Re: Bolton Wanderers to come to Toronto on July 21 We can now confirm that Maro will indeed be open at 4:30pm, the usual three hours before kick-off. Pop on over if you can. http://www.maro.ca/ http://maps.google.ca/maps?oe=utf-8&...ed=0CBUQnwIwAA cheers B
It can be confirmed that Mista will be in the TFC lineup for the friendly against Bolton. http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2010/07/mista-make-bolton-debut We can also expect to see some Academy players in the lineup as well.
Oh yeah, one more thing. We can watch this match online at Toronto FC TV. http://torontofc.neulion.com/tfc/console.jsp
It's also being broadcast live in Toronto on Rogers TV (Rogers local cable channel). Cable 10 or 510 in HD (not sure if they are airing in HD). GOL TV Canada is airing it on tape delay on Thursday at 10:30 AM at 6:30 pm.
Looking forward to it tomorrow, hope your lads work our boys into the ground. I follow you guys a bit because I was brought up in Bowmanville, which I guess in Canadian terms is pretty close to Toronto! Also, ********ing brilliant signing in Mista, but don't be surprised if he chats some shit about getting homesick if he starts playing bad... pfft.
... and here he is ... possibly (apparently there are three trialists available) ... http://o10legionnaire.blogspot.com/2010/07/7172010-bas-ent-headed-on-trial-to.html Bas Ent of the PDL's Dayton Dutch Lions.
I hope our boys use this as a training exercise and nobody gets injured. Couldn't care less if it's 5-0 nil Bolton. Meaningless mid-season friendly. I want these games out of my season ticket pack. I'm sure that suits you Bolton supporters fine. Have fun.
I've always enjoyed these friendlies. Although injury is a possibility, the night is a very different atmosphere than normal...and in the end an enjoyable night of soccer isn't a bad thing. I'm with you that scheduling might be a bit of an issue, because I'll surely be pissed if De Ro comes out of it with an injury (knock on wood, it aint happening) while we're in the midst of our best season, but as I say, I do enjoy the games. It is nice to see different teams from around the world and the near festive vibe is a nice change of pace....just for one game. Friendlies are a part of soccer...the timing might be better, but the games are a lot of fun.
I think you can expect a very even and close game, no way is it going to be 5-0, and as you say avoiding injury is pretty much critical. We aren't going to play rough and I'm sure you guys won't either, but what I want to see is our lads having to do a lot of running and hustling, high tempo, and someone getting right into Kevin Davies. Whilst the timing of such a game is a bit questionable I'm sure your guys would take a lot of heart and confidence by beating the not so mighty but fairly respectable Bolton Wanderers, and it might just give you that little boost into the playoffs. I like being optimistic
Ent looked very good in the second half as did Mirko Medic who played up front and was also trialing.I was also impressed with Drazen Vukovic who started in mf in the first half. I hope MO signs all three of them to add to the great additions of Mista and Santos.
I too thought all did well. Ent was unlucky to not have earned an assist when OB somehow fluffed that ball four yard in front of goal. I've no idea how that one went through his legs but such is life. I was pleased that, as much as I would have liked to have seen them on the field, Preki rested all our most important starters. It certainly didn't hurt to give the subs some time and as for the trialists, we've already touched on them. ... and what a great goal by Santos from Mista! Outstanding. I had a great time tonight. It felt like a party at the front of 113. Not too much angst due to the nature of the match. It was a fun night.
"Not so mighty but fairly respectable"? Not according to the guys TFC TV rounded up to call the game! According to them "the" Bolton Wanderers "are some of the world's best!" Where the hell did they find those guys? Had to be from MLSE's hockey or basketball side of the operation. Just so anyone from Bolton who checks this thread knows: those were NOT the regular announcers we have in Toronto. Ours aren't great - who's are? - but you don't have to pity us as much as you likely do if you watched through TFC's website.
Agreed on Ent. I thought he was one of the best players on the pitch in the second half. After watching TFC struggle out wide for 4 years now, I'm thinking this is the kind of player we need.
They were the guys Rogers got to do the game. It was broadcast on the local Rogers channel (Channel 10) in Toronto. And yes, I thought they sucked as well.
