I think everything that had to be said about tonight's game between Alianza and U de Chile has been said. The only thing I can say is that if U de Chile plays against Flamengo like they played tonight, they won't make it to semis. They already beat Flamengo at home and tied in Brazil, but second round is a whole new ballgame.
I got a question, has anyone EVER seen a goal be disallowed and then after a quick chat between ref and linesman be allowed? The opposite happens all the time, a goal is initially allowed but then disallowed after the linesman calls a foul or offside or something. I know the ref has the right to do that, I just don't remember one ever exercising that right. And doing this in the last minutes of a game in a series-deciding goal is what, I think, hurts the most.
Yes there have been cases of both situations you describe, can't remember a particular one from the top of my head right now, but yes there has been. However that kind of thing has always brought in controversy concerning if the referee ultimately did the right thing allowing or disallowing the goal.
Anyone who knows where I can find the attendances in Copa Libertadores-games? The official website is missing quite a few.
Yep: that's it. Had the ball not deflected off the Alianza player, we could be having another discussion but since in this case it did...
The ref in the Libertad-Once Caldas game was so shitty, first he gave Libertad a penalty that in no way was a penalty and then Once Caldas was offsides by miles on their goal and he didn't call it. So when are we gonna start replacing these worthless refs with robots?
The Brazilian sports press is saying that there was very controversial refereeing last night, and that the Peruvian team played better overall. I watched none of it and only read comments here and on the aforementioned Brazilian news sites. It's always a pity when bad refereeing prevents the better team from advancing.
imagine the players going to complain to the robots face ... ref robot picks one of them up by his throat
It certainly is a pity that Alianza is gone, they played some very attractive futbol, I gotta give them that. The way they dismantled Estudiantes was something never seen before. I think they can blame themselves as much as the ref though, Peruvian teams are known for giving up goals in the last moments of matches.
I know I'm late, but I just wanna say: AHUAHUAHAUHAUAHAUHAUHAUHAUAHUAHUAHUAUA CORINTHIANS + LIBERTADORES = EPIC FAIL Nunca vencerão a Copa, seus gambás nojentos. AHAHUAHUAHAUAHUAHAUAAA FORÇA, SÃO PAULO!!!!!!!!!! America will be ours again!!!!!
We're not playing very well. Cruzeiro is a better team now, that's for sure. But the 2nd leg is at home, that counts (Last year it didn't LOL ) I'm an atheist, but I believe in São Paulo! HONREM A CAMISA TRICOLOR!!!
The Corinthians curse continues strong. 50 years and no Libertadores glory, even if they invest in players, even when they're playing well. At least Chelsea is getting closer and closer to winning Champs League. O Timão doesn't seem to be getting closer to winning the Libertadores.
i knew I recognized him: solid player. He can do much better than play for Alianza. He's not on Martino's plans at the moment, right?
Saludos.
Well they reached the semifinals in 2000. They, and Palmeiras, were engaged in an epic 12-goal home-and-away confrontation. Corinthians won the first game 4-3 and Palmeiras won the second game 3-2. Corinthians had a very strong team then; it retained the core of the squad which won the 2000 FIFA Club World Cup months earlier, and they wanted revenge for their PK elimination in the 1999 quarterfinals at the hands of Palmeiras (who went on to win the Libertadores). Dida and Marcos, who later played important roles in the Brazilian national team, were the goalkeepers, and they walked with arms around each other's shoulders to the goal. No misses until Corinthians' 5th kick - Marcelinho, one of the biggest Corinthians personalities in the late 1990s, pivotal in that team's back-to-back 1998 and 1999 Brasileirão title wins. Marcos defended his kick. Luis Felipe Scolari celebrated like mad and the Corinthians fans went into mourning. I still remember that night - I was out with a chick in a trendy area of São Paulo and heard sudden screaming and fireworks. I asked a security guard nearby and he confirmed it: Corinthians was out. The date suddenly became even sweeter.
