Pretty much what I'd say -- although while I think Argentina are better than England...England's path to the semis at least is a bit easier.

With respect to Brazil, my greatest concern is a lack of depth behind Kaka. Obviously if Ronaldinho is called up, it's a different story, but if Dunga remains stubborn, I dunno. Then again, 50 days is a long time and Kaka could be healthy by then. Still would like some more depth.

Spain -- I think yesterday's Inter-Barcelona game is how a team will take down Spain. Just crowd the midfield and that might be how you slow them down. This is why I think a team like Switzerland will cause them problems..and potentially a Paraguay.

I think Netherlands definitely took a hit by potentially losing VDV for the WC. They still have some good depth at midfield but we'll see how they play. I think there are still some question marks in goal as well.

Germany -- need to find a keeper still (Adler?!?). And Low is an idiot if he doesnt start Kuranyi (let alone call him up). Play your in form strikers. Podolski and Gomez especially shouldn't be near the starting line-up.

Italy...yeah. Not too sure. Paraguay could even take their group.

I want to say Spain, for obvious reasons. If not them, then it would be great if a team who has yet to win it.

I think Either Spain or Netherlands will win the world cup, but on another note I am seriously starting to get dissapointed with the United States team.. I first saw alot of promise, but with numerous injuries, and lack of experience creaping onto the American bench I really feel that the USA are going to have a rough time of it.
I will be happy if we can just make it to the round of 16 at this point :)

Having watched the USA beat Spain and Inter beat Barcelona using the exact same tactics... I'm of the opinion that Spain won't win the world cup.....the silly fcuks (both teams) insist on trying to play down the middle against a packed in the middle defensive team.....watched the game yesterday and they simply will not cross the f'in ball from wide positions.....time and time again....they get it wide, play it back, sideways and who knows what and then try and play the ball past 8/9 defenders through the middle....

Judging by Spain's and Barca's overall record the past couple of years, their system works a lot better than anyone else's. Unfortunately for the rest of the world Spain has better strikers than Barcelona.

I'm not sure why Barca and Spain are being compared as most players are quite different, well apart from the Barca players in Spain. The only thing I can think of is that they both do so well because they keep a hold of the ball, passing around non stop and you get every single player that is not afraid of taking the ball and passing it around, which tires out other teams mentally and physically.

I just don't want Brasil to win it, because let's be honest, the last few games I've watched, they've actually bored me with their play. OK, i've not watched them all but still, every time I have, they have been crap.

Same with Portugal, a country which has a large number of great players but still cannot get a decent striker. We had Gomes, the two Pintos and also Pauletta. Now Portugal just seem to steal Brazillians when they get the chance. They rely on the midfield too much to score, again, rely on Ronaldo to score just like Real Madrid.

Then you have England, each time a competition comes up, it's like they will automatically win it. England have never stopped going on about 66, what's going to happen if they win another.

Now please, don't get offended by these comments, it's just something in my mind.

I think it's time the African teams show the world what they can do, but it's just a shame that it won't be the hosts.

Anyway, as I said before, a team that hasn't won it would be nice and different.

Barcelona are better than Spain easily.. They play the same type of game but there are subtle differences.. You won't see Capdevilla bombing it down the left most of the game for a start.

Thank you! I knew there was someone I missed out from the squad that I thought should get replaced.

He does try though... give him some credit lol

They are better, but not easily. Apart from Messi, Spain has a better midfield. Spain far better strikers, better goalkeeper and better bench. Defense is obviously quite similar on both teams with a slight edge to Barca at RB.

Obviously they are both great teams....but it seems that neither one has a "plan B" when the opponent packs it in down the middle.... and refuses to come out and play a wide open game...(see: The USA and Inter)...the total lack of desire/commitment/willingness/ability to cross the ball into the box from wide positions doomed Spain (in the confed. cup) and Barca in the CL....and, IMO will doom Spain in the world cup.

Well, Inter beat Barca in the first-leg when they played an open-game so its not the best example.

When you have a creative genius like Xavi, the best %age play is to give him the ball in the middle and let him figure something out. This plan works better than anyone else's given Barca and Spain's record the past 2 years.

Italy were able to effectively neutralize Spain's attack during that match during the UERO'S. I think that if they go out, it will be through PK's in s similar situation.

And with Iker Casillas, the smart money would still be on Spain in a PK against ... well, everyone.
The team is actually stronger now than they were at the Euros assuming one of Fabregas or Iniesta are fit to go.

Really you do all these quotes from me for thinking USA could win but you go ahead and say poland. Sorry for saying the wrong context but i meant last season not this year and cant someone watch mls and not be questioned on international standings? Yes they did get 2nd in the confed cup 2 to 3 loss to brazil. No that isnt the most imporatant but it is a good chance to see players from A lot of different countries and see how they stack up before the world cup. As for loyalty to my country i wasnt even born here i moved here a couple years ago. Add that as a comeback Bmike86.

you're first problem is taking things seriously. this is a message board dude, chillax. secondly, the poland thing was a joke, everyone else got it EXCEPT you. want to know why? poland didn't even make it to the world cup :p and from now on, please don't take the Confed Cup seriously, unless you tell me you took the Intertoto Cup seriously :p "add that as a comeback" haha

no idea who will win. But Germany won't. Good in attacking, bad in defending - as History proved.

IMO the Germans haven't had a really strong team for over 10 years but they always seem to find a way to make an impact....so I, for one, ain't writing them off at all.....and if they make the knock-out stages then you have to beat them in 90 or 120 minutes cos they ALWAYS win the pk shootouts.

it's a tough call because this is probably the weakest germany team i've seen in some time. no clear #1 goalie at this point and low was an idiot for not taking kuranyi. i mean, on paper their attack is very good -- but their "big 3" forwards are so out of form now its ridiculous - if they regain their form at the right time, then they should be dangerous. and in the past 2 world cups, their groups have been below average, i'd say. their group in this WC is arguably the most balanced out of the lot -- all 4 teams with realistic chances of advancing. so, im not so sure.

I agree with this and would love to see them finish 3rd in their group.

Funny, the most Germans thinking that our team is the strongest since the middle of 90s ;)

And our central defenders arn't worldclass at all but what you need is a good masterplan, also our defense midfield is pretty good and one of the best in the world with Ballack and Schweinsteiger. It will be very hard to catch possession against the German team, maybe not for Spain I guesss :p

Our offensive midfield is unfortunately unproven at this tourneys but unbelievable dangerous - Özil, Marin, Kroos, Jansen. These will be a threat to every team, don't really mind who's our target man. Kießling, Klose, Poldi or Gomez. They have all what it needs, now they have to step up. At least we will see in June.
