If the ref went to consult the linesman to make his decision, then that means the ref didn't have a good view of the play. One of two, either the linesman took it back, or the ref decided to ignore him.. And also Suyuntu, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an offside determined as soon as the ball parts from a player's foot? That play should have been ended right there, and everything else after that should have been invalidated for that obstruction.
See what everyone fails to see, even those inept guys from Fox, is that when the shot comes out there are two chilean players offside ACTIVELY participating in the play, blocking the keepers view and right on the ball's path. Whatever happens afterwards does not matter. The rule is very clear about that.

You're correct, but it's not so simple. The players can be offside without making the play an offside call. They can be offside but not part of the play. Also, the moment another player of the same team touches the ball, that becomes the last touch, so far there is intention. Gonzalez touched the ball after Seymour. He went for it, it was intentional. When he touched the ball, he changed its trajectory and took the offside player going for the ball out of the play.
We cannot be sure. The ref most likely saw from his angle that the ball had bounced off a player from Alianza. So when he saw the lineman's flag he had to see what exactly the lineman saw. It's very likely that the lineman told him that two guys were off-side, but after hearing what the lineman had to say, the ref still determined that the goal was valid because he felt they were not involved in the play. But who knows? It's also possible that the ref said, "shit, if I disallow it now I don't get out of here alive", and took the cowardly way out. We'll never know. But if you ask me, I think the goal was a function of the ball bouncing off the defender, and the two guys who were offside were not a factor at all, they were too far from the ball to be a factor.
To me it's simple: 2 UdC players are CLEARLY offside, and in front of the keeper, one of them is obviously in a position where the keeper has to take him into account.
Here's a video with more angles of the shot: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDc7-czYajk"]YouTube- Roban clasificación a ALIANZA LIMA Copa Libertadores 2010[/ame] The players aren't blocking the goalie. What ultimately defeats the goalie is the deflection of the Alianza defender.
horrible refereeing. first alianza goal didn't go in. they're right in that the last goal had two UdeChile guys offside. at the same time, it went in off of an Alianza player and the U players didn't participate... one of those calls that could go either way...calling it a robo the way Costas has is an exageration
I don't know. When they show the angle from behind the play, facing the goal -which is the angle the ref had- it looks to me like the Chilean players didn't really block the goalie's view, they were more to his right side, and the shot came from his left side. But it looks like the ball bouncing off his teammate is what actually got the goalie off the play. But that's one play that will probably be argued for a long time.
