Plenty of "lesser" African and Asian nations have regional tournaments they play in. CONCACAF nations do too.
It's a shame we sent our B team last time to Copa America. I think we should be a regular in this tournament along with mexico. The next Copa America has Japan as an invitee instead of US. I wonder if us sending our B team last time was a factor in that. Having US in Copa America as a regular fixture can only help the tournament appeal to a larger audience here in the US. would love to see espn broadcast copa america. They've done a great job with euro 2008 and this world cup. with a great broadcasting partner this cup could become a popular tournament in the U.S
The shame was that the tournament was scheduled right after the Gold Cup, and you can't ask players to play in two tournaments in the same summer. If the Gold Cup was in June of the 2nd year after the WC, and the Copa America in June of the 1st year after the WC, then that could work. Of course, should we win the Gold Cup and qualify for the Confederations Cup, that would mean our top players would never get a summer off.
I like to watch other continents cups and I am not happy with current NAGC format. As far as I am concerned, it should be 16 teams competition, with being held every 4 years. USA, Mexico and Canada should have byes to finals. 6 teams from Central America and 7 from Caribbeans should qualify through respective cups (UNCAF Cup and CFU Championship). And should be held in different countries, not only in USA. Mexico, Canada have facilities good enough for something like that, and other countries can host it together (GUA/SAL, HON/NIC, CRC/PAN). That can make Cup more interesting and more important, make it means something. And, of course, should be held on 2012, 2016 and so on, like UEFA Euro.
there is no real problem with having it every two years, if it was actually used to help the countries in the region. If the Gold cup was used to help develop infrastructure and build stadiums in central america and the caribbean, but that is not the case. It would be a big boost for the economies of othe developing nations to host the tournament and have people from other countries travel and spend money there. What I want to know is exactly where does the money from the Gold Cup go?
Hello.... I would like to say something about gold cup.... I know this thread is to discuss how often should the gold cup take place, what I would like to say is not related to that subject, however, I'm not allowed to start new threads so that's why I'm going to express my thoughts on this space..... 1- the gold cup is a very inferior tournament compared to copa america and euro cup. 2- your tournament is boring for a lot of reasons, yeah, obviously the most important reason of why your gold cup is so boring has to do with the fact that there are very few good teams in concacaf...... but you could solve this problem if you invited south american teams.... why you stopped inviting south american teams to your gold cup? did you get mad because u-23 colombia and u=23 brazil reached the final and were very close to win the gold cup in 2000 and 2003? are u scared of a south american team winning the gold cup? did you get mad because Colombia eliminated Mexico in 2005 gold cup???????/ are those the reasons of why concacaf stopped inviting south americans to the gold cup????????? so you guys want to participate in copa america but you don't want to invite south americans to your gold cup? 3- I know U.S. and Mexico are the only nations in concacaf with good stadiums, however, the fact that the gold cup ALWAYS takes place in the U.S. or Mexico, makes your gold cup boring and with not prestige. I hope my comment doesn't get removed, I'm just saying the truth, if I offended anybody, please forgive me.... please moderadors don't give me a red card. Thank you.
you do not have to beg for a red or yellow stay on soccer only comments and be polite pls understand that you are using harsh words in some one's else house, do not expect a lot love or TLC.... there is other forums for that type of intervention
dude, you are in the concacaf forum. if the Gold Cup is such a shitty tournament, why do you want South Americans teams to compete here? move along.
Efernandez, I appreciate your advice.. however, you said "respect is a simple rule in life" so I'm assuming that you think that I was disrespectful.... how was I disrespectful? let me ask you something Efernandez, do you remember colombian commentator from univision, Ricardo Mayorga? do you think he was disrespectful towards mexican or central american people? he was a great soccer analyst , however he was fired from univision because he never said all those lies that fernando fiores is constantly saying to all mexicans... Ricardo Mayorga was fired because he never said things such as "Mexico is a football superpower" "Mexico produces great football players" on the other hand, Fernando Fiore from republica deportiva is always saying a lot of dumb things such as "Mexico is going to win the world cup" obviously mexicans love to hear that kind of things, obviously all mexicans think that Fernando Fliore is a gentleman, but every non mexican knows Fernando Fliore is saying all those things because of $$$$$$$$... ....
Southamerican84.....you do not have to downplay some one to make a point! jorge ramos- el uruguayo is another example but, do not think that mayorga did get the ax for that reason he is now with cantor and futbol DE PRIMERA RADIO....an average color comentator. now back to futbol: is your point a vendetta against mexico achivements? or you are just working towards the claim that 'mexico is no powerhouse'? is hard to follow your thesis..... PLS remember the title of this thread and stay on topic. FORUM PROTOCOLO
its seems to me that the --- here hates mexico and is spitting fire so im spitting fire too here you go ---: MEXICO OWNS more than half if not all (with the exception of brazil and argentina) south americans MEXICO>colombia
I don't remember seeing you much in BSMX, but if you are going to hang out for a while, you should not insult Colombia... Sidspaceman wont like that.
Racial slurs aren't allowed anywhere on this site everyone, keep that in mind. Report trolling posts so we can deal with them.
This guy has a chip on his shoulder. He mentions Fiore and that other Colombian guy on television (or use to be) which indicates to me he follows television commentary (republica deportiva, Univision) that's heavily Mexican influenced. He doesn't like tuning in to see nothing but Mexico this and Mexico that on T.V., while Colombia gets no airplay, therefore he feels bitter towards the Mexican national team. That's this Colombian fellow in a nutshell, a bitter Mexican national team hating Colombian fan.
hay muchas excepciones no todos juzgan sin conocer el ultimo resultado hay gente que con cabeza fria sabe como analizar cualquier resultado.
Bumping this thread just to add my two cents on the topic: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/blog.php?b=11542
Bump. Let's reignite this discussion. I, for one, wouldn't mind having the GC every 4 years instead of 2... and played somewhere else besides USA, of course. Also, what if we invited 2 CONMEBOL clubs as well, to make the competition more interesting?
