Yep - I agree as well. The fans should have a part in naming the club AND the supporters group.

For real, some of these names that are being mentioned are just downright horrible. Phoenix Rising is okay, but too stupid in my opinion. The best name for a Phoenix Club is FUEGO!

Think about it, Phoenix Fuego. Or Phoenix Fuego FC. So sick! (Fuego means fire in spanish btw.) :)

Fuego works, since the nickname for the proposed ASL team back in the 80's (Fire) is taken.

Gawd no! Do we really need any reminders of how hot it is during the summer. If you really have your heart set on something desert related how about the Phoenix Venom (FC,SC, or BFD). I also like the Phoenix Rage (as in raging waters from a flash flood). We need a name that coveys strength, speed, power, or aggression.

Besides the "FIRE FIRE FIRE..." chant is annoying enough when done by Chicago fans. Something tells me it will not be any easier on the ears when it is pronounced "Fuego Fuego Fuego...".

Timbers fan here, To me I like Phoenix FC, on the shield have the Arizona State Flag and an Official nickname of the "Gold Stars", Obvious choice, Gold Star represents Excellence And you have it right on your flag and shield. The Star also looks like its "Rising" so another tie in.

Why do we insist on using FC in the states, why not WC for soccer club?

I heard Don Garber mention Phoenix in a radio interview because of their high WC tv ratings.... Wonder how close they are to having a team? Any clues from any potential investors?

Maybe so the the brand of the team/league goes beyond the states someday. You know since the entire world pretty much calls it football. Besides, football is permeating the states with "soccer" fans. I am hearing it used more and more. I am also hearing NFL football referred to as American Football. Though, i still call it "throwball" to piss off my work mates who are all about their "fantasy football" nonsense.

I have asked the forum mod to move all the Phoenix Monsoon posts to the new thread that i began, titled 'Phoenix Monsoon'.

Thought it would be better to split off the talk of a team from a general discussion of potential team names.

well i guess Arizona technically has "monsoons" meteorologically speaking (tho aren't the normally called desert monsoons?) i am not thinking most people associate "monsoon" and "american southwest" ... "monsoon" and "south east asia", yes ... "monsoon" and "phoenix" not so much.

but just looking at that site makes me suspect this whole thing is a joke.

plus i am on record liking the name Phoenix Rising FC ... unlike any other name in MLS plus the potential for great orange/red flame coloured kits and an awsome badge/logo/crest with a burning phoenix rising from an old school soccer ball (like the badge i designed).

Do they associate Salt Lake City with the King of Spain?

Monsoon is indigenous. I'm not a big fan of the name, either, but it's indigenous. We're in monsoon season right now.

If I had a nickel for every instance of "Phoenix Rising" that you see around here, I'd be making money in a very unusual way. Y'all may think it's cool or appropriate, but it's been beaten to death and seeing one more reference to it makes me gag.

I like the idea of calling the franchise Arizona b/c unlike some places like CA, FL or NY, one is never certain that some states will ever see more than one team.

Having said that, I like the T-Birds, short for Thunderbirds and my favorite team from Roller Derby. Other then than, I like the Red Devils, Rattlers, and Tricksters.
