots, 24 directly and 8 decided on the qualifying round, 4 countries get 3 direct spots while the remaining 6 get 2, this decided in recent year performances by clubs from each country or any other criteria that could come by, once that is done bring a proper format for a 2nd cup, the Sudamericana, although as i see the Libertadores as the most important thing i didn't think of any yet.

 

I agree except for the whole MLS time frame. Have it from October to May instead.

 

That would benefit Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela, yeah favour 30% but screw the the 70%, i think it's the leagues that should adjust their schedules more likely. I guess that could be another interesting debate.

 

and Boca won one of those 2 when they hadn't qualified for the Libertadores (thus they took the Sudamericana more seriously) and the other time they won was after they had lost the Libertadores final to Once Caldas (they had a bitter taste in their mouth)

 

Good point there when they won it and didn't qualify to the Libertadores, so yeah events are making it look like a 2nd tier cup even if CONMEBOL tries to not allow such.

 

Has there been any statistical analysis between the 10 comebol teams to see what countries deserve what? maybe adjust the UEFA formula.

 

Well, now it's a better idea for a country to send their strongest teams to both tourneys, now that the Nissan Cup champ gets a berth to Lib. Argentina will have the edge this year because they sent strong teams to both.

It is kinda weird that mid-table teams now have this backdoor passage to Lib, which is an easier route than qualifying through the league or as defending Lib champion. I see this as kinda like being when a team gets a high draft pick. You do bad one season, you get helped the next.

 

Well you still have to do average to make it to the sud Americana right?

 

Yeah. But if you do good, you won't have that backdoor passage the next year, unless you're an Argentine team.

suramericana en papel reemplaza copa Conmebol (recuerdan la que disputaban los 3r y cuartos de cada pais)......pero bajo el formato nuevo ellos tratan al maximo en llevar o invitar sin merito a 2 o 3 de argentina y brazil......


es un juego de mercadeo, para mantener unos equipos de TV ocupados en la 2nd parte del an`o

 

Que en realidad termina siendo inutil porque la Libertadores tranquilamente podria ocupar ese espacio sin jugarla a las apuradas y con calendarios apretadisimos. O sea, a la larga se le da espacio a un torneo inutil, tratandolo de importante y también sacandole merito y espacio a la Libertadores.
