I am trying to find as much information about the Orlando Lions as possible. I've found lots of stats and news articles (well, lots considering they didn't exist very long) but nothing about the colors they used to wear. I found the logo, but it's in black and white. Anyone have any pics of the old uniforms or logo w/ color?
I seemed to remember from the first season in ASL back in '88 they had all blue tops and all white tops and I think white shorts. Somewhere in a box in the basement I may have some prorgrams from that first season. But they may have gotten thrown out in one of my moves. If someone has contact info for Mark Dillion. He could probably give you more info for their first season in ASL and the year they played before that.
I'd point you to his old website, but they finally shut it down since Mark is working with Steve Donner now.
I can confirm what ButlerBob sad about the Lions colors. The game jersey I have is all white, with the logo in navy blue and gold (I believe this was the road shirt). The home was all navy with white piping and numbers with gold in the logo.
Any chance you could take a pic? Front, back, and closeup of the logo? I'm working with a graphic designer to come up with a crest for AO - Orlando and I was hoping to find a little inspiration in the old uniforms. And could you email it to orlandoamericanoutlaws@gmail.com? Pretty please...?
This site has two examples of Orlando Lions jerseys - 1990 and 1993 http://soccerarchives.tripod.com/gallery/jersey/unitedsoccer/index.html
You are welcome. Yes - pretty simple kits -the 1993 was kind of like Fulham white top, black shorts: love the club, jerseys are meh. But not every club can be the Rowdies ... I prefer classic to the flash of many modern jerseys. Whatever you do - don't design the puke like kits of the MLS - Wiz, Clash and Burn. Stick with the tried and true. Hoops and stripes have been around for over 100 years and still look good.
You can't blame Mark Dillion for that logo in 1988. It was the new ownership group that came up with that. It was a friend of the marketing/sales director that came up with design.
The Lions had a pretty good history and are a great name for both the purists and contemporaries. IF the team ever comes it would be a good way to start. Anyone have any news about it? Seems to have gone quiet.
What are you asking for exactly? Did you see the press release earlier this month from Orlando Pro Soccer?
Maybe I missed it. Does the team have a name? a coach or GM? Where are they going to play? It seems like a lot of noise was made about the press conference and nothing has happened since
To my knowledge this is the only official press release so far from the club. They haven't announced anything, except that they plan on announcing things in the future. Hello, My name is John Clarke and the away jerseys were blue (see photo) and the home was white. We did not have the radio station adversement on the shirt in 1990. I am not sure how to put the picture in here as I do still have the away jersey and I think my dad still has the home jersey. John
The Lions in the early days wore navy shirts, white shorts and red socks. They wore all white when they beat Norwich City 4-2 in the Citrus Bowl circa 87. The 90's Lions were sponsored by Diadora and so they probably were wearing what was provided. I doubt that any club back then was wearing a custom look
Just trying to catch people who are frequenting various Orlando threads. http://www.orlandoodyssey.com
